Title: Smoking after rebuild advice
Post by: greg_whit_se7en on June 02, 2004, 01:05:17 PM
Hi all,

How long does it usually take till the exhaust stops blowing out smoke after a rebuild?

Had it idling at 1000rpm for about 4mins & was blowing out blue-ish smoke, now the smoke has started to look white, so I turned it off as I thought I\'d check with you lot first.

Its just the oil I used for assembly and will burn off right?

Greg

The blue smoke will be all the oil excess oil burning off from the rebuild and then the white smoke should simply be condensation, this may last quite a while (10-20mins). Whenever I had just rebuilt a GTT engine it used to do this, typically a nice little blast through some country lanes sorted it out:D ;)

But if you are still unsure then check you oil and water for cross contamination and any obvious signs of loss of fluids.

Hope this helps, Paul:)

Thanks, I\'ll leave it running for a few mins. Hope the neighbours dont mind the clouds of smoke headed straight into their garden :-)
