Title: I\'m Back, And I\'m Better Than Ever!!!
Post by: Skifledanabit on December 05, 2010, 11:31:31 PM
So, old face, but new car, I sold my EGi in my sig back in march to finance the repairs on my Civic that I had before, needless to say, I ended up hating that Civic, because although my ol\' EGi was rusty and leaky and so on and so forth, I loved her, but NOW...

picked her up today from Manchester of all places, drives like a dream, but the buddyclub seat is waaaay too small for my huge a*se, so I currently feel as though it has reformed into the shape of the seat.

Speaking of which, anyone have a buddyclub that\'s too big for them, maybe do a swap...

but anyways, I\'m SO happy to be back behind the wheel of an FC again, brings a smile to my face every time i think about it!

I prefer the solid bucket to drive with tbh, feels nicer, more secure. would just be better if I could swap (yeah I know it will be a long shot, but!) plus it means I dont have to move my driving position for rear passengers (yes it is possible, last christmas, 4 people inc myself + christmas shopping!!!).

I asked James to put the TII bonnet on, I prefer the look of them over the EGi ones, and I\'m going to get a quote for a bonnet respray later today, although... I\'m tempted with a two tone, black bottom, silver top along the kink that runs down the side... AND I have my fender flares still!!! :D

Nice - new you wouldn\'t stay away long ;)

I know what you mean about those \'racing seats\' - I managed to get into Mitch\'s seat, but pretty much had to be extracted - portly I am - but by no means do I have a super wide ar$e - just these seats are made for skinny peeps.

Get some nice comfortable leather ones in there - they hold you pretty well and are made for comfort. :Thumbs-up

I don\'t think Japanese race seats will cater for the fuller figured gent.  I find American ones much more accommodating. :-)

I\'m not THAT fat, lol... Its just that bucket has grown on me, not the size, just the style and design, and I\'ve learnt how to extract myself too lol.

May have a look and see how much they are... see if anyone is selling a larger one elsewhere.

Nice to see you back. I know what you mean about missing the FC . I can\'t think of another car that would make me as happy for the same money.

Im here mate. No FC though :(

Nice car that. Does it still sound absolutely ridiculous?

Also did james fix the problem with one of the front shock bolts? Was coming loose every now and then, tbh if its still a problem im sure he would have let you know about it!

Taking this to the next rotorstock i hope?

Yeah, it\'s pretty solid, the drivers side sills have been pushed right up but no biggy... All of the major rust has been repaired, just patches here and there, but yeah, uber solid!

Where is it? Did you forget where you parked it again!? Lol

It\'s got a single exit powerflow exhaust now but still sounds good, haven\'t redlined it yet but it\'s not too loud and not too quiet.

He didn\'t say anything about the bolt, any idea which one it is? I\'ll keep an eye on it.

Most definitely going rotorstock, if I have the funds free that is lol

haha, Nah i traded it for a CA18 powered capri. The suspension was doing my nut tbh.

Havn\'t redlined it? get out!!!

Um yea. It was one of 4 bolts on the front shocks which go through the hub. Theres 2 per shock. This was a long time ago mind

Good to have you back man, weld that diff up asap!

I think it already is! I\'m getting juddering when turning at slow speeds, especially when reversing at slow speeds

But I\'ll check that suspension out just to check

Should be pretty obvious mate! its not something you can really miss!

Cool, i have a feeling it was the passenger side but theres just as much chance it being the driver side

Post by: Skifledanabit on December 08, 2010, 01:58:58 AM
well... I\'ve never had a welded diff before, how else can I tell apart from the juddering and bumping at low turning speeds?
Title: I\'m Back, And I\'m Better Than Ever!!!
Post by: dthebuk on December 08, 2010, 08:23:04 AM
You should be able to hear the tyres skidding when your turn at low speed. It should need a lot more throttle when turning at low speed as the diff acts like a brake.

If its just a slight judder its likely to be something else. Chances are, if you\'ve got a welder in there, you\'ll know about it

er well its a CA18 running standard boost so i guess aroun 180ish.

Was gunna go for an s14 turbo and about a bar of boost which would put it at 28ish but ive decided to sell.

Hows the FC? Faster than your old one?

Yep he\'s right, if you have a welded diff you will know about it,

The tyres will scrub on the smallest of steering lock, I remember many years ago not being able to afford a slipper diff and welding a few up, hell you can\'t even push the thing along unless the wheels are dead straight,

As said if you have a welded diff you will know about it

Ok, its taken time, but, first update, I decided to have a little bit of a play around. The bonnet scoop had a crack in it which was annoying me, I had some black satin paint in a rattlecan going to waste, so i had a bit of a dickabout, sanding down, repairing the crack, 4 layers of black satin and 3 layers of satin laquer later...

hi mate, yeah suspension is all good, resolved the bolt issue, the juddering i think comes from the wheels and spacer combo, pretty sure i never had it before putting them on. It only juddered on full lock so i never bothered me, (might be tracking perhaps)

Is it still treating you right? i still miss it but the 2-350 miles i do a week wouldn\'t let me keep it. Plus with the FD on the drive as well it would be rude to keep it.

Get using it properly redline and side ways, what its made to do!!!!

lol, I have been redlining her, not a lot, but a few times, I have noticed she has a tendancy to kick out the back end going from 2nd to 3rd at redline, which is disconcerting but manageable.

I have a feeling that the juddering is the tyres scrubbing on the arches because they are wider than normal and the spacers push the outside of the tyres out just that little bit more to create contact., again, no big deal.

I\'ve had no problems really, had a bit of a moment when the temp got a bit hight but i just stuck some more coolant in, although, it did look a bit murky n there so may have to change it and see if theres any problems with the coolant system.

apart from that, its all good, will be cutting out the collapsed jacking points and welding new metal in there soon, just to make it look better, maybe stripping the entire under and treating any suspect areas before they get a chance to spread.

all in all, well worth the cash!

Right... Update time... Its been a while. That and i cant sleep so its time to get as much off my mind as possible.

The car has been sorned for the time being, rust being the main culprit meaning it wont pass the MOT. Sooo... Time for a full restoration. What has been giving me trouble is which way round to do it.

I think I\'ll start off by stripping down all the interior and storing it, clean it all up inside (sound deadening etc) and just turning it into an empty shell. Then, il take the front bumper etc off to enable the easier removal of the engine and gearbox, take off all the drivetrain and suspension components, clean them up and give them a lick of nice fresh paint.

Then, when all i have is a nice empty shell, i can send that off for the rust repairs, i will also have a good idea of just what panels are too far gone to repair and will just replace outright.

When the shell and everything non-engine related is looking pretty and clean and repaired, the engine and (recon) gearbox will slide back in, get taken down to see Carl Hayward and get a lovely rebuild and some experimental bits.
At this point, i hope to have the interior fully stripped, a half cage with harness bar, minimalist dashboard (aluminium i suppose), welded all the interior seams, all the engine bay, blanked the sunroof, got my wide arches on and somehow made my MS747s fill the gap, renew all the pipes, tidy the wires up, and various other things that slip my mind...

I suppose i wont really find out just how much needs doing until i do it... I do like Grinders allen key bolt idea for a lot of it though.

Onwards...!!!

Good plans but have you looked in to reshelling the car to save all the rust repairs, might save time and money
