Title: Would this work? Dellorto 48 on ebay
Post by: MrHanky on December 02, 2010, 01:06:53 PM
Hi,

Looking into carbs for my EGI and came across this

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Dellorto-DHLA-48-carburettor-Inlet-K-N-race-rally-mini-/220700840399?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3362cb91cf

Assuming I picked up a suitable manifold from MRP, would this work?

Thanks

Mark

many moon ago, got the carb oot of sunbream rally car, few jetting changed and a wee modfiy to the alt pump with a home made gasket oot of cornflake\'s hardpaper.
removed the 6p valves from the lower maniford and it\'s reqiured a upper manifold frae Racing Beat.
the power\'s  approx 180-200hp with straight through exhaust.
good power on the cheap..

all the EGi engines are the same aren\'t they? Could be a good cheap buy, go for it, I may go for something like that soon... anyone want to do a write up on how they did it and what exactly is needed?

Im hoping this won\'t be too hard to install setup, but hopefully will get a bit of help from my mechanic friend.  Just working out how much I can afford to bid on this, and think I will go for it :)

Now bidding on this :)

Just on the RB site looking at the upper manifold and was just wondering why the difference between the Dellorto and Weber upper manifolds?

Dellorto

Both are for the 13b 6 port.  Is the Dellorto picture a different Manifold?

no, both are not for 6p
upper manifold for the delly and lower manifold for weber IDA(4p)

you can use weber DCOE for upper manifold and it\'s just the same as delly\'s PCD

keep your 6p lower manifold, just buy upper only.
if you got lots of money, buy both manifold........
want a 4p, get one oot of turboII\'s end plates and needing both manifolds for delly or  lower manifold for weber 48 IDA.
Understand?;)

Thanks for your help Mr Rotorheid :)

The car I will use this on currently has a custom manifold and exhaust.  Will this need to be customised further to fit this?  I do also have the stock EGI manifold on my other EGI which is slowly being taken apart, so could use that if needs be.

Assuming I could use the Dellorto with my custom one, then I just go for this?  I hope I am understanding this correctly.

Thanks again

cannot see why not to do further custom work to fit.
use steel exhaust pipe and get it bent to 90 degree, measured the length, cut it and weld on to the  steel flanges.
remember, beware of the bonnet clearance.

is the carb your bidding on downdraught of sidedraught as that may dictate which style of manifold you end up going for

I believe its a side draft.  I think the RB one for the dellorto will be fine with this.

Thanks

sidedraft man, "SIDEDRIFT"......................LoL

FYI, good for turbo,it\'s the same make of carb that  lotus used for it sprint turbo model..just a wee modify to the carb to sealed the pressure from the turbo.

You\'d be better off trying the classic car mags - although these (and DCOEs) will always be "in demand".  A new (if you can find one!) Dell\'Orto DHLA48 is about £495 (inc vat).  The comparable Weber DCOE45 is about £320.  Both plus extra cost of linkages of course :(

Thanks for the suggestion.  Would a Weber 45 DCOE be suitable for a rotary? as i thought I would need at least a 48?

Just spotted this and was wondering if anyone knew what a DCO is?

well Bad luck,, something will come along if you\'re still interesting having a Delly.
50\'s bit too big for a 6p, 45\'s okay for 12A engine but bit small for 6p, might be good for a roadgoing car and not on the funday..

keep looking...

Okey dokey.  Thanks for your help.
Out of interest would you go for the Dellorto 48 or the Weber 48 IDA (I dont think they do a 48 DCOE, but correct me if im wrong).

for the road car, go for delly and.......... the funday as you know... Weber 48IDA.
the reason that the delly got a choke and good for starting in the cold morning in the winter.
had been starting the PP motor first time every start with 51 IDA, its don\'t have a choke and only way\'s pumping the carb three times before starting.

canna remember aboot 48 DCOE, just 50mm+55mm me think...

With regards to the 50, is it possible to restict it down to make it suitable for a near stock 6pt, but then use de-restrict should I eventually get a Bridge port?

Hmmm, might consider the 48 IDA then.  Car is for track days and the ossasional blast at the weekend.  Gets SORN\'d over the winter.
Is either one particularly easier to setup than the other?
Sorry for all of the questions.

Nae problem,
6port/turboII engine\'s the way of better engineering engine than all rotary engines that mazda ever made but...
bridge a 6p, better to steer away frae it as they\'re already too high timing.
better go for a TII 4p end plate and bridged it and 48IDA suit to fellow.
remember the timing\'s different between low/mid revrange, open early/standard close= strong pull, open early/late close= weak pull.
want to high rev all days long, go for early/late timing and no pull(  high rev pull frae 5,500 to 9,500+, full clearance bearings /lighter rotors, clearance at both side of upper end of rotors, ligher flywheel, alloy pulleys, 11.5NGK, modify oil system etcccc....
nothing\'s impossible, can restricted the choke on 50\'s .eg 39mm choke
it\'s better go for IDA because it\'s IDA.....;)cool..like cheese and wine with the rotary engine.
it\'s easy to set up on IDA if you know how, if not there\'s many roller doon in Englandshire will do it for you.unlike mine\'s bar none in Scotland and only tell them how to do it!!!!LoL.

your choice, Mark;)

If I was able to get hold of some money, would you be interested in px for an EGI worth around £750?

Nah he means "DCOE".  No Weber 48 DCOE and yes I agree a single 45DCOE is probably too little for a 13B.  (Used to run twin 45DCOEs on an ickle 150bhp Escrot MkI ;) ).  No Weber 48DCOE but yes you can rejet a 50 down a bit.  Rough rule of thumb for DCOE type is 45 Dellorto = 40 Weber and 48 Dellorto = 45 Weber.  Lots of heated debates down the pub over that one but empirical evidence proves it!

The IDA sounds like a better bet.  Or twin Weber 40DCOEs.  :)

James.

Actually I take that back - there is a DCO/SP which comes as 48/50/55 mm. Don\'t  know how that differs from a DCOE though...

Sorry - totally bad form to reply to my own posts but...

To answer my own question: a DCO is like the IDA in that it doesn\'t have a choke (whereas the DCOE does have a choke)

Unfortunately its not looking good.  Even if I could get the money, Im not sure if I could afford to run it judging by the MPG when flat out :)
Also, I have no trailer, so always have to consider actually driving to the track as well.  Real shame as it does look like a bargain.

Lol, no problem.  I am still considering the 48IDA and the Dellorto 48.  Will just keep a look out for either of them.

What!"! of coarse, it\'s a bargain...£3000ono( i\'m at loss) and  three times 2010 A8 class maqure car  winning National champion car....... and don\'t do drift/stock/banger/rally stuff and just on the smooth black stuff only like Doune, forrestburn, Fintray hillclimb and wanting to go down to Shelsley Walsh.( if the car\'s not sold next year)
here\'s my  National Champion friend les drived a 2.5 V6 Rover 350HP Dax,attacked the SW\'s hill.....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HTOM_kjudCQ
enjoy it and feel the hill....

good luck MrHanky and don\'t give finding a IDA( try to get a Italy made carb, not Spain) or Delly carb.
