Title: Panorama last night (world cup bid)
Post by: Dan Norton on November 30, 2010, 01:15:49 PM
Did anyone see this last night?

Is it just me who thinks after airing this,we have absolutely zero chance of winning the world cup bid now??

I am sick and tired of our press sometimes......to publically expose top fifa "officials", and criticise Sepe Blatter, is just complete madness.....two days before the winners announced! :2Mad

It hasnt helped with them making sure the bid director stood down, and then probed into the the two african fellas for accepting cash for votes.

Yes we all knew before hand that FIFA is more than likely corrupt....a bit like ANY organisation, i scratch your back you scratch mine.

We know its wrong, but why didnt they wait to air this programme until after the announcement! :2Confused

makes you wonder if the media have anything but their own interests at heart?

Like before the world cup they tried to stitch up Sven, i mean whatever chance we had of winning the cup - gone :Hammer

Havent you answered your own question?

If Fifa are corrupt it wont matter as it will have been decided with brown envelopes stuffed full of cash and sure the venue was decided a long time ago, i dont think a Panorama programme will have any outcome!

Agreed though, press are scum, but they are only feeding the general populous\'s craving for scandal and sleeze!

FIFA are still taking bribes then, there\'s no way they looked at Russia and went "You know what, England might have all the infrastructure, a slew of world class stadiums, an enormous football fanbase and all the grounds are within 500 miles of each other but we\'ll go to Russia because it\'s better."

Someone took the mother of all bungs from some Russian Oligarch!

I think that just goes to show its all about money!

I think i heard on the radio today, its expected to cost 2 billion plus for Russia to build for the competition, double what anyone else would have to invest!

And as for Qatar, a country that hardly plays football or has any footballing history....I shall say no more!

Can you believe we got 2 out of 22 votes.....and 1 of those was from our own uk fifa official.

Our bid was behind the Holland /Belgium bid!

I think its clear somethin untoward has happened......but i stil stand by my comments above, i dont think our press helped us at all.

This is not exactly breaking news is it.....
I can\'t see why the shock and suprise

Sport over the last 10 /15 years has become purely \'a business\', a business needs money... deeper pockets will always win.
Look at F1... it\'s about who contributes the biggest \'donation\' gets the track, same thing with this....
It\'s a known fact FIFA has always been corupt to the core...
It\'s nothing to do with Beckham, the FA, the BBC,  FIFA made their decission months ago when Russia joined in and their cheques were cashed.  England never had a chance!

I for one (a hardcore to the bone Football lover) am happy it won\'t be hosted here so now Cameron can get his @rse back here and spend that almost wasted money on salting and fixing our forking roads!!! :2Mad

Im just watching the press grilling Anson on why he thinks we didnt get the vote! I actually feel quite sorry for him, i think Fifa needs to be grilled on their decision, not him!

I dont think they could justify it to fair and they should be accountable and each voter should give their reasons!

Figures for Russia to host this event have now risen to 6 billion!

Russia can afford to host the world cup, their economy at present is larger than UK\'s & by 2020 is forecast to be more powerful than Germany.

The sheer size of the country is bound to cause problems.

Dissapointing result for England, though had a feeling the Russians would get it,i would\'nt be surprised if they bribed officials.

Time to get over it & for England to start playing football which is a delight to watch rather than an embarassment.

i have heard that FIFA  are looking for nations where they can develop the game more and are choosing nations that have not had the world cup before.

Which begs the question why not state that before allowing the likes of England and Spain to bid for it ?????? :2Mad very poor from Blatter as usual.

The fact that England could host the world cup next week goes against our bid as we do not need to promote football here, same as Spain.

Shoddy and badly presented by FIFA

On the one possible plus side, Brazil 2014 are way behind on everything and if they fail to meet the time frame then they would not be able to host the World Cup. The only country ready to host without needing to build loads of stadiums ???????

ENGLAND :King

I heard this too, re promoting football, but it does beg the question, why we spent 2.5 million to bid for it if this was Fifa\'s primary objective!

It seems a shame sports such as football, F1 etc are governed by complete arses!

lol...
Again you guys are living with your heads in the sand...

It is nothing about promoting this and that anywhere...
£££££££££££££ talks...  Sport is now a business and it\'s nothing more than lining pockets!

Look at South Africa, corupt to the core... passed big money got the WC, FIFA and all the media spouting off about how it will help develop the Country and the benifits blah blah blah...
The WC is now gone, SA has returned to the slum .... hole it was before, and actually it\'s now worse off as the Billions they pumped into the event and gave FIFA have emptied their coffers, the Stadiums are empty and degrading, and there are no funds to maintain....
Do you believe Russia in 10 years will become the mecca of Football after it holds the WC.... :p:p

I\'ll throw this at you, \'Why do you think FIFA will never approve Video tech and modern methods to improve the game?\'  ;)

I dont see anyone actually saying "promoting the sport" is the real reason, most agree with you, the almighty $ talks, we are just commenting on the given reasons.

Interesting piece on sky sports news this morning by the head of sports writer from the Times or Telegraph i think, saying he his absolutely gob smacked that England actually proceeded with their bid knowing how corrupt Fifa and its members are, particularly the ones that promised their vote to the UK, his comments were the bid team "prostituted" themselves to Fifa!

So in light of the corruptness behind Fifa and its members and Andy Anson says is completely flawed and un fair voting system, where now and i do not mean any possible future bid attempts but the future of Fifa? Is a change at hand?

Unfortunatley it\'s not just Sport it\'s business in general, it starts from the Government, the Banks, and all the big businesses... it\'s how the World runs..

It even happens with my small business, to get certain contracts/jobs with the big boys, they would expect a bit of a thank you, if you know what I mean!

Someone I knew was a rep for a well known british Battery manufacturer, he was called to the head office and was asked if he would go to a certain middle eastern country to find out why they only bought batteries from the continent but never from britain, he soon discovered it was because there were no kickbacks for the importers as there were from our European competetors.

On reporting back to his office, they said to him " don\'t they realise our batteries are far better than theirs", to which he replied " they don\'t give a fcuk  how good they are,, if there\'s  no backhander , no business".
Batteries, football, it\'s all the same in this world, if you want, you have to pay, how much was a few brown envelopes worth to secure a deal worth nearly £2 billion in trade, sending 3 twerps out there with no cash was never any good , it\'s the spondulicks what counts.

 :Thumbs-up
