Title: 1st gen calender
Post by: captainbizzaro on November 29, 2010, 09:59:36 PM
Evening all,

Been floating around on rx7club.com and found a thread regarding 1st gen calenders 2011 so thought I\'d see if there was any interest on our side of the pond to get a load sent over together and then get a price based on the quantity in question. I believe the gentleman has done these to a high standard for the past few years and there seems to be strong interest

So anyone who\'d like to express they\'re interest in these please add yourself to the list. Please note you are not signing yourself up at this point just want to get some numbers together. I\'ll start.

Tim

or how about we  submit photos of our  cars to a site like Vistaprint, Kodak gallery or something similar and do our own? There must be 12 of us on here who could submit  nice photos of their cars to make a collective calendar

That snapfish site run by HP is quick-I had the wife\'s book in 4 days from them having all the photos. It\'s quick because you do all the hard work with picture placement and designs etc, they just print what ever you come up with.

Okay, so the deadline to be determined by us so we need to gather all the appropriate photos together and collate them into a presentable format to preview proposed layout - perhaps subscribers might have an option for preferred \'month\' for their chosen photo or perhaps the optimum month would be judged by the content of the photo?
Photos to be submitted no later than ...... date?
Can we have a volunteer to organise this please? - me, I wouldn\'t know where to start, who to contact etc (never done this type of thing before).

I don\'t mind tranferring the pictures onto whatever site we use etc-what I\'ll do is set up a dedicated photobucket account then PM/email everyone who is involved the password so that we can get decent resolution pics for it. Unless anyones got a better idea?

On second thoughts-just email them to my email address

captainbizzaro at aol dot com

And I\'ll just use my personal photobucket to transfer them to the site that\'ll be easier. Make sure all photos are in landscape and are fairly decent resolution. Once it\'s done I\'ll send you all a link to look at the proof to ensure you\'re all happy with it.

If everyone could do it asap that\'d be great-there\'s some people not popped up yet (Stu, Steve!) so come on!!

i\'ve sent a Pic Tim. We\'ll have to talk about how we pay \'cos I\'ll want perhaps 5 copies of the complete calendar, 4 at least.

Pic was taken in August time so around then would be great. Thanks for taking it on Tim.

I\'ll happily buy a calendar, but I can\'t see a merit in having Rexanne featured as no-one wants a calendar featuring a car in bits :P

Steve-Ross must have a picture of Rexanne before you took her apart-failing that she has to go on the calender somewhere-even on axle stands.

If we are struggling for an S2, I will offer the car I sent to NZ a few months ago - no particular month is needed.

Naturally this would only be a space filler, I don\'t want to be greedy :) but it is a nice example - here is a refresher:

I\'ve got one pretty much the same but with snow all over the place? Was thinking I might try to take a long exposure photo this evening, whilst grinding/welding which would make for pretty light trails and be a good winter restoration photo with the snow etc?

@ Steve I think the shot of Rexanne in Resto is more to the point - owners are so dedicated they will dig up mum\'s garden, get a gazebo up, work on it in sub zero......and that missing headlight is great.

Also your idea about another shot with spark trails in the snow hits the spot for me Steve.

Just my opinion...ignore me.

Here is a rough idea of what I\'ve been doing-a couple of things to note....

-There is purposely no January as I\'m waiting for the right pick from Keith

-This isn\'t final proof as a couple of pics missing so keep em coming

-Picture of Tim\'s Purple Peril needs to be okayed to use on final product (plus that one is low res)

-Picture of Stu\'s car is for reference so I know that month is sorted-photoshopped version of that picture to replace it.

Apologies for the "DEMO" encryption-this is because a mac screenshot is in .tiff format and I used a demo software to convert them to jpeg. For the final proof I shall endeavor to find a bit of software that doesn\'t do this, it also only converted in 72dpi so it won\'t be grainy either.

Looks good to me Tim :) I like the mix of montages and large photos, got a nice balance.

Caption wise I, like Ian, don\'t think it needs it.

Only comment/crit I can think of is the crop of Jaz in the 4th page down looks just slightly odd to me? To me it could do with being a fraction wider, so you don\'t just miss the corner off the bumper, or a bit tighter, so it looks a more deliberate crop?

But its a nice photo of Jaz, and I\'m being mega picky there. I\'m also aware how much compromise of concept is needed with these things sometimes to make it work!

Hi Tim - firstly well done mate, you took on a difficult task and finished with a very good product.  It must have been a daunting project in itself without the added pressure to try and keep everybody happy and not being seen to be bias with individuals.

Me - I\'m unhappy with the cropping off to the front bumper on JAZ and hope this is something which can be rectified for the final draft and proof reading.

I thought there might have been an evening/night shot of a car with headlamps on - after all they are driven at night too.

If I were to criticise, it would be with the large photos - if they fill the space that\'s fine (see Daves and your own pics for instance) but where the rex is a lesser size, I think it is wasted space - can they not be zoomed in?
Oh and Keiths photo is a stonker - surely there will be a place for it somewhere?
Almost forgot - no captions needed, the cars speak for themselves and their proud owners!

All credit to you and a pat on the back.
Cliff

Dave, on this thread did crop my pic,he managed to get rid of the manhole cover in front,is it not possible to use that pic,if it\'s too much hassle or won\'t fit,don\'t worry about it.

Calender looks like a pro job.

Silvers are both Nick Nock cars Stu. The back one is \'Flash\', the front one is \'Gus\'.

No, fraid \'Flash\' is presumed a casualty....He was B883 SEH ..Gone off the DVLA database by 2009. Never mind, he made the supreme sacrifice so that \'Gus\' might come to live with us.

Hope there\'s time left for the Revised Pic.  Gone round the corner first thing this morning to check on youngest Daughter\'s Rabbit when I should have been rabbiting on here.

Hi Ian - thanks for the link to the \'other\' 2011 Calendar.
I have looked at their latest edition and am trying to be as independant as possible. Yes, the american version is very professional (as would be expected from a group whom have previously printed 2 other calendars) and the pictures are sharp and clean lined yet, I feel there is something missing from them - not to sure what it is.
Perhaps it is that I too am biased or maybe there is no seasonal adjustment but either way I feel we have the better issue - so I second you on this point.

They haven\'t got that raw edge quality that we\'ve got....real life feel to our calendar. Helped enormously by people\'s late sucess in getting cracking reality shots in the snow and ice. Best of it is, that\'s how we are.

Nah - you wouldn\'t have enjoyed it Stu.  Lots of skimpy dressed models with tanned flesh glistening with body oil, hot sun beating down on your brow, tongue dragging across the sand with camera shutter clattering away at 100mph.
No you\'re better off with dirty finger nails, the rain bouncing back off the floor/earth soaking you legs, the wind blowing grit in your eyes and wearing wet weather gear.
I know which one i would have chosen ...... :rollin:rollin

If it\'s any consolation Stu - I probably would have made the exact same decision but at least we can still dream. Well actually at my age I\'m begining to forget what my dreams are about too ..... ho hum.

And \'dash\'....  In the \'70\'s I worked for a company who had a base there. It used to be necessary to pay a bribe even to get on a plane at the airport.

One guy\'s immortal words were....\'it wasn\'t the flies on the meat in the butcher\'s window that put me off, it was the cement bag the meat was on\'.

Yummmm.....No thanks.

Rei99 using the euro is gonna do well, since the £ plummeted against euro in recent years.
In 2007 1.45 euro to pound.
Now 1.19 euro to pound.

The calendar is nothing short of awesome, the layout is great, the quality is excellent, and if I may say so myself, what a great line up of cars that grace the pages :)

Thanks to all of you that took part, for taking and sending pics, and again, big big thanks to Tim - I really appreciate your hard work fella :)

We are still snowed in and have not had a postal delivery since last week, so in desperation (calendar needed as a surprise Christmas present for she who must be obeyed....) my sons and I fought our way down the drive and up the hill today and went hunting for our postman (in no. 1 son\'s Ford Focus with snow tyres....). Our luck was good and we soon found him and his van - no cat - delivering (on a ploughed and gritted road...) about a mile away. A quick chat and we came away with about 20 christmas cards, a play.com DVD present for a nephew, some contact lense for no. 1 son, a couple of bills and 2 calendars! Easy Peasy!

Thanks for everything Tim. Much appreciated.

Hi Lars, I\'ll see what I can do about getting a couple sent over too you. Like Stu said-our batch was made using a 50% off code but as we have had a fair few they might do the same for a few more. To give you an idea, the two that are going to Italy will cost £7.00 to post plus the cost of each calender but I will investigate getting more made first and go from there.

Merry Christmas all, glad you like them.:Santa

Hi Davide, not sure how they both got soiled so apologies for that-price of calendar including delivery to English address is in an early post on this thread I can\'t remember off hand, something like £8.37.
