Bargin or money pit, I\'ll let you decide.

I saw this today-wish I\'d looked under the bonnet i had no idea!
bargain just for the engine and ecu and reshell it
as above!
i should get a refund on my \'rebuild\' buy this and get tim to transplant it into my fc :p
everybody\'s a winner :)
*nods* Obviously you\'re buying it only for the engine - the bodyshell/exhaust/etc is scrap.
I\'d be more concerned to know the procedure they followed to re-commission the engine after it having sat for that long.
A compression test is compulsory I think - it\'s way easier to not hear a blown apex seal on a 20B (i.e. if one rotor is duff it will still run quite happily on the other 2!), and considering it sat for so long a blown seal / rusty housing is quite likely.
Only buy it if you\'re going to strip it to check for condition before serious use.
p.s. and don\'t forget the number plate is only transferable when the car has an MOT which in the case of this one is going to be never - so the number plate is worthless!
Another of Tim\'s "top barn projects"! You know the work will have been done to a high standard, but there is lots to do still! I\'d say the shell is probably savable if u wanted to.
????? No intercooler??????
Quote from: marky;728121????? No intercooler??????
good idea for hillclimb/sprint, timed run last aboot 1-2mins and no lags.
will be happy with that and having a lighter car withoot full metaljacket armourwear
I think I\'ll watch that.. I don\'t really have the money, buuuut... I do want that engine.. Just have to work out if it\'s worth putting on the credit card or not.. depends on how much it goes for I suppose ;)
It\'s gotta bidder-any of you guys?
i think Tim is clearing our his barn!
Quote from: antnicuk;728279i think Tim is clearing our his barn!
Yeah I get that impression lol
The same guy has been selling twin turbos for 30 quid the past few weeks.
wow what a conversion.... shame the car has seem better days!
If I had the time and money to resurect this beast I\'d leave it looking cosmetically how it is apart from a good stance and some sweet rims. I love rat sleepers.
I\'ve a feeling it\'ll be sold for the engine & the shell scrapped.
That was pretty much my plan if I buy it, although I\'ll strip it down so that it is literally only the bare shell that gets scrapped.. I\'d even keep the carpet :p
Well, if the body turned out to not be as bad as it appears then I\'d keep it (somewhere, somehow!) Don\'t like to throw out anything that might be/is good :D
Even if the engine is duff it\'s still worth a fair whack. All hard bits of the conversion have been done for you.if there\'s not too much structural work done for the conversion you could just reshell. Mr hanky I vote you do it!! Probably cheaper than going pp!
I\'ve been offered a 20B from a Cosmo rebuilt by a Japanese tuning company recently for 1250 quid. Keep trying to talk myself out of it!

posted earlier, but I would if I could...
do you think its just an early spring clean or a closing down sale?
I really hope its just the former, I\'d hate to see one of my favourite places to visit go out of business!
Been in contact with RX Motors as they are selling it. Seems they have offers for 2500 pounds and up and they are not selling it as such as they expect it to get higher on Ebay.
Given the condition of the car, no history on the engine (mileage, series etc) and such, i don\'t think it\'s worth the effort.
Just another 20B that will go for way too much money
Just for comparission I saw MPH customs are selling a rebuilt 20b for £3000-35000

Yeh, but that\'s a recently rebuilt engine. The eBay ad says this car\'s been stood for ten years, so god only knows what state it\'s in inside. Plus, would you trust an engine that\'s been run even briefly with that turbo charge cooling system  Which is to say, none at all

Turbo engines can run quite safely up to 10 psi without a intercooler, it does sap power when you above 8 or 9 psi without one due to heat versus pressure drop of installing an intercooler.
There were a number of turbo cars in the past running without coolers from factory in the past due to them only running low pressure eg 300zx z31 turbo from the 80s, only ran approx 8 psi still developed 225bhp
Yeah, doesn\'t make it a good idea though, does it?
Perhaps it was destined to have WI - Tim\'s purple beasty ran without intercooler and had water injection coming on around 4-5 psi from memory.
For drag runs / hill climb etc, that\'s ok, and you could always stick an ice tray on that straight pipe ;)
Quote from: Nik da Greek;729287Yeah, doesn\'t make it a good idea though, does it?
its a good idea if you are running low boost as you get quicker spool up as you dont have the pressure drop of the intercooler and the extra piping plus weight saving. Anything past 10 psi its a bad idea unless you are running WI or Meth as a fuel
imaged, the thousand of peoples watching the FC20B, attacking the Shelsley walsh hill like this... it\'s a pure heaven and proud of them, all of those hillclimb drivers.

Exactly. Unless it\'s been regularly turned over in that time then the walls lost their oily coating years ago and have been rusting quietly to themselves ever since. One best avoided.
Why didn\'t he post compression test figures in the ad? ;)
True true, but plates can be skimmed, new housings acquired, and so forth - as long as you know what you are buying, then fair play.
There have been cases of stored cars being started after long periods of rest...
Absolutely. But hence my original comment
QuoteOnly buy it if you\'re going to strip it to check for condition before serious use.
If you give this engine some welly (and who wouldn\'t ;) ) without stripping it first could be a very expensive mistake.

Lol, probably would if I could matey :)
Still looking to go bridge or pp in the future, but need to save pennies
Still cheap cheap , bidding has reached £1550 already
It\'s gunna go well beyond my budget by the looks of it, lol
Join the sweepstake in the 1st gen section-and win nothing! But just think how proud you\'ll feel.
As sais,.. I called RX Motors and they have offers (non Ebay) of more than 2500pounds and more. I don\'t think they\'ll be letting it go for less.
For those who are looking after a 20B, RX Motors also seems to sell 20B\'s long blocks, also from 2500 pounds and onwards. So contact them if you really want one.
Quote from: Speedworks;729665I don\'t think they\'ll be letting it go for less.
That might be what they are expecting but it\'s not really up to them - it\'s a "no reserve" auction.
Personally, if I really had an offer on the table of 2,500 I\'d take the money and run, and cancel the auction.
