right my chums, apon my mate getting a huge bargin of an rx7 i have got to thinking, perhaps i should search when i have the monies for one which is nice externally but needs a rebuild, this way i can have it street/bridge ported and a single turbo conversion and have the car how i want from the site, now i reckon from what i have been seeing you can get a decent rx7 which needs rebuild from between 1k and 1.5k, i would then have up to a further 3.5k for the rest, soooo what are people paying for rebuilds with street port/ bridge port, which one would i need for every day useability, im not looking for more that 350-400hp, i know i would need an apexi so thats 500 outta the aquation so 3k for rebuild with a port and single turbo conversion, is this possible?
Depends what the engine needs in parts, but expect to pay circa 2.5K for a rebuild which includes new housings, apex seals, springs, add another £500 for porting.
So adding the cost for single turbo kit and the added bit syou need I dont think you can do it all for £3.5k
But you dont need a single turbo to get 350bhp, stock twins will get you 350bhp if everything else is done correctly
how much does a single turbo conversion work out to be compared to say a non sequencial mod?
Been reading up and i think all i need is the twins but it all setup right, im hoping to buy a car with an exhaust system on as very few standard, set of air filters, maybe a larger intercooler and a decat, then if i get it street ported with an apexi and it should be ok, if the turbo\'s let go then i can decide then but at least i know the engine would be good, if i aim\'d for a very ample 350hp would i need to fit larger injectors?? Just want to know what i would need so i can research prices etc etc.
Ive spent roughly 3.5k on going to a single turbo but then again ive bought some expensive branded parts :Giggle
you can do 350bhp on stock injectors but you will be close to maxing them out, you have 2 options, fit an adjustable fuel regulator and up the fuel pressure slightly to give you head room, or fit a paid of 850cc injectors where the primary injectors are, this will give you much more room.
both cost similar money, for example my 850cc cost me £30 for the pair, but i mapped my car myself which isnt easy on 850cc injectors so no cost there.
a fuel reg will cost about £60 and once setup mapping will be easier to do
If you only want 350bhp then you can get that from the standard twins and a bit of porting. More than that and you\'ll be wanting a single turbo and all the supporting mods to make things nice and safe.
Dont forget that if you do go single that you can sell on a lot of the standard bits to help cover the costs of some of the new stuff you\'ll need
If you have the time and a place to work on the car then you can save a little bit by taking the engine out and putting it back in again yourself. There are some guides on how to do that on here and i managed it last winter with the help of some good mates in a couple of days (we took our time :p)

Well im a mechanic so engine in and out wouldnt be a problem, if I knew what I was doing I would strip it get it ported and rebuild but I dont know much about the rotary, so 850cc injectors, a good map, street ported, decat, exhaust, filters. Would making it non sequencial make more power and do I need a larger intercooler?
Whats this non sequencial all about?
The twin turbos are sequential as stand which is one comes in at lower rpm and second comes in later but u can make them with a mod come in at the same time for one big boost
Non Sequential doesnt make anymore power!!!.
It makes your twin turbo set up run like a single i.e both turbos spool together building boost around 3k rpm and imo ruins the drivability on the street as you have zero low end power until 3k.
In standard sequential form the primary spools up from 1800rpm with the secondary turbo coming in together with the primary turbo at 4500rpm.
Imo the only positives to come from non sequential is, less rats nest to diagnose if you have a problem and from 3k there is no dip in power which in sequential you get at the 4500rpm transition. If the sequential system is working as Mr mazda intended it is an awesome power curve and the responsiveness is excellent.
Im sure all the people who are now running in non-sequential will now tell you the opposite :-).
Lol well i thank you and others for all information, im here to learn more and more which i am, i want to be able to buy the very best for my money and im sure with 18 months of this place i will know exactly what im looking at and wont get conned into anything, im soo excited u wouldnt believe, im gonna research into building it myself and just getting the porting done professionally, that way i know every aspect of my car, just want to know if there is any extra things other than i stated like front mount or larger intercooler, i will be getting a hks d/valve and a few other bits and bobs but will only get what i need.
There is a lot of good engine builders , just make sure you go to a good one , ourselfs , hayward , ect ...
Just make sure its someone who knows what they are doing , have a read about what type of port you want and what suits your needs best , Because the end of the day the engine is the bit that matters most :D
turbos , intercoolers (bolt on stuff) can be changed anytime ...:)
Well mate u know better than I would, im lookin at 350hp to get a fast road car but may want more later as in 400ish so wot sorta port would I need, can u also quote me for a rebuild with portin but one if I took engine out and in and one with u doing it?
Also how much for the orange rx7?
I would go for a large Streetport, actually there is Robrs who is selling plates already with a big street port which was good for over 500bhp over on the FDUK forum for a good price (UK 3rd gen rx7 forum) would save you a bit of money that way
They wont let me sign on as I havent got an fd yet
