Title: Random rant of the day.....Don\'t you just hate....

....eBay?

Or more specifically, eBay users? Leaving aside people just blatantly ripping you off, trying to sell utter cack as genuine, knock-offs, endless pages of listings for life-alteringly brilliant windscreen wipers etc etc, it seems nowadays even when the actual transaction is smooth and trouble free there\'s something annoying about it.

For example, WTF is it with people who seem to have an allergic reaction to leaving feedback? How hard is that? I even had one recently where he paid for the item without even needing invoicing (rare) so I sent it next day, emailed him to let him know it was on the way, left glowing feedback for him, then he emails me two days later to say it arrived all in top condition, he was over the moon, been looking for one for ages, blah blah blah...then didn\'t leave feedback  So, what the holy fduk is his problem, he had to be logged onto eBay to meassage me via their system, how hard would it have been to have left feedback whilst he was at it?

Another one, bloke buys bike frame and engine from me, pays for it, agrees a time for his driver to pick it up...then never turns up. No repsonse to emails, except one a few weeks ago to say he\'d just moved and had been busy...then nothing, and it\'s now been cluttering up my garage for months. Wierd thing is, he\'s paid for it, what am I suposed to do? Can\'t just chuck it away, no point in threatening him with storage costs since he doesn\'t repsond to email anyway, WTF!?

It\'s just not worth the bloody hassle any more, eBay. All the "protection" is weighted in the favour of the scammers and eBay don\'t give a monkeys so long as they get their fees. You have to jump through hoops just to list something nowadays, fees are exorbitant, it seems they don\'t really want custom from random blokes just selling a few odd bits, they want shop sellers listing thousands of thing a week....which is a shame cos the former is exactly what made eBay great in the first place, and the latter is sorta what Amazon\'s for really

Anyway, thanks for sharing this moment, I feel much better for getting that rant off my chest :Giggle Anyone else think that it\'s a victim of its own success and more work than it should be, or am I just a grumpy old man?

I just cant be bothered with all the waste of time random ridiculous questions.

Example 1 Recently sold my Largo Highway Star, listed as 4 wheel drive, i had a guy email me telling me they never did them in 4 wheel drive, he was shocked when i responded that i then must have the only 4 wheel drive one in the world and the price has now gone up to 1 zillion pounds! Followed by a link to Largo specs, highlighting 4 wheel drive was an option!

Example 2 Placed a wanted add, ok not strictly what ebay is for, but was amazed by the amount of people who bid (on nothing) and one guy with a massive 2 feedback who "on this occasion decided not to report me to ebay for a breach of rules and ebay is for selling, not wanted adds", you can imagine my response to him!

The fact that the fees have gone up so much, really annoys me.  Coupled with the Paypal fees, you can see why a lot of people attempt to complete the transaction outside of Ebay.  I have done this a few times as a buyer and seller.

As mentioned above there is also an absolute truck load of idiots and crap ads.

Example.
Last week whilst looking for an iphone 4 I came across one of those stupid ads where they aren\'t actually selling an iphone, but are in fact advertising a link to somewhere where you can get one free (crappy cons).  Though this was a waste of time, the seller did make it abundantly clear that people should not bid on the item (THIS AUCTION IS NOT FOR IPHONE, DO NOT BID).............. 20 bids 2ith 3 days to go and a price of £70.56.  IDIOTS

But you can place a wanted listing - or at least you used to be able to?

I\'ve been really put off ebay lately

when I sold off my bikes recently, I sold a pair of rockshox pike forks a guy buys them with a really low feed back emailed him after he paid and said I will post the next day which I did get a email back saying thats great ect.

3 days after they was been posted get a email paypal has the wrong address even tho it was "confirmed" address so I tried to sort it out.

in the mean time he put a dispute in with paypay and paypal then took the money out of my account to refund him even tho I had proof of postage and was in the process of sorting it out.

Paypal just moved the goal posts first they wanted proof of postage which I gave them then they wanted proof of delivery so I sent them the royal mail letter I received to say they was delivered but as it didn\'t have a time there would be no seller protection in this case so I was left £300 out of pocket also royal mails insurance didn\'t cover it due to been sent to the wrong address.

but after I put a financial ombudsman (fos) complaint in. They refund the money as a good will so I claimed the fees back too :D not used ebay since then

Havig sold a classic subbuteo team to a ...... in italy, i feel everyones pain.

£6 he bought it for, then had the cheek to say it wasnt in "mint" condition ( i never put that in the advert)....baring in mind this was a team from the early 70\'s.
He wouldnt send it back cos it cost more in postage from italy to uk, and wanted me to cover the postage back again....i refused, paypal ruled in my favour, and the twot left me negative feedback!

Looking through his feedback, he was quite clearly a "dealer" in classic subbuteo.

Its so weighted towards the buyer, its unreal.

My main beef is with paypal as they seem to defend the \'buyer\' to the death and leave the seller high and dry.

Example

I sold a genuine U2 military helmet in wooden crate-some italian goon wins the bidding at nearly £300 and he pays straight away. I ship the item in one of those plastic stack and store boxes safe in the knowledge that even if a bored parcel sorter gets the hump and plays football with the box it\'ll be safe and sound. This is sent by parcelforce with a tracking number and requires a signature. Next thing I know I get an email saying a dispute has been opened by the buyer stating he hasn\'t recieved the item blah blah at which point paypal just take what he stated as gospel and just refund him the whole amount out of my account.

So in the eyes of paypal, the seller is guilty until proven otherwise. I went to parcelforce and they supplied a copy of the delivery note with signature at the address I was supplied, it was even signed for by someone with the same surname as the winning bidder (probably dad, gay lifepartner, whatever). So I triumphantly presented this to paypal who promptly disregarded this as it wasn\'t signed for by the actual buyer. WTF since when has this had to happen?

Never saw my helmet again and because I\'d already withdrawn the funds from my paypal account it put the account I use solely for paypal overdrawn when they snatched it back without even a courtesy note so another £30 charge. Pricks.

If paypal took money out of your bank account without your authorisation your bank should be able to reverse that. Paypal isn\'t a direct debit so anytime they want to take money out of your account you should have to confirm it. I had a similar problem with paypal where they tried on numerous occasions to take money from my bank account and each time I\'ve had my bank return me the money.

Yeah well they kindly carried out the \'refund\' on my behalf. This was a while back now though so no chance of me getting it back-plus I challenged their decision and that was also refused so that was that.

This is exactly why many people (myself included) won\'t sell stuff to Italy. Their postal "system" is well known for being entirely staffed by total theives! I had a nightmare once with an eBay sale to a guy in Italy, and fortunately it was high enough value he\'d stumped for proper international tracking. It was eventually traced to a postage warehouse where they store things they\'ve stolen for long enough for the punter to lose interest then they sell them on! Apparently its a big business, and so prevalent it\'s almost accepted :3Confused

I never buy from ebay since it\'s not transparent enough for my liking.  Too easy for crooks to relieve the unsuspected of their hard earned.

I have never had any problems buying, touch wood! The feedback is always worth a look at beforehand though! I did buy 2 jetski\'s from there but always agreed cash on collection, so if i turned up and they were sh*t, i could walk away!

At least on ebay you can settle disputes relatively easier. Instead of trying to communicate via Email where the seller never sends the product paid for and takes months to reply to you. Yet still has the time to post in threads like this.

Right Jit?

I\'ve only sold a couple of items on ebay, value £2k approx,i\'ve been fairly lucky but ebays fees & paypal, ouch!
I wont buy from anyone with less than 95% positive feedback & i,ve sold items where the buyer could\'nt be arsed to leave feedback, despite me doing it.
From what i\'ve read there do seem to be more timewasters abusing it.

I\'ve sold a few cars on eBay, most have been smooth-bought NEV off there unseen so can\'t complain too much although I did have a chap who came from Kent to buy my very tidy 110 CSW Landrover and he complained it didn\'t drive very well.

"This is the first Landrover you\'ve ever driven isn\'t it?" I said

"Yes" he replied

"FFS" was my retort.

Won\'t be sending anything to Italy again in a hurry though that\'s fo\' sho\'.

Had a buddy sell an old skool 3 series recently. The chap came from Essex, a good 150 miles, looked the car over, handed over the dough, drove it all the way back to Essex and then phoned up to complain it wasnt as good as he thought!!

Left negative feedback an all, yet 4 hours earlier he had been stood right next to it!!

The only time I\'ve been ripped off was from a member on here and FDUK.
If I ever travel to Bristol he will get a visit.

Bristol ? I know Oscar had a few of us, he was down in like Poole though IIRC. That was actually my first experience of being gang raped by the buyer, eBay and PayPal all rolled  into one, sadly not my last. Paypal protection has to be the biggest lie since Moses came back from Arrarrat with his laundry list under his arm and thought "I wonder how many of the tribes I can take in if I tell them this is the Word of God".....

:Giggle I\'m guessing your a bit sceptical about the whole old testament thing there Nik.
I am lucky that I have never been oscared by Oscar himself but by Mike Rex, possibly one of his trainees:rolleyes:

buying from ebay is as safe as they will always side with the buyer.

as long as you have proof of delivery. if they start playing games just contact the Financial Ombudsman Service(fos) took about 10 mins and within 4 weeks I had a full refund and if they don\'t give you the answer you want then you contact the fos again who then look into them selfs and if they find anything wrong or unfair they take action using the FSA

I was told ebay would receive a £300 fee for the fos services
