I dont mind the royal family at all, but its not right to cover all the papers with this story when there are much more important stories to tell.

Due to where they were born the royals are folk that will not feel the general hardship others feel and will never have to worry about how they will pay their next bill.

Personally i could not care less if they got married or not, but good luck to them from trying to keep out of the media.

Everyone has the right to marry..but when the marriage is conducted on the Tax payers money..then everyone would have a problem with it loll

The royals have delivered a great country to the public of the UK, but it was not on the condition that the general public would foot the bill of their marriage, food, royalty etc etc....

Good luck to William and Kate..

You need to go back into history on why the Royal family get the money they do.
The royal family ran the country before Parliment and the people gained power, it was a condition and agreement of the Royal family before they handed over all power to Parliment they get money eg the Civil list.

At the end of the day the Royal Family and its buildings associated to them attract a huge number of tourists and money to this country. Each person in this country only pays 62p a year towards their upkeep, not a bad deal considering the huge tourist industry and the people employed into it.

If you got rid of the Royal family and became a Republic, this country will lose a lot of its charm and romanticism not having a living Royal family thus will attract less Tourists to this country. It will also get rid one thing that makes this country unique in the world.

If we pay for the wedding so what, it might mean another 10p per person.
But the actual money it will bring in from tourists will be massive in the week they will get married. People need to think of the bigger picture.

Well the source of blitzboy theory is Bill of Rights 1688-89.The reason of the bill of right was to derogate king from the Parliamentary affairs as the King was making ultra vires decisions. The reason the British government don\'t want to get rid of the Royal family is because they don\'t want President above them otherwise they would have to share governmental powers, however by virtue of Bill of Rights, Queen is only symbolic and does not have a say in any matters. The govt have their own ulterior motive in funding the royal family.

Sources,
bill of rights 1688-89
westminster statute act 1931

Lastly, I m a big fan of Princess Diana and respect Queen (in my field of work, we call queen R (crown)). I agree that Royal buildings do attract copious amount of tourisim and visitors which doubtedly bring revenue to our economy but as blitz say "bigger picture" we also have to consider where that money can be spent productively.. We have students from diverse backgrounds who are made to pay over 9 grand in tuition fees and we have homeless people who are in despread need of housing..l say let\'s take everyone on board before we conclude on an issue. No disrespect to any1, I m just airing my opinion...Blitz have a valid point- I m only advocating reasonability..

Vomit inducing, mass hysteria by millions of gullible, easily influenced peeps who don\'t even know the couple & will have forgotten all about it 2 days after the event.
If you believe the press all our economic woes will magically dissapear due to a royal wedding,don\'t believe it,just like the Olympics they\'ll lie to you about the cost before the event, then the real astronomical cost will be revealed after the event.
If they won\'t to get married pay for it themselves or shock/horror go to a registry office, leeches is too kind a description.
No apologies offered to sensitive, emotional peeps,it is after all only my opinion.

My sentiments exactly.
So what if tax payers money is being used for this wedding. There\'s plenty of people sat around on their butts doing nothing and claiming benifits which cost the tax payer loads more than this will, and as has already said, with all the plates, mugs, coins, stamps, bunting and party food that will be bought for the big day, never mind all the tourists that\'ll come too, it\'ll more than pay for itself.
What always amuzes me is that so many people will moan and whinged about having to pay towards it (although their pay packet wont change 1p) but they\'ll happily take a bank holiday off if given to them :p
Lighten up and lets all have a bloody good party :Party :Party :Party

Adam

P.S. At least we\'ll get to see more of her face on the TV now. Can\'t be a bad thing surely ;)

Your not a very happy chappy are you dude, English football (which by the way he played the younger up and comers and they f****** it too) and now the Royal family. :Laugh

The royal family is what makes this country great imho, without them we would be some random nothing ness country that gradually blends into the obscurity of the EU. Personally i dont care about a marriage but good on them, i always think the Royals have a hell of a life, yes they may enjoy the benefits of our tax, but sh*t, would you trade what you have for being under the scrutiny of the public and press everytime you leave the house. Poor little Harry cant even go to a bash in fancy dress without hysteria, i am sure he wasnt really advocating Hitler and what he stood for!

I would be more concerned at the likely hood of bailing out Ireland, an alledged 7 billion which is exactly the amount the budget cuts plan to save!

Ah Jetpilot,
So nice to converse with you since our clash on the footy thread.
England 1,france 2,yes england had a b side, but so did the french, both sides had the same amount of caps, the french have turned their game around, england are still dismall, enough said.

The royal family are wealthy enough to pay for their own wedding, the UK  has the worst debt out of any G20 country, councils due to lack of government funds are even considering switching off street lights to save money, the UK is actually bankrupt & yet we are throwing away much needed resources on a royal wedding & the olympics.
The government consistently lies to us about the costs of hosting events, the royal wedding will be no exception,i very much doubt bunting, tea mugs, plates,tv rights will any where near cover the costs of this event especially when you take security into account.
Ireland is very important to the UK,we export more to Ireland per annum than India/China & Russia combined!
Then there\'s the savers with irish bank acc\'s.
Am i happy, yes, very because i don\'t toe the line unless i believe in it & am not influenced by mass/over hyped hysteria.

I think nobbling the future Queen is still treason, hate preachers are inciting racial hatred which we\'ve dumbed down and made a meagre prison type crime.  The proper old school punishments were the best.  People got properly worried about being hung, drawn and quartered, or being burned at the stake.

I wish Kate & William all the best,i certainly don\'t hate them.

Only thing i hate is the inevitable cover up/the media lies/spin doctors/government twaddle about how this is gonna be G8 for the UK,the real cost will only emerge after the wedding[security will be a massive bill] after the taxpayers money has been spent, the estimates of cost before the event will be woefully inadequate as usual.

That is the sole reason that in British History Books...1688-89 was considered as a "Glorious Revolution"...had it not been glorious, why would British history writer called it a glorious....why they were never hanged or dragged upon or even killed.  It was the lavish spendings of the king (Royal Family) and the unreasonable decisions of the king that led to the Bill of Rights 1688-89...Royals were and are famous for lavish spending despite the fact that their royal buildings contributes less then .1percent to the the British economy :) (I have no source for this comment just looking as a whole of British Economy which was estimated 569 Billion in 2007-a year).....Less than what students contribute to the economy (7 billion ..2005,6,7 Statistics of Student Fees).

I still say long live the Queen, But the Queen as a Symbolic Head of the State (Source: Bill of Rights) should apply the term of common sense and contribute physically to the economy by donating some money from her coffer...But do you guys think "Common Sense is Common" I don\'t think :)

No offence to any writer of this thread, I just felt that I can make a cogent comment so I submitted it

Regards
Syed

They\'ve stumping up £100k.  The Prince is going to be in possession of a significant Private Holdings company in the shape of the Duchy of Cornwall when his Granny dies so I don\'t think he\'s going to be short of cash.  Plus he\'s on flying pay and that puts rock star wages to shame or so my Military Aviator mates tell me.
