Right, the time has come to order some new tyres, amongst the many other costs I\'m racking up! :(
I can\'t decide between Yoko AD08s or Federal 595 RS-Rs - the AD08 is clearly a brilliant tyre, but a set (17s) will cost me over £100 extra. The Federal has some good reviews, but I can\'t work out if it will be as good in the cold/wet as the AD08 (not that I\'m expecting either to be brilliant).
I need these as trackday tyres as well as fun road tyres - the car isn\'t a daily driver and I don\'t intend to use it in the wet, freezing conditions etc. However, in this country you never know how the weather will change! So I want something that can clear a bit of water should the need arise.
Any experiences? I\'ve ruled out proper trackday tyres (888, A048, V70 etc.) as they don\'t last too long on the road and don\'t shift water. Michelin Pilot Sport and Conti Contact Sport 3s are more expensive than the AD08, so not keen on those. There is the Toyo R1-R, but I\'ve never had good experiences with Toyos.
Do I spend the cash on the known brand or take a punt on the Federal outsiders!?
Go with the popular vote for T1-R? Good on road and track, although obviously not as grippy as 888\'s, and fine in wet or dry. Got a few track days out of mine too, mostly airfields with reasonable surfaces. Did melt the previous set round Brands Hatch though...
I\'m looking at R-compound tyres for my next set for more grip in track, but been happy with my current ones overall.
Chris.
Toyo T1-R? The tyre that melts when shown a picture of the sun!? ;)
My experience is that the sidewalls are far too soft, rubber can\'t take the heat and they\'re not the best gripping road tyre anyway, never mind on track. Gonna have to be an R-compound or something close for me. :)
