Title: Coolant Woes
Post by: Jase_ on November 15, 2010, 05:23:41 PM
Ok, so my AST exploded on me the other day, temps soared and coolant everywhere. Managed to sort with water and limp home.

Did the champagne test and all seems ok (no bubbles when cold)

So thought now was the perfect time to fit my alloy rad and remove the ast.

So today i drained the rad, (the coolant is an orangey-brown colour, looks a bit like, well, you get it) whats that all about?

Removed rad, and all A/C while i was at it.

Replaced the filler body with one that would accept the gen2 filler neck.

Replaced the rad and connected all up.

Now this is where i think i may have gone wrong, i put in coolant, then topped up with water using the centre filler neck. Purged the air by squeezing the large hoses as i went until it wouldnt take any more.

Went to start the car, all seemed well, except the pulley tensioner between the PS pump doesnt move now with the new belt in place, think the bolt needs loosened.

The temps seemed fine, the car ran nicely, if not idling a bit high (2500rmp) Then all of a sudden the buzzer came on, ok i expected that, but i STUPIDLY took the pressure cap off and recieved coolant to the face.

Now im guessing that would have been normal as its a pressure cap in place, whereas before it was a normal cap? Or have i made a mistake somewhere?

Oh and my dump valve is now constantly ....ing out boot which it never before...

Any ideas on any of it?

Ive ordered new silicon hoses for the rad, would it be worthwhile getting a new thermostat too?

Any help much appreciated as the car is sat covered in coolant!
