I\'m sure this will get some arguments but i am going to base my top ten on playing ability as an individual not as a team member.
See what you think?
10 - HAGI
9 - ZICO
8 - DI STEFANO
7 - ZIDANE
6 - EUSEBIO
5 - PUSKAS
4 - BECKENBAUER
3 - CRUYFF
2 - PELE
1 - MARADONA
As a team player you would place Pele above Maradona but as an individual i think not.
In our generation we might have 2 others that make that list in the future:
Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi
Greatest goal scorers ever:
6 - Romario 1002 goals - BRAZIL
5 - Franz Binder 1006 goals - GERMANY
4 - Pele 1284 goals - BRAZIL
3 - Arthur Friedenreich - 1329 goals - BRAZIL
2 - Gerd Muller - 1461 goals - GERMANY
1 - Josef Bican - 1467 goals - CZECH
you see, this one is wide open Gurj.
you havent included any goalkeepers in that lot either.
^^ yeah, what about Shilton lol?
Depends how you define greatness I suppose....goals scored, number of caps, salary commanded, medals won, women shagged, the list goes on. Plus, how can you compare players of different eras...was someone who scored tens of goals back in 1889 when the pitches were grassless ploughed fields, they were playing in hobnailed boots and the ball weighed twenty pounds a worse player than someone scoring hundreds of goals today with billiard table pitches, super-scientifically designed footwear and balls lighter than a feather?
Don\'t think you can really give any definitive top ten, the spectrum is just too broad...........But if you could, it would surely have to include Billy Bremner just for influence on any game he was in :p. Paul Scholes would be the current equivalent, I suppose. And Brian Clough, it took like 50 years for Kevin Phillips to equal his goal scoring ratio. Don\'t really know much about all them foreigners, doesn\'t interest me much tbh and I\'ve never seen most of them play. Everyone always says like Eusebio and that, but who\'s ever seen footage of him playing ? Like ten seconds of grainy black and white isn\'t enough for me to make my own mind up, and whats the point in just regurgitating every old pundits\' opinions?
It\'s a bit like people say Fangio would have kicked Senna\'s arse or Mike Hailwood would blow Valentino Rossi into the weeds, their eras were so far apart it\'s a meaningless comparison, there\'s no common ground between the madmen that used to wrestle 200 mph aero-engined mosters around in 1930 on bicycle tyres and drum brakes and the pilot of a modern carbon tubbed F1 car. Its all massive bravery and skill, but with no overlap to be judged on, and I think football\'s probably similar tbh, it may still be blokes kicking a ball but its changed massively even since the Leagues were formed properly, let alone back over a century ago. After all, Aston Villa won the first world cup IIRC but that doesn\'t make them the best team in the world. Or even the best team in the Midlands :rollin
If it done on honors then surely Giggs would be high up there

Yes but Gurj Football is a "team" sport, so only being great individually means you have great skills with ya feet, but not a great Footballer.
Thats why Pele is the better "Footballer" then Maradonna. Pele was good for far longer then Maradonna and helped Brazil to multi World Cup wins
Maradonna was the worlds shortest basketball player wasnt he?

But you have missed a point here, in the Brazil teams that Pele won multiple world cups they were enriched with great players all around him. Maradona was not.
Trust Nik to try and get a Leeds player in there :Nono!
In which case Dixie Dean should be in there, his record will never be broken, 60 gls in one season :Party:Party:Party
Nowadays 30 is a good target :Hammer
Ronaldo Luiz De Lima
Put Gazza in the list.
Serious......at the time, there wasnt another player like Gazza skill wise, but unfortunately, he was only great for about 4-5 years when he was at newcastle and spurs.
Ronaldo Luiz de Lima from age 18-20, there was none like him.
Two world player of the year awards by 20, not even Messi managed that.
During those two years, his strength, pace and skill was untouchable. The Ronaldinho dink he did when he was 18 in a match before Ronaldinho was even playing. Watch the videos of youtube at PSV, Barca and first year at Inter.
The most talented player without question.
I did think to add Ronaldo, by all means do your own top tens to compare :Thumbs-up
10, Defoe
9, Hutton
8, Dawson
7, King
6, Lennon
5, Huddlestone
4, Crouch
3, Modric
2, Van Der Varrt
1, Bale
What, still no goalkeeper, Dan? What about Comedy Gomez? :rollin
Gurj, are you saying Bremner
wasn\'t one of the most influential players on his era of English football then :p? I still think this is an excercise in utter futility, you can\'t even compare the "greatness" of a centre forward to a centre back because their performance is measured on such totally different parameters. And even given the attack-minded nature of your selections, is there really no room for Georgie Best? Or Stanley Matthews? Hmmmm...

There are only 10 positions to fill, if you want to include Bremner then Dalglish is a must, Bob Latchford, Dixie Dean, Zola, Cantona, and we soon run out of places.
the top ten is for those players who had something special that made them sit just above the names such as those mentioned above :D
And you know what i meant about Pele having great players around him and Maradona not so much :o
Actually, cane we include Tony Hibbert ????
