well quite surpised at the number of people that use the recovery service but none seems totally related to a rotary problem. Thought I would start something to see if there was a trend in common problems and maybe thats the areas where we should concentrate during the cars maintenance.
just post up what car you have and your problem, more importantly what fixed it.
FC TII 1990, called AA out as it just stopped dead with seemingly no spark or anything, turned over great though. I was lucky and had a Datalogit installed and my laptop with me. AA chap noticed I had no RPM indication within datalogit software when turning it over and went straight for the CAS connector. As soon as he touched it , it fell apart. One scotch lock later i was on my way. I subsequently replaced the entire connector, main fault was age and heat fatigue.
A.A twice, two engine,s blown and a supercharger :Hammer:Hammernever mind zoom zoom mine went boom boom:rollin:rollin:rollin
my was because the air pump stopped working and ripped off my belt
Egi alternator belt snapped on the motorway and I watched as my voltage slowly dropped and the car spluttered and died, aa replaced it and I was on my way.
The only other time in about 10 years was a ford escort van died on the m18 in heavy rain twas pretty scary!
Called the RAC when I planted my first FD quite deep into some scenery :o The flatbed truck guy had to dig a hole to get the winch strop under the front of the car, it was that deeply embedded, then had to winch it out of some trees :(
Most recently had to call a recovery when my daily "reliable" MR2 ate it\'s entire electrical system en route to collect some parts for the FD :HammerHad to have several bikes recovered from various bits of landscape too, though I usually try to ride them home if possible, even if bits have broken off. The sooner you get back on.....
Never had to call the RAC for a "fault" with an RX-7 in five years of ownership (smashing one to bits doesn\'t count as a fault :Giggle)
Because i put Diesel in it!
I\'ve had to call them out 2 tiwice. 1st time was just after I\'d bought the FD and it had just died, no power at all when turing it over, this was about 10 mins after i\'d been driving, turned out the battery connection was loose. :Hammer
2nd time was when the car died while driving, the man turned up, sucked through his teeth, asked me to turn her over and said...
"head gaskets gone" he was put off somewhat when my lass started laughing at him (i\'ve never been more proud of her :InLove)
Turned out the wiring was knackered to the fuel pump so he connected a battery straight to the fuel pump so I could get it home.
Really!!! and in what motor Dickens!? :eek :Laugh

I like to live life on the edge. Never been a member of any breakdown service and i\'ve never broken down. 1-0 to me i\'d say :p

On my FD 2 years ago Phil!:Hammer
Managed to fill it up with Ultimate Diesel, luckily it wouldn\'t start after that so had to get the RAC to take the car home for me (was only 6 miles away, was rushing to go to Santapod).
Spoke to Reworx once i got all the Diesel out, they suggested linking a couple of wires and removing a fuse, to allow me to pump the fuel around, started up a dream but smoked like a trooper for a good 10mins... I still have \'it takes Diesel\' as my screen saver at work!:Thumbs-up
i\'m a pro user of the recovery services, over 5 years money well spent:
1. oil leak, AA trailered it 180 miles to haywards
2. 2 weeks later oil leak wasn\'t fixed, aa trailered 180 miles back to haywards
3. clutch hose split, aa towed to local garage
4. ran out of petrol (gauge broke, read halfway) aa trailered me to petrol station
5. flooded it in b&q carpark, aa tow-started me
6. clutch at brands, aa trailered to super-7
7. oil leak and private tow company trailered to super-7 (twice) where it currently still resides.
once out to the EGI ages ago , it was flooded - but showed me the trick of clamping the fuel hose to start her
the other time , made it a mile from home , touched the brakes and 2 inch of water in the passenger footwell blew the ECU - it was dark and i didnt expect the cab to leak that much !! LOL
no matter how many times i told him that i had blown the ECU he didnt believe me ( i knew as thats what happened when i bought it )
Radiator falling out while 40km away from my destination, Magdeburg in Germany.. Woops!
once, in my old EGi, the alternator went kaput on me, made an almighty bang as the car backfired and died in quite a residential area at 2 in the morning... was bloody cold that night too!
