After liberally applying exhaust filler for the last 2 mots I promised Geoff the tester I would get a new exhaust for the next one :(
Can anyone recommend a "reasonably standard" exhaust for a TII cab? Nothing lairy or too loud and certainly nothing that\'s going to give me sleepless nights worrying about whether the emissions will pass the mot or not! (So removing the ACV etc is out). I get stressed enough about mots on all my toys as it is.
Just for a laugh I asked the local Maz dealer and it came out at about £2,400 for a standard system! Ha ha ha - laughed all the way home on that one.
Basically my cat has discovered religion (i.e. holy), although the downpipe has also lost a lot of its insulation/sound deadening/whatever.
I used to have a Janspeed on the G1S2... ah them were the days... :)
i have a spare cat kicking around and a single exit catback if that is any help.
will be a bit louder than normal but not stupid loud.
I have a mint down pipe and cat from a 91 Tll, collection only though from Horndean. Yours for a Tenner?

I\'ve got a jap downpipe and gutted cat you can have. The jap downpipe doesn\'t include a cat so frees up some more power.
My old one (paul TII may have bought it) was very quiet. 2.5 inch to a decent mid silencer, to a y pipe, to two decent rear boxes. Very very quiet, and still flamed. Was a completely custom jobby.
If you want a full off the shelf system, racing beat is you\'re best bet. As for the emmissions, you shouldn\'t have too much trouble at all with a TII, its the egi\'s that are a pest

I think the rear section (is it called "cat-back"?) - Y-piece and twin rear boxes - is fine but I\'ll go and have a check when it stops raining.

yea. The cat back is from the end of the cat backwards. Be carefull with racing beat stuff. A RB downpipe and pre silencer is shorter than than the jap dowpipe and cat. (they\'re suposed to go in the same place). So if you go for a cat back, for compatibility reasons, make sure your cat (or whatever is replacing it) is in the stock place. A JDM downpipe and gutted cat will free up some fairly decent power.
The emissions should be fine like I said, you may need to lean the mixture slightly and warm up the car, i presume you don\'t have a chipped ECU?.
Also when you start uprating the exhaust you will start needing a FCD or a chipped ECU to stop fuel cut. Shouldn\'t be a problem with the JDM dp, but with that RB system you\'ll need something

Thanks for the info. dthebuk. Yep std ECU (in fact the whole car is totally std at the mo). What\'s a "FCD"? (guess= "fuel cutout device" ?)
I\'m off to get Paul\'s spare bits tonight - I\'ll look at uprating the exhaust when I have some spare cash!

The cat is rusting away/split along the seam and the downpipe has lost some of its heatshield(?) from the lower section.

you remove the air pump too and block off anything thats not being removed.
Fuel cut defender yes. Basically when you go 1psi over stock boost (which can be caused by a decent exhuast) you get fuel cut. FCD\'s stop this and so do chipped ecu\'s. ECU is more money but is also mapped for this higher boost
Got Paul-TII\'s spare exhaust bits last night - many thanks Paul you\'re a life-saver.
If any of you guys get any other stock TII bits you no longer want, just sling them my way ;)
Sorry, but unless you want a great deal of hassle, leave the pump etc in place, and leave the air feed pipe blowing to atmosphere under the car. To go the whole air removal is much more involved... (and I\'m not certain it will pass emissions with the whole lot binned?)
