Title: Friday debate!

And the topic!

Was Harriet Harmons comment (former equalities minster by the way) about Danny Alexander, branding him a "ginger rodent" any worse than racial abuse?

It was a very daft comment for a politician. When political discussions are reduced to personal comment about a man\'s appearance then you\'re probably on the wrong side of the argument.  In terms of saying it was worse than racial abuse, I think it is as bad as racial abuse, singling him out due to his appearance is as reprehensible as singling him out for being racially different.

This is a very rational, well balanced argument that ignores one simple fact....

....he IS a ginger :rollin

Rodent is a particularly ironic insult for Harman to use since she bears a startling resemblance to a Coypu herself :Giggle

It\'s a strange quirk of our society that gingas are apparently the only minority left it\'s OK to discriminate against

I get you.

Ginger Bashing should not be happening in the corridors of power.  If he was black, asian or any other racial demographic and she\'d have made a racial slur then we\'d be reading her resignation statement.

Naive in the extreme, Big Willy :Nono!. Long gone are the days when politicians were moral enough and had a strong enough sense of responsibilty to actually resign when they commit epic gaffes . Now they simply "move sideways" into another department/office, leaving a trail of slime behind them

I guess kind of my point in fairness! Makes me think its one rule for them etc

I think Harmann should be forced out for being personal about another politician for political ends.  Plus I think she\'s just a dreadful example.

Just typical labour in my eyes, im surprised anyone wants them running the country with playground comments like that, it seems the Scots are the biggest supporters but guess a few of them will be offended now as they are the original braveheart red heds (no offence meant) known for their flame coloured locks!

It was a cheap comment designed to garner column inches.  Typical New Labour spin over substance.
