Title: Turbo vs. NA gearbox
Post by: stoney on October 29, 2010, 11:04:20 AM
Hi all,

I\'ve bought a NA fc3 with a buggered gearbox (whining/harsh gear changes/sloppy gear leaver).
I\'ve been offered a turbo gearbox from the same year (\'89) - but I can\'t find anywhere on the forum if this is a direct replacement or if the box needs modifying/different clutch for my NA car?

Anyone upgraded their NA gearbox for for a TII?

Thanks

it\'s not a direct replacement cos turboII\'s fly\'s bigger, propshaft\'s yoke/flange bigger.
N/A box\'s good for 250hp(used to raced with Bridgeport motor for 7 years withoot issue).
find another one to save time.
been there , done that for 20+ years;)

I was planning to install a nitrous kit, so I may exceed the 250bhp those boxes can handle (part of the reason I was thinking of a turbo box).

I think it might be easier and cheaper in the long run to look for a stronger gear kit for my standard box - I don\'t like the sound of a bigger/heavier flywheel and prop. :)

Thanks for the help!
