Title: You know you\'re an RX-7 Owner if...
Post by: trotter on October 29, 2010, 10:48:30 AM
Not had one of these for a while! (shamelessly stolen from various sources \'round t\'interweb):

-A girl asks if you are single and you bring her over to the front of the car and pop your hood.
-If you enter your car from the passenger door.
-You have to pull a fuse when you start your car. Or have to pull the fuse everyday.
-You can actually justify carrying a fire extinguisher in your car because you ACTUALLY think it might catch on fire.
-Your neighbor across the street fires up his chainsaw and you run to the window because you think your car is being stolen.
-You hate SUV\'s but only because you can\'t see through them. You can\'t ..... about "wasting resources" because your car gets half the mileage of a typical truck.
-Tailgaters briefly glow orange, then back off
-You find cars with rear seats to be novelties. "Haha, look at me, I\'m sitting *behind* the driver!"
-You find nothing unusual about staring directly into the license plates of Focuses at stoplights.
-Your sister gets her leg bitten by a neighbors dog, she\'s crying, leaning on your car, and you\'re worried she\'s going to dent it.
-You remember to shift at the buzzer when drag-racing someone NOT when they shift.
-You drool at 1.3 liters or the almighty 2.0 liter engines.
-You pride yourself in having less pistons then somone else.
-You quit bothering to reset the radio stations \'cause you keep pulling and/or disconnecting the battery.
-Backfires go from a "bad" thing, to a very very "cool" thing.
-You use straws and tortilla chips to explain to other people how a rotary engine works.
-People often remind you that you left your car running.
-You see motorway exit number 13b and you think of your engine.
-Or you see motorway exit number 20b and you dream about another engine.
-Or you see motorway exit number 26b and you get chills down your spine.
-When driving someone else\'s car, thats a manual piston car, you bring it up past redline and shift, and the owner gets all mad, then you claim its because of the 7.
-Your local mechanic can\'t fix your car.
-It ran 625 miles in a year ,and the engine has been open 3 times allready.
-You think that 15 MPG is good!
-You avoid drive throughs because you can\'t shift and hold a cup at the same time
-Your car catches on fire at an autocross and you get out of your car like its nothing out of the ordinary while the rest of the people are rushing to your car screaming its on fire.
-Emission testers fail you as soon as you walk in.
-You cry when gas prices go up.
-You can\'t eat alphabet soup because it reminds you of emission controls.
-You\'ve explained that the 787B isn\'t a plane a thousand times.
-You have to tell people "yes, its supposed to sound and smell like that"
-You can take off the upper intake manifold in your sleep.
-You are still trying to understand why the other cars slow down for the tight corners
-The local traffic police all know you by first middle and last name, street address, license plate # and favorite food. They\'re starting to get quite upset with you trying to explain to them that "Sir, My car just isn\'t capable of driving at such low speeds"
-You know more about rotaries and the FD than the Mazda dealership, that\'s a given (not saying too much either)
-You spent £10k under the bonnet but still have the stock stereo system
-When you make right turns going the speed limit
-People think you are rich even though your car is 10 years old.
-You have numerous gauges for a reason, not just to look cool
-People in traffic stop in disbelief at the position your two female passengers are cramped in
-Your brother refers to both the bumper view in racing games and the view from your car as the "sliding on the ground view"
-You have to strap in groceries to your passenger seat
-You can happily shoot 2 foot flames from your exhaust without any nifty electronic gizmos
-You look into the men\'s urinal and see a rotor shapped sanitary cake. You chuckle.
-When you see rotor shapes in just about anything triangular
-When your teacher/boss ask you why there are soo many funny looking triangles all over your papers
-Your girlfriend knows more about cars than most of your other friends from listening to you babble
-Your girlfriend knows more about cars than most full-time mechanics.
-You laugh at people when they tell you to take your car to the local Mazda dealership to get it fixed
-You have a personal conference with a mechanic before you let him touch your car
-You only trust your 7 with one mechanic in the city, and only after he proves to you that he does know what he is talking about
-You enjoy watching people jaws drop when you tell them that your friend and you carried your 500hp+ engine across the garage
-The smell of burnt oil doesn\'t concern you in the least
-You know what the hell pre-mix means
-People inform you that your pouring 2 cycle oil in your tank and you just turn, smile, and nod
-One person a week tells you at a stop light "I think your burning oil" and you reply "yeah, i know".
-Someone sees your car smoking and like a smartass says "har de har har what kinda 2 stroke oil you running in that thing?" and you actually have an answer for them
-When you can tell if there is another RX-7 near by because of the \'rotary smell\'
-You ignore people when they come up and say fire is coming out the back of your car
-You always take the "Long way home"
-You follow other RX-7\'s and get them to pull over so you can exchange phone numbers
-You talk to your -7
-You have ever complained about the banning of rotary powered vehicles from Le Mans racing
-You have engine parts on display somewhere in your house
-You catch yourself looking at the reflection of your -7 while driving by shop front glass
-When you give someone a ride and love to see the passenger freak out and telling you how fast the car is for a long time
-You buy a perfectly good and expensive part, only to sell it a year later on the forum for half of what you paid for it, just so you can get another part that is barely slightly better
Someone ever asked you "do you care about the ozone layer??" and you reply "no"
-You have an engine rotor on your keychain
-If someone were to give you (insert random expensive car you like), you\'d sell it and put the money into ur 7
You get excited if you see an RX-7 on tv or in a movie
-You see the words BRAP BRAP BRAP and know excatly what they mean
-When your friends ignore you as soon as they hear "My car..."
-You smile everytime you see your car.
-You have never, and will never, let anyone else drive your car.
-You get confused when your brakes are bad cause you dont know how to say you need new rotors.
-You claim that the rotary is "the replacement for displacement".
-You consider 4-5k rpm to be low revving
-You downshift at 4k rpms.

-When you laughing your ass off when you reading this thread while no other people know whats wrong with you

I had exactly the same thing a while back too (although mine is smoking rather a lot anayway) but this guy didn\'t use such nice language.
Once i\'d left him for dead at the light he soon realised it wasn\'t as f^&$ed as he thought :3gears-rh

My wife picked these out as the most relevent to me while she was giggling away that a whole community of us think and feel very alike, joined by a common ozone/petrol/money eating pastime yet beautiful but undeniably just a car, God love her.

This was her choice that sounded the most like me, or in her words "that daft grin"
-You smile everytime you see your car.

There\'s a really important one missing which is along the lines of;
Your three year-old son always wants to go places in daddy\'s car rather than mummy\'s cos it "goes really fast and makes funny noises" :D

A couple more to add to the list:

-Your friends often leave the car with sweaty palms.
-The most common words you hear from most passengers are f**k, and f**king hell!
-Your misus can sleep in the passeneger seat but everyone else is on edge gripping the door handle.
-Your heart beats a little bit faster when you turn the key.
-You spend that extra few seconds making sure you\'re perfectly comfortable before pulling off.
-A manical grin crosses your face as you see how late yoou can leave it before breaking for the next roundabout.
-While leaving roundabouts in the rain you find yourself saying "Steady, darling steady....."
-You treat the price gauge on fuel pump as a high score table.
-You seceretly love telling your friends that you did 4mpg on a track.
-You make passenegers nervous with your manic grin when they ask you about traction control and ASM.

Some soppy ones, it might just be me: :o

-You occassionally give the car a hug after a sprited drive to thank her for keeping you alive.
-You find yourself caressing the car while drunk or giving her a night night kiss as you walk past her on the way back from the pub.
-You occasionally stop while walking towards the car for a moment to admire the sheer brilliance.

Slight alteration there.

That one rings especially true with me.

Anytime I might have been a bit aggressive and been a little closer to the edge of grip, read beyond the edge, and I look over expecting to see a terrified young lady and she\'s sat there as if we were cruising along a straight bit of road at 30mph. Or asleep happily in the fixed back bucket seats that most people complain about after 10 mins....

It must be true! I love it mate, can\'t believe the difference after the spark plugs, took it out in the greasy wet Sunday and had a wail of a time trying to keep the damn thing straight, thought I was safe in 3rd till 7k WOT then the backs broke away, pure awesomeness. :chat

Can I just say Thanks mate!

Here is one to add:

You do the pre-flight checks (water, oil, battery power, fuel) before you turn the key then smile from ear to ear saying "it\'s alive" :D
