Title: changing suspension bushes
Post by: RobMatthews on October 20, 2010, 05:20:53 PM
How easy is it to press out the old bushes on an fd3s?

or is it a case of butchering them out?

cheers rob

Majority of them are cut the head off and pull through using some threaded bar and a socket on both sides. It stretches the bar a bit but its not too bad !

Been a while since I did mine though and did have access to a 10 ton press at work for any of the suborn ones !

Do you have any air tools ? I think some I wound up with an air gun. How big is the bar your using to wind the nut ?

Just done mine and soon found out that pressing them out even with a 20 ton press was not ideal.

So I used a hole saw, you can buy these in sets, that way you can find one that is near enough the right size. Pop the hole saw in your electric drill and drill through, the center will fall out, then use a hacksaw, place two cuts  5mm apart in the steel outer, (take care not to score the seat) use a picking tool or a screwdriver to push out the 5mm cut and hey presto!! all done just slip in the new bush. Time to do each one >10< minutes.
