Title: FC Series 4 turbo on 13B... power estimates
Post by: Jono FD3 on October 12, 2010, 02:20:59 PM
Guys, I\'ve got one of my "little" projects coming off soon, and I was after some tec info on the RX7 FC series 4 turbo..... If I was to put this on an FD 13b engine, what pressure could it be run at safely & what sort of power would it be able to push??

Don\'t worry, this is not going to be a single turbo conversion ;) it\'s going to be an experiment that could pay off and give great results..... or it could have the oppasit!! who knows.... I just want to be different :cool

i made 262 atw\'s with a series 5 turbo on a ported 13b series 5 engine running 0.6 bar,  boost peaked at 0.8 but as the turbo is small it dropped off very early but spooled really early and made very good torque.

I take it that is with a stock turbo?? Are they the same turbo or is the series 5 better? Seems to be very good power for 0.6 bar??? also are they the same as stock FD twins as to 0,9 bar sfe limit or do they let go earlyer??

Cheers

Series 5 turbo has better flow and 2 wastegate holes compared to the Series 4 turbo.

They will run at 0.9 bar, or go mental and build a hybrid with a different front end ;) I made 318 fly with 10 psi (0.7 BAR) with a hybrid turbo (t04b front end on the stock hitachi hot side). At 1 BAR it would easily make 360 fly, and I\'ve had 18 psi out of it before the water seal let go - just wish I\'d dyno\'d it first ;)

The FD turbo\'s are better at higher pressures than the Series 4/5 turbo\'s :)

looking at running one as a secondry turbo in the FD sequential setup ;) custom manifolds blah blah blah, just to be different! Over the 400 mark would be my target realy as close to 450 as I can!
