Had a replacement drivers door sprayed and have reassembled (I thought the same position for the glass as it was when I took it out) and fitted to the hinges on car.
Trouble is the window doesn\'t want to go up straight - it keeps tilting towards the front of the car. The only way I can get it straight is to pull the glass back into the guide every 1 - 2".
When lowering the window the glass apears to stay in the guides no problem
Any suggestions how to I assume re-align so that it operates as it should?
Cliff
with the door card off, you can adjust the glass runner. Towards the back of the door ( the slamming side) look for where the bottom of the glass channel bolts through the door and there is a bolt ( I think it\'s a 10mm) that you can undo and then alter the position of the rear glass channel. If this channel is slightly out, your glass will tip forward as you describe.
A good coating of silicon spray on the glass channels will help your windows fly up and down too.
Cheers for that Ian, I knew somebody here would have already done something like this.
What I find slightly strange is that before I stripped the door for spraying, the glass did traverse properly in both directions. All I can think is that I cleaned all of the components (including the guide seal) prior to re-installation - boy there must have been some dirt/grime there (well actually there was).
Will try this nxt weekend.
Thanks.
Cliff

Silly question but have you pushed the front strip into all the groove at the front ? Mine worked its way up and stopped the window closing properly !
Shaun
Not a silly question at all mate - I think I have but will check this together with adjustment setting when I\'m down there next.
Thanks for the tip.
Cliff
Well had a few minutes to spare last evening so I thought I\'d get the flash light out and have a look.
You\'re right again Ian - there are 2 bolts which secure the guide for the window during its\' closing operation. The 2nd bolt from the right is the main culprit and I found by slackening and forcing this downwards, the control bar (I assume) raises underneath the glass to tilt it rearward - tighten it up and hey presto!
Only thing is the glass run channel (seal) is also damaged - hadn\'t noticed previously so this is also playing its part in not allowing the glass to raise and close properly, therefore need to buy a new run channel.
I know I can acquire from Black Dragon but does anybody know a supplier in the uk?
Thanks.
Cliff

No, any old silicon spray will do..... the stuff you get in diy stores to spray on curtain tracks or the stuff that you spray on black car trim from the car accessory store.
Okay - just wondered.
Ta.
ps Is it just me or is it a bit quiet?
Quote from: CHC;721070ps Is it just me or is it a bit quiet?
Tis a bit quiet, Ive spent the last two hours reading Ians e-book.
Im almost a third of the way through it. Thats my excuse.
Keith...
Quiet it is.
No 1st Gens changing hands either, though I must have a record number marked up as being for sale. The trouble is, unless I get information about a new owner I can\'t say for definite that a car\'s been sold.....so it stays on my register as still being offered for sale.
There\'s 18 S3\'s and 12 S2\'s like that, all range of condition and prices. Wouldn\'t mind 2 or 3 of them myself (minters to look at them).
I keep most of the sellers details tucked away though so I can steer a potential buyer in any budget direction he/she wants to go.
Anyway Gus is going great. He wants new front pads fitting, (which I\'ve had on the shelf for a couple of years but the existing don\'t wear fast). The MOT is approaching but I\'m not going to do the pads before as everything is bedded in and he\'s stopping well. They are still OK but only just. Next Spring is the fitting time plus the usual 2/3 yearly brake and clutch bleed to stop internal corrosion of bores. My own internal corrosion of a bore proceeds a pace though.
Hey Ho, off to do nowt I go.
Never posted this before.....do you like the Reg guys?

Very nice David, just the job for the winter with these salty roads.
Save the best for sunny days!

nice plate, pity you can\'t transfer it onto the RX7.
The only answer is to mod the Merc.... I\'ve got a 1st gen rubber spoiler we can rivet to the bootlid and a couple of pop up headlights we can cut into the bonnet....ah yes, I can picture it now!
Ive got a couple of spare 12A\'s, we could soon rip that plodder out slip a 12A in there :D
And I\'ve got a spare sun roof if you need one - not glass though
:evillaugh
Seriously though Dave - nice motor, had a few mercs in days gone by (lovely cars), currently have a Rangie, should have bought one years ago as they are fantastic.

You\'re thinking of the new Nissan \'Juke\' Ian....yugggh!
Neither the missus or I have ever really wanted a private plate but when this Reg was on the dealer\'s available list, all lonely and forlorn in non-rotary-land, we just couldn\'t resist it.

That\'s about the size of it Keith, if bad weather beckons we take the mobile plodding air bag machine.
Gus does go out through the winter though, but only on dry days when the roads are clean.

A-Ha....It\'s got one. The CLK stopped production in Autumn 08 and by Spring 09 there were only a dozen or so cars left at the dealers. This one was in Hull and it\'s fully loaded, leather, command system, 3 pos memory seats (I think I\'m No. 1 position - keep forgetting), parktronic, AMG whatnots... AND....the blooxdy glass sunroof which clinched the deal.
Got the car as a run-out model for essentially the base price. The trouble is we do about 5,000 a year....what a waste really.
Still the kids would otherwise run to the BMW/Jag/Merc dealers clutching the Solicitors cheque for the inheritance. Might as well beat \'em to the draw.

sounds very nice!... we better not cut it up then or modify it with our 1st gen treasure.
I had a brand new CLS 500 Merc last year as a courtesy car when the Jag was in the dealers, a 5 litre V8, what a bloody thirsty thing that was.
I love Mercs, we\'ve got an E class estate for ferrying the family about in and even though it\'s done 285000 miles you still feel like it could take you to the moon and back.
I got a Merc teeshirt ..................

With a silly number plate ...............
seems to be a bit of a German bias going on here...!
But they do make good cars for running to the shops, buisness trips, holiday outings then when its FUN TIME out come the 1st Gen RX7\'s......... :yes:yes:3gears-rh

Don\'t blame you at all getting the reggo - at least it means something to you and our forum. That was why I was interested in the \'RZX 7\' in Limerick, now that was a good one but gone now.I\'ve had mine for 15 year so I\'ll just stick with my initials.

Bought quite a good one from a well known motorist accessory supplier (never met Hal yet but lots of Henries parked at the front). Sprayed - now quite smooth but still doesn\'t stay in the groove properly. Made numerous adjustments with the same result BUT it no longer catches the run channel seal as it did.Wondering whether perhaps there might be a loose connection in the mechanism behind the panel.Any suggestions guys?
if anyone want\'s a private plate, now\'s the time to buy one.... it\'s a buyers market out there at the moment. I\'ve got a mate who deals in cherished numbers and he hasn\'t had a sniff of a sale for months!
I got around that issue by naming my FB whatever was on the number plate:rollin
Sounds good to me tim.

did you manage to sort this Cliff?
Applied the silicone spray to all known parts (including my body parts too - tastes horrible but the skin has a lovely texture to it) and re-positioned every nut/bolt and runner known to man & beast.
Nearly there, not perfect yet but definitely 1000% improvement and I think with more periodic use will \'ride with wear\' and work out fine. Thanx for asking.
