OK its time to hold my hand up and also admit that I own an MX5... been meaning to sell it but just havn\'t got round to it.
Thing is with the bad weather on its way and the dreaded car melting salt soon to be all over the roads, I wonder about laying up my reasonably clean 99 for the winter and driving the 5 instead. Thing is I seem to remember reading somewhere, that our beloved rotaries do not fare too well if left for a while ????
Any genuine advice would be really helpful........
Cheers Al :cheers
I left mine for 4 months over the winter last year leaving just the battery disconnected and the handbrake off. She started on the button without any issues.
You shouldnt have any problems Al. As Neil said, maybe disconect the battery and leave the brakes off.
Put a good amount of fresh fuel in it when you start it up again :)

Me too!!
Its in the garage with the battery off already but its ready to go as soon as a dry, fresh day arrives lol. Once the snow turns up it will be stashed away until the salty roads dilute.
Ive heard of people filling up to oil to to the top of the filler neck whilst storing. I think i read it about clives rx4 which had had this done whilst in storage.
But definitely don\'t drive it in winter!!! especially if its clean!
When winter comes I always put the FD in the garage from October to February (MOT time) what I do is take the battery off, hand brake off and chock the rear wheels then just open the windows about an inch to stop it getting damp smell inside. I have do this since I have had it.
Then in about January change the plugs, oil, filter battery on charge then start it up! just to make sure everything is working fine temps and pressures are ok. Never had a problem to date you can see the youtube clip of mine of the first start up before going to Pip\'s for the MOT.
Fill up the engine with oil to the top of the filler neck is really long time years!
Hope this helps.
left mine outside in various states of dissemble for all of last winter. i just trickle a bit of 2-stroke in and hand crank it every so often.
Last 3 years I\'ve stashed mine in the winter with handbrake off/window open a snitch/battery disconnected and every spring she has fired right up no probs.
This is winter ......(cue music from Psycho shower scene)

I coat my car (and bike, when it\'s not been smashed to bits by stupid evil octogenarian attack pensioners ) in ACF-50 http://www.acf-50.co.uk/ which is, I gather, a wonder-protectant developed by the American Air Force to stop their fighter/bombers from corroding. It\'s unbelievable stuff, not only does it protect against corrosion, it actually strips back surface rust when it\'s already taken hold. It\'s waterproof too, so it stays where you spray it until you want to wash it off unlike contemporaries like Scottoil FS365 which are water based, so wash off in the rain :Hammer. And of course thin oils like WD40 wash away too, but also have the unwanted side effect of eating all the rubber seals in the suspension and bushes and suchlike even quicker than road salt.
Rinse the car down regularly (I use a 40l pump-up plant sprayer thing so it\'s quick and easy) and then you can just enjoy the car all year round :Thumbs-up
