Title: ***TRACKDAY SERIES - Oulton Park, Wed 17th Nov***
Post by: Casey on September 30, 2010, 11:24:34 PM
OK, seven of us had great fun at Cadwell (see HERE (http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=66073)) with our rotaries earlier this week, so time to post up the first details of the 3rd Trackday in the 2010 MRC Trackday Series at Oulton Park.
We will be booking this via our friends at Mazdaontrack (MoT), who are offering us a £5 discount off the £149 price for this day for FULL MRC Members. In addition, FULL MRC Members will be able to claim a £20 contribution via Lisa (Club Secretary) AFTER they have attended the day, so the price could be as low as £124.
For those of you eager to book, here are further details of the event, and the booking form - CLICK HERE (http://www.mazdaontrack.co.uk/oulton-park---november-17th-2010-370-p.asp) This is a full day Open Pit Lane event on the fabulous International 2.7mile circuit (8 corners).
NOTE: The noise limit for this circuit is 105dB.
The discount code to be entered at the checkout is the same one we have used throughout the year. "Regulars" will know it already, but please PM me if you need it, or have forgotten it.
Some of us have a way to travel to this circuit, so I will be investigating hotels for us to stay at the night before and possibly the night of the event, to avoid driving home fatigued. I\'ll post up some details later. If anyone knows of any good, cheap, hotels they can recommend to accommodate up to about 20 of us then please let me know!
If anyone has any questions, please post in this thread, or PM me.

Apologies, in my haste to post up I misquoted the price slightly (now amended in my first post). The price is £149, then £144 with the MoT discount for FULL MRC members :o:Hammer

it committed hara-kiri on the way home. as I stopped to get fuel on Wednesday morning at Horncastle it refused to start and had to wait 15-20 minutes for it to come back to life again.
I got home OK after it started but it\'s touch and go at the moment. Car booked in with Mazda to verify engine failure and hoping to get it replaced under warranty in time for Oulton Park (I\'ll drive non-stop for a weekend to clock the 1000 miles run-in if I have to).
If it was still summer I could probably try and see the romantic aspect of chilling in the sun for 20 minutes every time I go and visit my friends at one of the local Shell garages, being Autumn I\'d rather be at home snuggling up with one of the cats (against their will, of course). ;)
Worst case scenario I\'ll do the remaining track days in the Scooby, but I fancy that like a hole in the head. :D

Why is it taking so long to get your engine fixed Shaun?
I am facing an imminent replace or rebuild and am getting worried when I read that you have been waiting 2 months to have yours sorted out... :(
Fingers crossed for you!

Oulton is indeed a fandabidozi circuit. Druids is a very exciting corner, especially in the wet but then the whole circuit is exciting.
Crissy, why are you scared of your Scoobie?
Title: ***TRACKDAY SERIES - Oulton Park, Wed 17th Nov***
Post by: CrissyUK on October 04, 2010, 03:08:58 PM
The Scoobie is not as forgiving as the RX8 in any given situation. In fact, it seems to take great pleasure in magnifying any driving mistakes that I make. :D
It\'s been tuned for drag racing so it\'s awesome down straight roads (you can almost do wheelies if you "accidentally" tickle the turbo too much) but as soon as you get to a corner it gets tricky to handle if you are not 200% careful and even then it tries to understeer into walls, ditches, trees, etc.
The only creature comfort is power steering. No ABS or DSC.
Having said that it\'s great for off-road driving, little jumps here and there, scaring other road users with the noise and just general winter time poodling around the country lanes. If the RX8 is kaput I\'ll do Finmere in the Scoobie so you can see what I mean (then again you are going to tell me to man up)!! :D
Title: ***TRACKDAY SERIES - Oulton Park, Wed 17th Nov***
Post by: shaunwil on October 04, 2010, 05:06:38 PM
Is the suspension adjustable ? Maybe it needs looking at if it can\'t go round corners ! Surely the 4 wheel drive should help out much more than a rwd car ?
Shaun
Title: ***TRACKDAY SERIES - Oulton Park, Wed 17th Nov***
Post by: CrissyUK on October 04, 2010, 05:25:36 PM
It appears that I have stock suspensions so not adjustable but unknown after market drop links at the rear.
It\'s a great drive but requires more skills than the RX8 to take it round the track and back in one piece. I don\'t think I am that good yet, certainly not that confident. So if I have to take it to Oulton Park just stay away from me and you\'ll be fine! :D

:Thumbs-up Well done Chris!
I have been looking at local hotels and have emailed a few to confirm availability and price. A couple of pubs with rooms look the most promising, with B&B ~£40.
If anyone is on a really tight budget, there are 3 Travelodges reasonably close to Oulton, all of which were offering room only at £19/night early booking. The places I\'m looking at are closer, with off road parking and breakfast included.
I\'ve got one reply, awaiting the rest before I post up a recommendation. Will post up before the weekend.

Crissy, does that mean the dealer accepted it has failed and will replace under your warranty? I guess it\'ll be up to the dealer to send their findings to Mazda UK before you\'ll know more?

Got engine back today :D Bit more expensive than I expected but there was more work involved to getting it running again. Going to book in the next couple of weeks.
Hopefully I\'f I don\'t have any problems and the weather is dry I\'ll fire it up before the end of the weekend. Engine almost dressed now (only got block back home at 14:30 !) Still far bit to do before I can start the run in miles !

This is where it gets tricky: apparently the Nurburgring sticker and the Racing Brakes upgrade will have an effect on the warranty as the booklet clearly states that if you modify the car in any way or you do trackdays you are no longer covered.
And yes, they know I do them and even if I lied all they have to do is Google my name and they will find me on all sorts of websites including Driftworks (which I thought was cool) under "list of participants to xxxxxx track day/drift day", etc. A quick look on the owners club and they can even see me in action! A bit hard to deny the evidence. :p
It really is down to the dealer as to whether they grass me up with Mazda or not, if they do they lose the opportunity of making a few thousands in labour fees as my car is going to Haywards. So this is an opportunity for them to turn the situation into a win/win one.
I haven\'t spoken to Haywards yet as I am waiting for the final verdict next week but I have already saved their number on my phone. Still hoping that the dealer will allow me to claim under warranty though.
Depending on the timing for the repairs/replacement I may attempt the track day in the Scoobie but only if I am likely to have the RX8 fully operational fairly close to mid November in case something goes wrong with the Scoobie which would leave me car-less... then I WOULD have to buy an FD just to go out and about and you know I really, really, really don\'t want to do that... :Tongue1

Cheers guys. Looking at coming to do it in 3 stints of m6 to brum, up the m1 the down the m62. Going to partially premix as well because I forgot to tell pip about removing the omp so it\'s gone back on.
Got one fault to fix today. Got a plug to find to turn the low water alarm off between the 2 engine looms. Stock the undertray on and put back on the floor. Been a mad few days really. Taken about 16 hrs to go from engine core to back into the car !

ACCOMMODATION for Oulton
OK, I have found two small pub/hotels with 7 or 8 rooms, near the circuit in the village of Tarporley. The two places are;
The Foresters (http://www.theforesters.co.uk/)
and
The Crown Hotel (http://www.thecrownhoteltarporley.co.uk/70207/contact.php)
Prices per single room are ~£40 per night, doubles ~£55, with full English inc. There are twin rooms available for anyone who wants to share on a budget, £55 per room at the Crown, with breakfast inc.
From the research I\'ve done (Trip Advisor, etc) I slightly favour the Crown, but the two places are located very close to one another, so joining up for a meal on foot isn\'t a problem. Both places have off-road car parking that looks adequate. The Crown carpark looks slightly more hidden from the road for security.
If no-one has any other suggestions/comments, I\'ll book into the Crown this week. They currently have all 7 rooms vacant for 16th and 17th November.
If we go ahead with either of these I suggest, unless anyone can find a discount via a booking website, that we all book direct with these via the phone. I found email contact with both places not that reliable!
Anyone have any thoughts, or shall we go with the Crown?

booked oulton but the car broke down, moved it to silverstone and the water seals went on the way 5 miles from the track. Darin the bloke who runs it has been kind enough to move my dates for me twice. Its cool to be the only rotary. I got soo much attention at Anglesey (my only track day to date) Im making sure i have my AI on my boost acceptable and my timing conservative.
WE DONT WANT TO BE GIVING ROTARYS A BAD REP FOR RELIABILITY. BTW

It\'s good they\'ve allowed you to shift dates twice. Have a great time at Anglesey, maybe hope to see you at one of next year\'s trackdays so you can compare your RX-7 with the other 7\'s and 8\'s on track. On a dry circuit the 8\'s (with only 228bhp) will be left for dead on any straights, but on a wet, tight circuit (like Brands Indy) it\'s much more even!

I did wonder why a certain Volvo zoomed past when I was only cruising at 68 mph, LOL Only realised it was you after you pulled past and I noticed the MoT sticker and the row of tyres in the back.
See you at Oulton.

^^^^ Marcus, we\'ll all be there between 7.30 and 8.00am to sign on. The briefing is at 8.30 and tracktime starts at 9.00am. If you want to do passenger rides you\'ll need to "sign on", so best get there before 9.00 if you can, but there shouldn\'t be any major problem if you arrive later.
Look forward to seeign you there.

You shouldn\'t be too bad. What level of tune are you at ? It can be quite hard on brakes like cadwell. One of my favourite tracks - just after cadwell :D

Shaun - looking good, fingers crossed it all goes smoothly from here on!
I see there is a Bob Monkhouse signed up for this event on the MoT website with an RX-7 :Thumbs-up
Is Bob someone on the MRC forum? Apologies if I\'ve had brain fade (entirely possible!) but I can\'t recall anyone with that name popping up on here?
Anyone shed any light on who Bob is (forum name, if he is on here)?
Latest Oulton list, as I know it; Casey - \'8 PAID, Crown Hotel booked 16th &17th lennycarloff - \'7 PAID C J R - \'7 PAID, Crown Hotel booked 16th HypoThermia - \'8 PAID Rutz - \'8 PAID brads rex - \'8 PAID Nevryn - \'8 PAID Shaunwil - \'7 PAID BlueNev - \'8 PAID Clive - \'8 PAID - Crown Hotel booked 16th Bob Monkhouse - \'7 PAID Jang - PAID (ex RX-8 owner, now with Ford Focus ST :D) CrissyUK (possible)
So, that\'s 11 rotaries; seven RX-8\'s and four RX-7\'s so far.
There are still a few places left, but they\'ll be gone soon, so if you are thinking of going to this fabulous track, then don\'t leave it too late, or you\'ll be disappointed!

I know Shaun is piling on the miles to be ready. Just a quick update on my RX; Front discs removed and machined, both were warped ! Thankfully only a couple of thou\' off each to have them perfect again.
Managed to get the down pipe to seal against the turbo housing, but still getting used to the new diff. Hopefully we are now ready.

At the other track days were there more 8s than 7s as there is going to be at oulton? Is it that most 7 owners prefer drag racing and the 8 owners prefer track?

Good to hear yours is coming together.
Had a set back which I\'m not sure will balls everything up. Had a run into the lakes to put some miles on and the coolant buzzer went off for 3 secs about 10 miles from carlise up the A595. It went off so didn\'t really think much about it. Looking at the temps on the commander they where 64deg (just doping 60mph at 2.5k in 5th, tootling along) so didn\'t worry too much about it. Jumped onto the M6 at J43 and increased to 70. Coolant on the commander jumped to 100 so I slowed back to 60 and came off at next juction (services). Shut car off and then back on again to keep the electric water pump running without the engine on. Had no pressure so shoved some water in. Ended up bunging about 3lt of water in. Let the system run for quite some time and cooled it down. Refilled system and brought back up to temp only to find the patch line from the heater had split and was chucking coolant out. For how long during the trip is unsure ! Got the AA out because I had no tools and he fixed the split line with a better joiner (mine was a cut pipe !). Warmed the car up to check for no more leaks and it was ok. Cruised back from Carlise and temps where wandering between 78 and 90 on the commander. Jacked the front of the car up today and refilled the system with antifreeze. Bled the system and warmed it up. I can\'t see any champagne bubbles in the filler neck (just the odd big one from - more likely air in the main system). Washed my hands then stuck my hand in the exhaust gas when ticking over. Licked my hand and there was no sweet antifreeze taste to it.
Going to get Pip to do a proper check on my coolant system if possible to put my mind at rest that I haven\'t killed the water system ! God I hope its ok :(
I\'m a week of commuting miles then a service (oil and plugs) before its ready to be tuned (on 10th Nov).

There is usually more 8\'s than 7\'s at the trackdays I\'ve organsied for the past couple of years - exception being Cadwell in June 2009, where we had 4x 8\'s and 6x 7\'s.
I\'m not really sure why this is so. The 7 is great track weapon and it\'s really a place where one can enjoy the car in a way that\'s impossible (legally) on UK roads. Drag racing is great up to a point; straight line speed/acceleration has it\'s fans, but twisty tracks are more fun & challenging (my own opinion of course!!:Laugh)
One factor maybe the noise regs. A lot of 7\'s seem to have very loud exhausts? Having said that, several 7\'s running 400+ bhp don\'t have any problem with the 105dB limit operated at most tracks.
Another factor (maybe) is cost? Maybe 7 owners have to spend all their spare cash on keeping their cars running ;)
I\'d love to see more 7\'s at these trackdays and the MRC is doing everything it can to encourage members to come along. If anyone has any other ideas to encourage more 7 owners to take their cars on trackdays then please get in touch with me.

Shaun... First off you came to the Lakes (my play ground!) and didn\'t get in touch. Naughty naughty! Secondly, don\'t worry too much about the coolant hose leak. Mine used to leak from there for around 2 1/2 years. I always thought it was the heater matrix but it turned out to be the copper pipe that the coolant hose fits on. Took me ages to find it and my car regularly used to drop coolant and I\'d have to top it up when the buzzer went off. Granted mine wasn\'t a major leak but still don\'t worry too much.

Thats probably not far off true. If money wasn\'t tight at the moment for me I\'d have been at all of these track days. Maybe MRC filling stations would be a good idea where any rotary get 1/2 price fuel :)

Being a 7 owner and heavily in to drag racing I can offer strictly my own view that whilst the thrill and excitement of drag racing has its appeal, I find I get a longer \'buzz\' out of track days. Depending on you and your car, drag racing can equate to 10 to 15 seconds of exhilaration and a long wait in the queue to get back on the start line. Track days provides an amount of apprehension before venturing out on track, (will I stay on the black stuff or be the first on the recovery truck, etc etc), which is quickly followed by long periods of exhiaration as you learn the track, culminating later in the day (in my own opinion) of those very fast hot laps when you have the confidence and some knowledge of how to deal with the particular track. Personnaly I am hooked and will continue (cash allowing) to develop the car to enjoy next years events. (http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/images/icons/icon10.gif)

Hopefully, had a big air bubble in the engine this morning. Coolant alarm went off as soon as the thermostat opened ! Filled it up straight away and have just stuck another 2/3 lt in once it has cooled down !
Wished I had stopped straight away but the buzzer only went off for a few seconds and wasn\'t all that loud in the current setup. It lost a lot of coolant but I didn\'t let the engine sit off to get crazy hot without the electronic water pump. I\'m going to ring pip about it later tonight and see what he says. May end up going down to get the coolant system tested !
Fingers Crossed !
I think the noise is a major factor with the 7\'s. Plus alot are down south and don\'t really like to travel too far north. Maybe one of the days at rockingham or silverstone will get a better 7 turn out. Plus the weather is getting iffy and quite alot of the FD\'s are put away for winter, or for some major mods !

@ Shaun, Hope all is well mate with the coolant system and that you caught it in time I\'m sure things will be ok, just air locks hopefully.
As for the lack of 7\'s at track days, I think it\'s down to the cost of keeping 7\'s on the road at the moment, noise is a killer as well but the bid one is a Shaun says the most of them live down south and with the cost of fuel at the moment its taking a lot to fill you tank up for the day!
When I went to the ring last year I was the only 7 there which was a bit of a surprise. I know next year I will hopefully taking mine out on the track just wish I had the funds for this year.

Hopefully we should have some more 7\'s too if places are available :D

Never driven on a set of track tyres before, so looking forward to Oulton even more now, with the expectation of a lot more grip :)
Casey, I\'ll be interested to get some live feed back from you on the day. Are these the same as Crissy has fitted ? I\'m still weighing up which tyres to buy for next year. My main use will be through the drier months and track time, but we all know what a UK summer is like....wet ! Chris

^^^^ Chris, yes, they are exactly the same tyres as Crissy has been using on her RX-8. They have received good reviews online, and they are a LOT cheaper than R888\'s (-£60 per corner in the size I have). Unfortunately they don\'t come in the preferred 225/45/18 or 245/40/18 sizes, so Crissy and I are using the 235/40/18\'s, the closest size available.
Happy to let you know on the day how they feel! They are suposed to be very good in the wet, as well as in the dry :mmmm

SURPRISINGLY, there are STILL PLACES LEFT for this trackday next week.
If there is anyone out there still thinking about this, get in quick before the last few places are sold!
With TWELVE rotary powered cars already signed up for this, it\'s going to be a great day on track!

Whilst everyone is buying new tyres for their cars etc, me and my brother are investing in some jars of bravery, and pick and mix of driving talent, as everyone will be miles ahead of us, but we will only trying to better ourselves throughout the day and hopefully not push too far that we end up helping with cutting the grass. :Nono!

Grant, don\'t worry... you won\'t be alone. I have just dropped off the RX8 at the local Mazda garage for bureaucracy checks before formally admitting that she needs a new engine so I will be in the other car starting from scratch as it handles brilliantly but in a totally different way from the RX8.
I\'ll be the one swerving round corners and taking dodgy lines or doing silly things because sometimes I tickle the turbo at the wrong time (see this morning narrowly missing a wall coming off the A12) :D But I\'ll be loving every minute of it!
Oh yes, don\'t tell Malcolm, but I think Aston has sabotaged his wheels which apparently look like eggs at the moment so the Federals might not help him go even faster than he already does (hooligan). :Giggle

Don\'t worry guys. We are all trying to beat ourselves. Totally agree its not too important to be the first to the corner, but it is very important to be the one who can drive the car home again after a great day.

I bet he\'s got the sledgehammer out as I write this (hi Aston ;) :WaveBye ) . He easily overtook me at Cadwell when he changed to Toyo R888\'s, whereas I was easily overtaking him in the morning when we were both running on road tyres. I think he wants to keep his edge ;)
Grant, don\'t worry about it. It\'s NOT a race, it\'s about going at a speed you are happy with, and allows you to drive home at the end of the day (as Chris said). You don\'t have to drive right on the ragged edge to have fun on a trackday.
However, if you get the trackday bug, you\'ll be constantly looking at what improvements you can make to improve your speed around the track.
I\'m an example; started with a totally stock car; now have short-shifter, uprated brake disks and front calipers, coilovers, strut brace, and shortly, a set of track tyres. All these mods have improved the handling of the car on track, but I can still use it happily on the road too! The only problem is that the driver has a distinct lack of talent :o

Got to agree with the above. Getting back in 1 piece is the main thing. Only go as fast as your comfortable with, you\'ll get quicker and quicker as the day goes on. Oh and be careful for the first half an hour and the first half an hour after lunch. Thats when most of the accedents happen apparently.

Ah... the mad half hour when everyone wants to see an empty track in front of them. It never works out. :rollin
All the above is good advice and there will be plenty of passenger rides available as well if you want to experience the circuit without the stress of driving. Pit lane discussion is a good time to catch up and think about what you\'ve just done, and get ideas for what you might want to do on the circuit next.
Quite a few of us will be "first timers" at Oulton so we\'ll be working it all out as well...
Ian.

Hmmm... I thought you went through half your pad at Silverstone and the other half at Cadwell (June).
For my part I seem to be building up a collection of nearly finished pads - the ones from Cadwell II have about 2-3mm of wear left on the indicator (from new). Not enough for another track day :o

Actually, you are correct. It was Mallory where I managed to use a fresh set of "trackday special" pads in just one trackday. Fresh on the night before, then past the wear bar at the end of the day :o
The set I\'ll be using at Oulton will be those I started (new) for Cadwell in Sept. Checked them at the weekend and they\'ve got ~5mm left to the wear indicator. I\'ll have a spare set of pads with me though, just in case :D

They have always had these sizes, it is just the 235 40 18 is closest in diameter to the 225 45 18. 245, you could start getting some clearance issues.
Also I wouldn\'t count on Camskill having them as the guy with the UK rights does not like them one bit.

Hey Clive how many spares sets of racing brake pads you bringing? All this talk of break pad wear worries me my fronts looked quite meaty when i looked yesterday the wear marker plus same depth in fresh pad.
Title: ***TRACKDAY SERIES - Oulton Park, Wed 17th Nov***
Post by: Casey on November 15, 2010, 09:09:54 PM
Tom, I\'ve got about the same on my fronts. I\'ll have a spare set of ET500\'s front and rear, but I might need them myself. If not and you need them, they are available, if Clive hasn\'t got a spare set that is! I will be keeping a close eye on wear throughout the day, after my "bare metal" day at Cadwell :o. From Cadwell 2 experience, I reckon if I don\'t stay out more than 15 minutes max per session then they should last the day and have some left to get home. I\'m sure that I let them overheat at Cadwell 1 and this led to an excessive wear rate.
They\'ll certainly need changing before Brands though!

It\'s odd that your using so much pad at Cadwell. I know there are some heavey braking parts of the track, but at Cadwell 1 I used old stock pads that were crap. I cooked them on the day but they still had meat on at the end to drive home on. At Cadwell 2 I used brand new Racing Brake ones off Clive and they held up really well no excess wear and Im still running them now.
I think me and Crissy must need to try harder!
Ade

Well, just got back home, having stayed an extra night in Tarporley. Glad I did, I could never have driven the 4+ hours home after a day on track which required intense concentration due to the conditions!
Grateful thanks to all the rotary guys (and girls!) who came along to make this a very enjoyable event. Despite the atrocious weather, everyone I spoke to seemed to be having a good time on the day (despite some of us having soggy socks for much of it). The company and food both nights at the Tarporley "Rising Sun" pub (how appropriate!) was excellent:Thumbs-up
"The Crown" was not as good as I had hoped (and what\'s with no marmalade for breakfast 2 days running!), but at least my bed was very comfortable and the room quiet.
Special thanks to Pip for the "Pip\'s tips" during the Pace laps, and to Nick D for invaluable tuition later in the day. My in car video (I\'ll try and process and post some later) showed I went from 3m00sec laps to consistently doing 2m47sec by the end of the day. Crap times, but as least I did improve! No idea what times Clive was achieving but, as usual, he was really flying and showed just what an 8 can do with a skillful driver at the wheel.
What a great circuit! I now now what everyone was saying about being careful at Druids. Greasy was an understatement throughout that corner. Even way past the 2nd apex there were undulations on the track to the left side which punished over exhuberant application of power.
I think I eventually managed to at least say hello to everyone during the day, except I seemed to have missed Grant somehow - apologies Grant:o
Great to say a brief hello to Matt and hear his superb 3 rotor on track, what a beautiful sound :god
I\'m definately going to get Oulton onto the trackday event calendar next year, hopefully during the summer when we might just get a dry track to play on.
I\'m looking forward to seeing many of you again in a few weeks time at the final trackday event of the year at Brands Hatch. Last time I looked there were a few places still available due to cancellations......:)

No Shaun, I was the slowest as I wasn\'t in either of my cars and had to learn how to drive NickD\'s awesome MX5 as well as learning a very wet circuit. Remember that it took me over 4 hours to notice the lake by the "lakeside straight-ish bend"!! :rollin And I thought it was chivalrous of you to hang on behind me for a while before taking off on the straight after the hairpin. :Thumbs-up
I still enjoyed the day very much and eventually found the courage to boot it in places but never all the way round as my heart sank every time I saw someone in the armco or in the kitty litter.
I didn\'t think Clive was out on the track yesterday but then realized that I had just blinked and missed him going past me ;) I would have loved to see him take on one of the Lamborghini\'s but I probably blinked again and missed all that action too!! :Laugh
Let\'s hope for better weather next time, it\'s such an awesome track that I\'d gladly do the 450+ miles round trip again just to have another go.
\'till next time...

Not a lot to add really, had an excellent day at a superb circuit :D
The amount of rain coming down through the day did seem to decrease and the puddles of standing water seemed to get smaller, but the track never dried out. A big thanks to Nick for the tuition on the circuit and I did enjoy chasing down some of the other cars on the circuit (when I wasn\'t being caught myself). My own measurements came out at around 2 min 45 for some consistent laps in the early afternoon.
Great to catch up with some old friends, new, and not seen for 3 years :D

Many thanks to all who came along to Oulton and Malcolm for getting this up and running,
I had a really good day yesterday finding the track was quicker than I thought initialy, despite appalling rain I found myself hitting 9400 on 3 sections in 4th each lap, needing to feather out the throttle on the pit straight as the diff gearing was wrong to shift to 5th, mind you I have always liked the wet as it\'s a great equalizer, seemed quite bizzare though overtaking Lambo\'s and outdraging Scoobys, Evo\'s and "race cars" out of chicanes in a 2 wheel drive RX-8 though !! :Giggle
That said though the credit must go to essentialy having "wets" fitted with my Yoko Sports, the traction control and stability control system of the RX-8,that I exploited fully rather than the slow old git waggling the steering wheel :3Confused
As an aside Malcolm and myself instigated this years "track day season" not only for the track driving, but also the social side of things and found it great to not only spend time with members the night before and at the track but also to catch up with people like Dave Nixon, Bob Monkhouse and Pip (WGT) etc, proving the worth of this type of "Rotary event" as a great opportunity for Rotary enthusiasts just to get together.
Here is a pic of Matts tripple to show just how wet it was !

We will definately be coming to another track day next year, don\'t think we will make brands due to work!
Sorry for not speaking to everyone but I did speak to as many people as I could and about my rx4 which I\'m happy people are really interested in.
Must say a big thankyou to Clive for taking me around the track as a passenger. All I can day is that when Clive asked me if I was alright on one of the laps I said " yes absolutely brilliant apart from my cheek bones hurting from smiling from leaving the pit to leaving the track"!!!!!

I was with the Mitsubishi Lancer Register MLR group. A few of the guys there running Evos with Proxies and wings with 500 brake were saying they found the track too scary. A good few evos went off. I stayed on the track all day with my twitching arse and huge exhaust fireballs. Id like to say it was down to my pure driving skill but it was more like i was going slower than everyone through the corners and i was lucky.
The evos ruled that track. I couldnt really keep close. Having said that there was some serious serious machines there. Its a hard track compared to Anglesey. Where are the straights? Rear wheels lighting up after druids over the humps.
To be fair to the rotary though on the start/finish straight. I put lengths between myself and a hayabusa kit car and a GTR.
Druids is a horrible corner. all the cars were doing 40 through there even the GTR and the Evos. I dont think ive been on a corner that slippy on a public road.
There was only about 30 minutes around 3 to 3.30 pm where the track started to dry and i would dare hit the blind hump before cascades at high speed.
Our day didnt start until 11 because of dense fog.
Right i need a huge rear wing and some toyos :)

Not cheap but have a look at Yokohama Sports I say this because I was supprised at the grip I found from these at both Oulton and Mallory and was turning into the very slippery double apex after the bridge at 96/97 mph,
I am now on my 4th set of tyres on the RX-8 in the search for a tyre that suits me and the car, tried 040 & 050 Bridgestones plus Falkens and couldn\'t get the feel I wanted.
I have always felt the FI is better than the Toyo\'s so if you don\'t like the F1\'s, personaly I think you will waste money.
Yes I have an RX-8 but know from my FD\'s that both have very similar balance and handling characteristics, indeed look under the front of an FE and an FD and you will find its the same type of double wishbone/ strut/ roll bar suspension
Hope this helps
BTW was that you in the black wide body FD ?

Not sure yet, depens on whether I can chop and change the \'pumped\' out wing extensions to suit the car without spoiling the lines.
The extensions add about 75mm front and rear to the current wings.
