hi guys, im running a street port and to4e, achieved 399fwhp/331rwhp at reworx on standard injectors b4 they maxed... with all the needed upgrades what is the best i can hope for from this turbo?? im really chasing in the region of 400 at the rubber...
cheers
400 at the wheels on a t04e, not big enough dude.
Need a Garrett T04R or Greddy T78
my concern with going with bigger is the lag, i live on the isle of wight and there isnt a motorway in sight lol, what is the best the to4e could achieve with the correct set up?
Your probably getting around the limit for a T04E, maybe creep to 350 at a push.
yip 350 at the wheels at most on pump fuel and 1.2 BAR, maybe 370 at the wheels at very high boost if you are using water injection
wow thats dissapointing... u would imagin it would achieve more than an extra 20rwhp cosidering it made 331 at 0.8 bar! ive looked at the to4s... as this will pretty much bolt on to my current setup! would the s be ample for my target 400whp with minimal lag??
basically what turbo would u recommend for as minimal lag as possible but still comfortably achieve 400rwhp?? the lag is a big issue where i live on the isle of wight... thanks for any input!
why dont you just go for a bigger tub like t04r or gt35r etc then just use a smaller hotside housing of .81 or .91 similar?
My T04S never came close to 400 rwhp even at ~1.3 bar and froma big streetport. It was 408 flywheel, about 340 wheel hp if that helps. Get something like a T04z for the power and cos it\'s ball bearing it should spool faster too
is the car a daily? You could always go down the weight saving route instead?
Or you could run a bigger turbo and get a propper twinsroll manifold and turbine housing, then just look at making your set up as efficient as posible. Think this would be fairly costly though, don\'t think the lag would be less than the current set up though
I ran a Greddy TD07-25G on my last FD, mild street port, bang on 400rwhp at 1.0bar with full boost under 4000rpm
currently its my daily driver and i love that fact, wanted a 400rwhp daily driver with as little lag as possible... it already has a street port which is the reason it made 400 flywheel with the to4e!

did u find it ran out of puff higher in the rev range??
No, pulled hard all the way to the limiter, but think this was about the limit the turbo could take. Upped the boost but didnt make any more power so back it off again.
so what sort of 0-60 and 1/4 mile times would be estimated in the different t04e, and t04z turbos be?

you cant quote times from just a turbo alone, supporting mods, porting and a decent tune are the key

My T04E powered FD owned Adas T04R :Thumbsup!
but adam does weigh a metric ton k ;)

was that due to lag or traction lol??

Rampant gayness, I reckon :Giggle
dude, don\'t get bogged down chasing power figures! WOuld have thought 330 at the wheels would be more than enough for the roads of the isle of wight!!? I think going to a bigger turbo your just going to be moving out of the powerband and not get the most of the car.
Whats the rest of the spec your running? Your money could be better spent else where and gain you a quicker car...
just out of interest TomTom, what hotside a/r are you running on your t04e?
Here is some T04S love for you boys, this is power at the hubs as well. Take your best guess for engine power but it was only 18.3psi gauge pressure also done many years ago.

My current car runs a T04Z in legal (for Australia street trim with full catalyst exhaust) http://www.riceracing.com.au/RiceSPGallery.htm :3gears-lh

I have a vast list of times from my VBOX3i system, along with power reports live in cars during tests, you can compare all kinds of set up :WaveBye

Good twins set up cars will do under 4 seconds 0-60mph as will T04 set up cars on std 13B-REW motors, but traction is your biggest hurdle with Mazda in true street running on street rubber.
Fit sticky tires and do it at a drag strip and you will run high 2 second 60mph times *but totally irrelevant in real world*
Well set up street trim cars on road rubber and on normal roads will do low 12\'s to high 11\'s!
On a drag track with backwards timing light systems to measure! you will run much quicker - 0.3 seconds! and with SLICKS and Preped track you will do 10\'s!
Of more importance is the real measure of power, and the qtr mile can sort out the men from the donkeys just by looking at the terminal speeds you get if you know the weight of your car *actual weight as run*.
120mph = quick road car!
anything in between is sweeter than a fat chick holding a bucket of KFC!
130mph = super quick road car!

1994 fd3s, street port, to4e, hks induction, blitz nurspec R, unknown 3" downpipe, hks 68mm waste gate, front mount intercooler rather than v, unknown racing rad, walbro 225 pump and standard injectors.... (im aware this is shocking and a secondary rail, bosch 1680s, fpr and bosch 044 coming soon!!) only running 0.8bar mapped by reworx!
ive been looking at other options, such as an uprated throttle body, would this make a worthwhile difference? and is there anything i can change on my turbo itseld like housings etc?? because i agree that if i go bigger it just wont be overly practical for the island!
some pics of my car and engine bay on my facebook!

to be honest i couldnt tell u dude, i brought the car with the conversion and work all done, all i did was run it in and have it mapped...
is there potential to upgrade it to achive more power/response?
mate your car is wkd. once you get the fuelling done that would be the ultimate road car in my eyes. I think TB will not really make a difference. You would be better of striping it.

I doubt it.
What you should focus on is a good reliable ignition system, some water injection (allows you to make any power your turbo can deliver! with 100% reliability on normal old PETROL) and have it
mapped to perfection.
^^ +1
..Tom please don\'t consider a different turbo until you\'ve at least tried clearing a bar on the T04e! :O

no worries dude, im gona sort my fuelling out and get it remapped b4 i even consider anything else...!
is there anything else i can do/add/upgrade to increase performance?? that doesnt involve me stripping my daily driver lol
