Title: Hid\'s
Post by: slater1982 on September 26, 2010, 06:57:29 AM
After getting increasingly annoyed with the 2 candle powered headlights in my FD, ive decided to go with the HID route, only thing is, ive seen on the DfT website that they\'re not technically legal unless you fit self levelling (and we all know thats not really an option!!)

So just wondering, do MOT testers tend to actually care or just see yes, its got working headlights! so if they do, anyone know of a tester in the nuneaton area that wont mind?? :Giggle

i\'ve passed 1 mot with the rex with hid (not self leveling)
and a micra passed mot also non self levelling.

i think as long as the beam pattern is not too dispersed then you should be ok.

should be fine with an MOT unless it\'s one of those jobsworth places that fail you on silly things that arn\'t even a fail. Even if its a strict place, they can\'t test it without test driving the car which i\'ve never seen done

other than that if the police pull you over (which is very unlikely) they have no way of checking and I doubt if you get tested at the side of the road they\'d even check that

Can\'t see how majority of new cars are legal now a days. Worrying when you get dazzled in the middle of the day ! Gets right on my nerves !

I\'m always shocked by the number of cars that have headlights out or rear lights or brake lights etc.

I have projectors in mine and they passed :D

I think by law you\'re supposed to have headlight washer jets for HIDs as well as self-levelling gubbins. Which would clearly be a bit tricky on pop-up headlights :3Confused....

My HIDs passed the MOT no problems, only thing the guy moaned about was my numberplates. Like it fduking matters whether I\'ve got a postcode on them

HID\'s on mine too, & never had a problem... 2 mot\'s & straight through every time! but then I\'m running the projector units so the controle the light pattern a little better.

Recently passed an MOT with HID\'s. Just got an advisory referring to \' a slight blue tint\'.
Has anyone actually failed a test because of these lights? Personaly I would not want to be without them as they are so much better and in my opinion, safer, than the stock \'candles\'.

I think the law is they have to have all the self leveling and washer stuff if fitted as standard..

Hence if fitted as after market, I don\'t think they need to comply with that lot so long as the beam pattern/direction/etc is correct..

I think anyway...  :-)
