Title: Our oldest member yet??
Post by: Lisa on September 23, 2010, 09:03:34 AM
Yesterday John joined MRC as a full club member he will be 82! in December how cool is that, but the best thing is guys he has a 1st Gen in silver.

He is not registered on the forum, but I will advise him to do so, so he can enjoy the benefits and the interest in this section. :Thumbs-up

Excellent - welcome aboard John !

Let\'s hope petrol prices are not too high when some of us reach the golden years so we can still enjoy rotary motoring :cheers

Dibs is trying to say we older guys have the original massive mirrors like cricket bats \'cos we oldies can\'t focus into the titchy litle mirror thingys they get from Aus. Those little mirrors must be like wearing a thong to go out in! Give me M&S oldsters any day......
                                                                                                                                            :3gears-rh

Is that John W Lisa? I\'ll put my email and home phone on a PM to you and John is welcome to ring me if he wants any help navigating the forum.....:Typing

Meanwhile here is September\'s 1st Gen list of cars breaking up and down the country.

If John wants me to print and post it I will be happy to if I can have an address.

It\'s my guess that Series 2\'s (like John\'s) will have the same mirrors as later Series 3\'s. I\'ll be surprised if they don\'t.

By the way I thought Eric was the oldest member?  Older than John.

I have a spare S2/S3 mirror, but I don\'t think the electrics work - free if you want it :)

Thanks mate....I\'ve spoken to John now, it\'s not the John I thought. This John\'s up in York area and it\'s the passenger mirror for an S2 that he wants.

He\'s not got one at the mo\' and he\'s not fussed about the electric adjust bit.....he\'s just going to poke it about with his finger....Bless....

He\'s had the car from new..

I\'ve sent him the Breaking Cars List by email....yes, he\'s emailed up OK.

Cliff, If you don\'t mind I\'ll pass on your email to John because I don\'t think he\'s up and running for Forum viewing......I\'ll tell him that if he\'s stuck you have a Passenger Side Mirror (non electric) for the cost of the postage. Hope that\'s what you mean. I\'ll stress that he should chase up the breakers first.

I have your e mail

Thanks mate....Dave.

I have a passenger one too - electrics work in one direction (not up and down) although that could have been a wiring issue???

offer is there if it\'s needed :)

They don\'t make keyboards like they use to.
This reminds me when I started working on JAZ to replace clutch master cylinder and told my wife the 1st Gen Series 2 interior was made smaller than the Series1 because it was a tighter fit.  You can imagine the response and I can assure you it wasn\'t to agree - something about a big fat *********.  Trouble is she was\'t far far wrong, never mind hey, all about growing up I say.

Mixed mirrors came with car. I picked up a pair of replacement doors from Stu in Tamworth and fortunately there was still an original \'electric\' on the passenger side...so no sooner said than done, wham...changed. Perhaps it is/was an \'Ozz\' that I took off  :3Confused but John says that he was pleased with the photos of it and come Monday he should have it.  Either way I say it is good team(club) work and we should work together and help each other out wherever possible.
Speaking of which.....anybody got a spare switch to alter between nearside/offside mirrors? My switch is for drivers only and I\'d like to loop in the nearside electrically.

I\'ve got one too but I think the guys have sorted you out now.
If you need the connector and the 1st 12" of loom let me know.... it might help you to wire it up.

It was going to be Scotland but the Mrs got food poisoning (not pretty) so we spent most of the time at home but did manage a few days in Angelsey.
Did manage a bit of 7 time with Ian.

Sorry to hear that Keith - I trust your good lady is over the worst and a full recovery is in order.
A change is as good as a rest so at least you managed to get away and a small bonus having some 7 time.

Yes - couldn\'t believe my luck. I disconnected the plug connector and tried it loose first just to be sure.  I\'m glad really \'cause didn\'t want to start stripping dash board/facia out again.
