Title: 1st coolant flush - ratio?
Post by: adamrogers3091 on September 21, 2010, 09:52:51 PM
apologies for another newbie question :Typing, going to be flushing the coolant system for the first time soon and wondered if someone can recommend the ration of coolant to water as it\'s coming up to winter... also can someone recommend a coolant as well please? :3Confused

Thanks a lot.

Hi Adam, I\'ve used Bluecol now in all sorts of cars since.....oh lets say 1964 ish. Never had a problem and it seems to suit the 12A engine in the FB down to the ground.

I change every 2 years or so and when I do the coolant comes out clear and blue, more or less as it went in. I buy 5 litres at a time as it\'s harder to find these days.

They say antifreeze is poisonous to cats and they like it! So keep it secure.

Ratio 40% coolant to 60% water. To little and poor frost protection; too much and cooling suffers a bit.

They also say use distilled water but I don\'t.

Dave

If its an FD, (not sure about FBs and FCs) remember there are two points to drain it from to make sure you get it all out.

1) Bottom of radiator
2) Bottom of block

I use Prestone hard to find here, Only place I could get it was from ebay. Our friends from across the pond seem to love the stuff so thought I\'d give it a bash, also its a cool luminous yellow!
