Hopefully we will have some really quick rx7\'s at rotorstock but thinking about it lastnight, we don\'t currently have any sub 11 sec rx7\'s on normal street tyres. The quickest is Geff reworx at 12.3 123 mph I think at elvington last year anything quicker than that has been using drag tyres. Hopefully at rotorstock this will change. I \'ve also lined a up a race at rotorstock against a 450 bhp mr2 turbo with NOS:D that should be a good battle.
RGDS
Depends how you define fast ;)
If your talking about totb at Elvington, then everything was on road legal tyres and I dont remember mention of anyone using a drag radial. Maybe they did though.
Id just like to see a fast track car, but thats even further off than a fast drag car I think :(
Geffs was on the Dunlop road legal race tyres.
You can get road legal drag race tyres too so that would be the way to go to do both things,be road legal totaly and be quick.
Kind regards
Carl

There are already fast track cars here, think of Dave Nixons RX3 and Stacy Vickers RX7 1st gen, they both won their championships last year!
Also there are a couple of 3rd gen RX7\'s that are near completion for racing here.
Kind regards

I forgot them two, probably because they dont post here and I natrually think of the 3rd gens. Quite right though, they are quick.
Brian, I\'ve just spoken to James and it looks like they\'ve got his NOS running properly on the MR2 now so the race is definately on!!! :D :D :D
Should be a wicked day out, oh as I mentioned he\'ll be using track slicks on the rear.
best regards
Steve
only person i can think of who could be quicker at rotorstock is Ross, he\'d only just finished his car and clocked 11.6 secs, so by rotorstock might be quicker!!!
Not sure which tyres hes using though:(
Oh great just what I wanted to hear.
For those who don\'t know I have arranged a race against a 450 bhp mr2 turbo with nos and racing slicks:D my white rx7 single turbo jap tyres:D I cannot wait.

Should be interesting, Brian!
Have you seen the video of the 700+ bhp MR2 attempting a launch - here (http://www.japmobiles.com/stuff/700bhp-mr2.asx)
wow that\'s a bit scary. Saying that I might be doing the same in mine if i\'m not careful be good for the camera anyway.

I\'ve just told my wife about this race and she says the mr2 is gonna whoop me why did I pick I race that i\'m never gonna win.
Just the kind of backing a man needs from his wife.:(

yeah i\'m still looking

for a wife who can build me a 9 second car & then flash her ample & beautiful baby feeders to put the opposition off.....lol

"ARE OUR CARS THAT FAST?"
To answer your original question i would say as far as road cars go then yes but when talking serious power drag cars then no.
I think for the rotaries to be serious power dragsters you gotta have more than 2 rotors, which brings me to the point of our cars being 1300cc\'s.
We cant compete with 1000bhp skylines and supras as they have more to play with, the rotors are too sensitive to boost to that power range. Giv we can rev to 8000-9000 rpm but with high power hikes we cant compete. I think this will be revealed at rotorstock, non of the rx7\'s will be anywhere near the big power invitational cars?
Might be wrong but as far as i\'m aware of the rotaries running Ross has the most powerful one running 11.6, i believe some of the invitational\'s will be running 10secs and below:(
But on my way home from the gym blasted a scoobi to shite!!!!:rollin
It\'s all relative; yes the UK rotary\'s arent competitive at the mo - but they will be in the nearish future hopefully. 1308cc is enough; there are LOADS of <10 second rotors about the world! You can build rotors to take 45psi - we just need to do the R&D to catch up with the rest of the world unfortunately. Look at aus; they were running 9s on carbs 15 years ago. Conversely we probably had fewer than 15 rotors on the road in the UK at the same time!
Just have to be patient. RS in 5(!) years and things will be different! We\'ll catch up and overtake the 4x4 brigade - honest :rollin
But the rotaries are not that fragile in my opinion and don\'t need a 3rd rotor to compete against skylines etc. If I threw as much money on a 3rd gen as these guy\'s do on their 1000bhp skylines etc the rx7 would be quicker. Also these high powered cars are not semi daily drivers like most rx7 owners are and they have to be rebuilt frequently otherwise they would go pop after not too many runs.
Guess all shall be revealed this weekend. Hopefully will see some rx7\'s hit 11\'s in street trim and the 10\'s for the ones in slicks.

Scooby Si...I\'d just stick to looking for a wife !! I\'ve seen what you look like !

At the risk of being flamed by Ross here, Tim\'s Gen 1 did 11.9 and it was running without NOS or water injection (both of which I believe are now in place) also the turbo was on it\'s way out, now rectified. I may be in for some slaps, but I\'d say that Tim\'s car could drop into the 10s! Not bad for a 22 year old car I say!

Hell yeah! :)
I guess it all comes down to money in the end, if you have a decent base car to begin with and have the money to fund a project then anythings possible.
If i had the funds would i race the strip??? damn right i would:rollin but wont risk damaging car without major funds to back up problems.

Of extremely fast (as opposed to just very fast) rotary engined vehicles is not just one person having enough cash to throw at one.
It\'s three fold.
1: Convetional egines are more prevalent, several times more prevalent. So most development money goes into makig them work better, wether it be better economy or more power, it\'s not just company A investing $XXX while company B invests $XXX in something else, it\'s Companies A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H... investing their cash in developing the reciprocal piston engine. Meanwhile, you have Company M investing $X on the rotary engine at the manufacturer level. FWIW I would think that Mazda invests significantly more $$$ in piston engines than the rotary engine, gotta make the bread somehow.
2. The rotary engine is effectively banned form most forms of motorsport. Why? Probably because if given half a chance, it will happily run away from most anything else. It\'s not conventional, it doesn\'t fit in the rules set for other engines so ban it! As a result, very little motorsport capital is invested in the rotary engine. Yet another area where cash is spent to glean that extra horsepower. Even the engine budget for one year in an F1 team would work wonders for the Wankel. If it were an ongoing commitment, a 1,000hp RX-7 would not be even the slightest bit unusual, in fact it might become old hat.
3. The RX-7 is not destined to be a mega-horsepower animal. None of the rotary engines animals are destined to be big HP monsters. Having driven a standard R32 GT-R then a 700hp one immediately after it, well, it turned a grocery getter into a knuckle dragging neanderthal. Sure it was stupid quick, and you would still have to try really hard (or be a complete dolt) to make it go ugly, but finesse was definitly not it\'s forte. And it felt heavy to boot, pretty strange when dealing with an AWD car, but adding all the extra power, plus the drivetrain to cope, brakes to stop it and all the things to maintain the hp added something and took away any edge. Would I own a Skyline and take it over 500hp? Is a the Pope a catholic? Sure, it was a bludgeon, but it\'s nice to have the biggest bludgeon on the block. :)
The 7 as a rule is not comparable. This might just be my opinion, but getting over 500hp in a 7 means some pretty serious surgery if you want to have and keep that power for more than a few hundred miles. The little 13B just can\'t keep up that kinda output without losing precious hours off it\'s life. Sure, you can get the big numbers, but it\'s not going to hold together as long as a Supra with the same hp. Have a 26B, and you could drag 1,000 hp out of the thing and it would probably make the 1000hp Supra look like a shooting star.
And it all boils back to where the development $$$ are spent. Right now, the Wankel doesn\'t have all that time and effort invested to make it tick in a big way. Maybe in a few years, that knowledge will be found and the lowly little Rotary will be able to make anything quiver with fear, but not right now. Sure, it makes most things out there in the big bad world take notice and pay the due respect, but there\'s always going to be that big Skyline or Supra, maybe the quick Sylvia or WRX that will whack the 7 down a notch. It\'s not a bad thing.
After all, even the fastest vehicle has to turn a corner as some point... ;)
BTW, I always wonder how an extra 10mm of width on each rotor would affect things. Or maybe lose 10-20mm, but add extra rotors to compensate. Maybe a 5 rotor with 50mm wide rotors. a Twin with 100mm wide rotors. Maybe larger housings for a \'big block\'.
I also wonder what something with 4 or more rotrs, PP and packing big capacity per rotor would behave like. Say a 4 rotor with 4,000cc. It would have to be something that most anything would be afraid of.
Just thinking out loud.
P.S. Been driving around in a Honda Torneo. Kinda like a small Accord. I think I like it. I NEED TO GET A ^%$&^&% CAR RIGHT &$^%$^&^% NOW G@D DAMMIT!!!
Very good points there Schtoo, most cars on the road are wary of the rx7, when it comes to 1/4 shoots outs we normally take the back seat.
Still i\'ve not been beaten on the road yet!!!! 460bhp.
