Title: Issue after intake manifold removal
Post by: JasonC on September 18, 2010, 12:51:44 PM
Started the car after removing the uim, the car seems to be rev up and down between 2-3000rpm! Video here http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10495823/rx71.mov

Disconnected the throttle cable and it still does it, i think its the double throttle actuator? As it seems to be moving here, see video number 2...

Obviously connected something up wrong, but any ideas? I was positive put everything back in the right place.:xconfused

There is a solenoid that controls that bit of kit. Diagram of whole system is found here :

Ahh cheers mate,  this valve here? http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10495823/Mobile%20Photo%2018%20Sep%202010%2013%2018%2028.jpg

Cant see it that well in the pic but one of the end hoses is almost split off!

Feels like its all one piece, can you replace the hose or do i have to buy a whole new unit?

Replacing the broken tubing made no difference, so any ideas welcome...

Ok, so i disconnected the vacuum hose to the the double throttle actuator and it still does same thing (the reving up and down). So nothing to do with the actuator now...

If you took off the whole UIM then look under it at the back, there is a green plug I think, you may have missed it off. Or you might have a knacked gasket that is letting in too much air hence the changing idle. Best advice is to take it off and check everything, you may pinched a vacum pipe underneath.

Erm yeah the gasket is knackered actually... got a new one on its way!
Cheers.

Bit of an update - if i manually move the actuator for the double throttle so that the butterflies close, i can hear air being released from somewhere around/under the uim. Can anyone tell me if this is normal or could this be the leak?
Cheers.

Sounds like a leak. Have you plugged the vac sensor back into the back of the uim ?

Did you split the throttle body from the uim when it was removed ? Could be a leak there too !

Sorted! It was the the gasket at the the throttle body causing the leak.
Cheers for the help guys. :)

Quick Question did you get your gasket from the dealer or off the internet ????

Got it from rotaryart mate, pretty quick.

I did phone my local Mazda dealer but I gave up after the usual "oh...ehh...... errr......em" confusion as soon as you mention rx7 to them! :)

Thanks for that mate, planning on doing my vac pipes over the long winter months. Had the same problem with my dealer needless to say I don\'t use them any more. ;D
