Title: Racing Beat Exhaust - Any good?
Post by: aj47coupe on September 17, 2010, 12:22:05 PM
Hello,

I have a nice sounding Racing Beat exhaust. (came with car, recently bought the car)

I just wanted to know if they are any good...IMO it is great cos it\'s not too loud but nice and low rumble.

I\'m pretty sure its cat back installed.

What is you opinon?

Well, I had a cat-back one on my first FD and I broke it. But then, I can actually break titanium ones too, so possibly not RB\'s fault :(. The welds rotted through around the front face of the backbox, and then the whole thing rusted and blew to bits. I guess it must have been a dodgy batch of stainless steel, cos I don\'t think they ever made them from anything else, maybe I was just unlucky. Lol.

Think they sound nice, but not very loud as these things go. I prefer my exhausts a bit more anarchic (though that\'s a meaningless personal subjective view)

Love my RB twin pipe - wouldn\'t change it unless I was going for crazy power. Its perfect for track work as it mutes the exhaust quite nicely.

Very reputable manufacturer of rx7 parts and always recommended as good quality products but too subtle tailpipes for me plus im with Nik, fd\'s need the crazy sound thats why i roll with a Nurspec R lol.

Top products, performance without the crazy noise :) Im running a massive RB 3" midbox, keeps the exhaust noise down but keeps the rotary sound :)

+1 for Racing Beat products.

I love the look and sound of my RB Twin exit :InLove

The welds on mine are a work of art, and when you give it a wipe with a damp rag, doesn\'t look half-bad. I have *NO* idea how Nik managed to break his... oh wait... :Hammer

As some others have pointed out, it\'s not the loudest of exhausts, but with a sports cat (minimal silencing) it is plenty loud enough for me, I don\'t like to draw TOO much attention with my subtle little Mazda ;)

I just put my foot down hard and it sort of went bang :o It\'s how I tend to break most things, seemingly

It was odd, though in fairness it wasn\'t just the welds that had rusted the entire front "face" of the silencer was rotten right through. I don\'t know how old it was or anything, so maybe it was simply that it was an early one from before they used stailness 100%, or a one-off fault from the factory or a rogue batch of stainless, dunno. I\'ve never met or heard of similar happening to anyone else since, so I don\'t think it\'s a common quality problem.

Figures

You know, you should change your username to "Lucky", subtitle "It\'s ironic". ;)

Funnily enough, I was going to pick "Lucky" when I joined MRC but someone else had the username already, had posted like twice in early 1947 or so and never visited since...so I had to be Nik da Greek! Ironically , he\'s since been excised from the Registers of the Hallowed Book of MRC Legend, so I could have chosen it had I just joined. Just my luck :rollin

I love my RB dual tip. Looks subtle, but classy, and sounds amazing.
It\'s not OTT, but it oozes class.

One of the things that nearly stopped me going single is that I thought I\'d have to bin it for something more run of the mill. Apparently they are fine for more power though, huzzah.

Thanks for the replies...I does look very pretty..it\'s only a single tip not a dual one like Dr Dan has.

Yo can see a pic of it in the "Show us your RX7 pcitures" thread.

I fitted a single exit today. Its actually no louder than the stock box with the standard cat in. Looks lush but I was hoping for a bit more noise.

I fitted my dual tip to a fully unsilenced decatted, 3" dp single tub, and tbh I didn\'t like it :(
It had that very distinctive, very harsh tone of a rotary where you could hear the \'edge\' of every pulse - almost a bit tinny and raspy :(
I\'ve now had a good friend weld in 2 x 3" bore, 5"x12" straight through silencers, and it\'s back to how I like it - it sounds lovely! Almost all the harshness has gone and it\'s taken on a deep rumble, but is still most definitely a rotary! And that\'s all before it\'s coked up as well. Once it\'s got some miles under it, and I\'ve wrapped it all, it should become even nicer

No the only one dude, one of the inners of the dual exit fell out of mine, if you look at the 1st pic DrDan posted you can see the 2 inner pieces i mean.
A guy in a civic noticed it had fallen out and way trying to catch me up to tell me, and there was me thinking he wanted to race and booted it, took him a few mins to catch up and get my attention.

SiH,

I see what you mean about the sound now... it does sound a bit odd.
If I get a moment I\'ll try and record the sound of mine...
