Are they not limiting the number of cars..... that\'s 60 already on a small track  WTF !!!

I think that IS the max number of cars on the day, only 25 allowed on track at any one time and they say that you have to come in after 20 minutes or so to allow others to have a go too. Last year it worked well and we never had to queue up for too long to get back on the track.

I\'m told that the BH Indy circuit has a track limit of 32, and the maximum number of cars that will be booked for the day is 70, so it doesn\'t look too bad on that basis.

BTW, I see the early booking discount has now been removed. It\'s now showing £130, not the discounted £91........

I\'m surprised it 32 cars, it\'s normally somthing like 1 car for every .1 of a mile of track so about 12 - 14 cars if I\'m not mistaken. 32 would certainly be like a traffic jam. Maybe 32 is for competition where drivers have race licenses

I still think this is too many cars and could get rather jamed at the start line throughout the day, just a bit concerned.

^^^ Dave, I share your potential concern. However, I\'ve been assured that the track limit is 32 cars, so with 70 cars booked in it should work on the basis of most cars staying out ~33% of the time (on average), therefore allowing some slack to avoid pitlane queuing. Might be busy at the first session of the day though!

STOP PRESS: due to someone having a problem with their car, their place, and that of a friend, are now available. So, TWO places still available if you are quick!

UPDATE:Brands has had a couple of inches of snow today. They have no event today, next one is tomorrow (Wed) and are not sure yet whether that will be "on" or not, so you can imagine they can\'t give me any information on Friday\'s prognosis at this stage. They say it may not be until 4-5pm on Thursday night before decision is made. They do have facilities to clear the track of snow, but if the covering is excessive, still falling, or the track itself is exceptionally cold, then the day would be cancelled.

I\'ve spoken to Nick at Mazda on Track and he confirms that the event is still "on" until he hears from Brands Hatch to the contrary.

Keep an eye on this forum and I will update everyone as soon as I know anything more. Nick also has the email address of everyone who booked, so please check your emails. For anyone who took a transferred place please ensure Mazda on Track have your email address.

Is this event still on due to the bad weather - when will a decision be made?

IMPORTANT UPDATE - TRACKDAY POSTPONED

Nick at Mazda on Track has just confirmed this trackday has now been transferred to 31st Jan (Monday). Although I\'m obviously disappointed, it\'s also a relief, as the uncertainty was causing a lot of problems for everyone.

OK, the issue now is do people want to transfer to 31 Jan (which will happen automatically), or take a credit against another future event. If there are enough people interested I\'ll run with the 31st.

hi casey if i can get the day off and my missus not working can i catch a lift with you? also would i be able to bring my brother lol, i know a tall ask but i would love to go up there just to watch even if i didnt get a passenger ride. We both have helmets as well if we get offered a ride around :) :Giggle

^^^ Will; if you can make it down to my place in Colchester early enough you (and your brother) are welcome to a lift, no problem. I\'ll probably be leaving Colchester ~6am, to avoid the bridge queues and get down early to bag a garage. If you bring your helmets there should be ample opportunities for passenger rides. Not sure what I\'ll be doing after the session yet - a group of us might stay down for a meal local to the track to avoid the rush-hour traffic back on the M25. If we do, then you\'d be welcome to join us before the trip back.

Ok mate will make sure I can get time off in the new year and if my brother can as long as we can will be at yours for 5.45am, thanks btw

OK, I hope everyone is set for Monday. Current BBC forecast is for light rain and 3 degrees (but NO SNOW!!).

I\'ve attached a briefing pack, which also contains a list of who\'s attending, which might make it easier to meet anyone new.

Key points;

Arrive as early as you can (I aim to get there shortly after 7am). Official arrival time is from 7.30am, no later than 8.30am. If you arrive early, try to get to the pit area and bag a garage. Given the number of cars, if we try to get three cars to a garage we\'d be taking our fair share. So, early arrivals, please bag a garage each, then later arrivals can share.

A big thanks to all the people I spoke to at Brands to day, all of whom were more than happy to assist me with my first track day learning curve. I had a great time :Thumbs-up.

However - the learning curve! First problem of the day was registering 108db - 3db over the limit. Finally got it down to 105-6 db and was given the all clear but told that I might get called in if the marshalls thought it was too loud. I was called in for scuffing the track surface with my front splitter :Nono!. I tried three times to try and resolve it (including driving slower) but in the end I conceded and decided that it was better to retire than be given my marching orders by the clerk of the course.
It\'s always good to learn and solve problems. I probably need to raise the ride height 1 to 2 inches. A project for later this year when it\'s warmer.

Had a great day - even though I left at 1pm - very happy and looking forward to future events.

First of all many thanks to all who turned out for this on a cold January day and Malcolm who works very hard behind the scenes to get these events off the ground for us all to enjoy.

Also it was good to see an FD an FC and an FB out on the track but a real shame that we have so many really good well sorted powerful RX-7\'s in the club that won\'t come out to play with us:(.

BTW when I say cold I mean COLD, indeed it was so cold that no matter how I altered tyre pressures and suspension settings I could not get ANY heat in the tyres infact I have never ever gone on a race track and gone back to the pits on the same tyre pressures,

In the afternoon the sun came out very briefly putting a bit of heat into the track and I finally found a little bit of grip !

I am pleased to say that as a result of a mate of mine coming along I now know why people rave about the sound of my RX-8 with its full Racing Beat exhaust system, plus he did incar for me that I think would do Top Gear proud for quality (even goes out to full screen with no graining!!)

There is one of the RX-8 by itself on the straight and I know why Aston told me that he nearly had an accident keep hearing the car go round :rollin:rollin:rollin.

Finally found a moment to post up and say a HUGE thankyou to everyone, drivers and spectators, who came along on Monday to make it a "Grand Day Out". The weather was very cold, but with no wind, and some lovely sunshine in the afternoon. I thoroughly enjoyed the day, especially as it was my first trackday with the Federal 595 RS-R tyres, which proved very grippy after 2-3 laps. Analysis of my in-car video at home later showed the tyres had knocked 2 seconds off my previous lap times, so well pleased with that. Getting ever closer to the elusive 60 sec Indy laptime :cool

Well done to all the "first timers" on their first full trackday. You all seemed to enjoy the day and you were giving it some beans, especially later in the day when you\'d built more confidence and the track had warmed up a little. I hope to see you all later in the year sometime!

One great thing about the day was to see so many rotaries together (15 in total) in the pits, especially as we did get an FB, FC, FD and a whole bunch of RX-8\'s.  As Clive said, there are so many well sorted FD\'s out there I\'m surprised more didn\'t join in the fun. Well done to Adrian with his lovely yellow FD, which juuuuuust scraped throught the noise test and looked lovely on track. Shame about the splitter grounding, but I hope you can get that sorted, quieten her down a bit and look forward to seeing you again on track.

The social side in the pits was lively throughout the day; plenty to chat about, and the odd mechanical and gravel issue to deal with. It was great to see everyone chip in to help out others. On that score, my thanks to Clive and Hypothermia for the loan of some of the tools I didn\'t think I\'d need on the day...... I am maintaining my record of last year of going through front brakepads like no tomorrow - but at least it keeps Clive in business :) Thanks also to Naz for "Spanner Monkey" assistance :Thumbs-up

I\'m quite busy with work this week, but will catch up at the weekend and sort through the in-car footage (not as high quality as Clive\'s!) and still pics that Nigel (GSB) took with my camera (thx Nige) and post something up.

I\'ve nearly finalised some venues/dates for further trackdays this year and hope to post up within the next week, so keep an eye out......

Doesn\'t matter though, huge fun getting nice smooth, and reasonably quick laps with consistent times, especially as the times were ~2-3 seconds quicker than my last outing to BH.

OK, a reminder that this event was one of the 4 MRC 2010 "Officially Supported Trackdays". People have been asking me how to claim their MRC contribution so, if you are a FULL, paid-up, MRC member, drop an email to "Lisa @ mazdarotaryclub.com" (without the spaces!). Include your forum name, real name and your mailing address and Lisa will send you a cheque for £20 towards your costs (brakepads in my case.............again :o)

OK, a reminder that this event was one of the 4 MRC 2010 "Officially Supported Trackdays". People have been asking me how to claim their MRC contribution so, if you are a FULL, paid-up, MRC member, drop an email to "Lisa @ mazdarotrayclub.com" (without the spaces!). Include your forum name, real name and your mailing address and Lisa will send you a cheque for £20 towards your costs (brakepads in my case.............again :o)

You can get your payment even quicker if you send your PayPal email address to Lisa, as she now has some funds in the account.
