Title: I have a OMP fault, advice needed
Post by: tommy18 on September 15, 2010, 08:30:24 PM
Hi, after getting a commander for my ecu it turns out my heat light flashing is a fault with my OMP.
has anyone replced this and how bigger job is it? i dont want to go down the premix route so a replacement it is! my cars a single turbo with no air pump so would this make it easier? would i need to replace any gaskets and where would i look for a good second hand omp??:3Confused
thanks in advance
tom

Heat light flash could be knock or maxing out injectors depending on frequency. Check the sensor screen on your commander if vmop is highlighted then you may have a faulty pump.

thanks for your reply, yeah its definatly the metering pump (vmop) i\'ve got to find a way of sorting it out, i dont mind doing it myself but i normally just search on here or google it and i can find a step by step how to guide but i\'m having trouble with this one! i dont really know how much i\'d pick one up for? or if the seal/gasket is a dealer only part?

I\'ve got a spare you can try, was working ok at the time. Only problem is its at my brothers place, and he\'s away on holiday atm. If you\'re desperate I can get hold of it. 3 bolts iirc, should be easier to get to with a single. 2 oil lines bolted into the pump, maybe check the wiring before doing anything :)

relatively easy to change from below, i also have a spare that was working fine before it was removed if you need one. might need some standard copper crush washers for the lines, best not to re-use them - I\'d run premix until you get it fixed.

Had flashing on my heat sensor, 3 or 4 on start then 6 or 7 occasionally when driving gently at 60mph.........thought it may have been the Tesco SUL petrol .  I\'d better check this out first thing as i\'m supposed to be getting it mapped on Saturday.

I\'ll check the wiring tomorrow, i checked connection under the elbow and that seemed good but i\'ll investigate some more tomorrow but i think it a replacement jobby!
did you guys remove your OMP\'s to run pre-mix?
i just need one thats in perfect working order, how much am i looking at?

rx-dave- my light was flashing 2 seconds on, 2 seconds of from as soon as i started the engine to when i turned it off!

cheers:Thumbs-up

Hopefully mine\'s ok then :D.  I\'ll PM you a number of a lad who\'ll almost certainly have an OMP to sell, i\'ve got one or two there on dead engines but these may have been the cause of death so it\'d be a pointless exercise trying them!
Dave.

Hi, I assume you have to drain the oil to fit a replacement omp, but should I drain the coolant too? So I can remove hosses that might be in the way? Any other tips would really help,
cheers

You won\'t have to drain the oil dude - some will come out but you\'ll be fine.
I may have an OMP in my loft from a 45k car if that\'s any good to you? I\'ve also got a new O-ring I don\'t need.
