hi guys i saw someone is selling a 13b tt engine, but at the moment the engine is out of the car how can i do a compression test on it? and any other way for me to check wether the engine is in good condition? or any one here live near or in exess that know how to do a compression test? thx:D
What do you want to get from a compression test. If you want actual numbers to gauge condition of the engine, then you arent gonna get them from an engine out the car. You need the engine up to full operating temp to get an idea of numbers.
If you just want to know that all the seals are generally good, then i spose you can attach a bellhousing to the engine and a starter motor and give it 12v with a tester attached?
yes i want to get the actual numbers from the engine, as i knew to do a proper compression test the engine need to be in full ope temp to get the correct reading,
if the seals are in generally good condition does that mean the engine is in generally gd condition too?
because someone is selling a engine which i\'m interesting in to put in my rx7 but then i want to know the actuall condition of the engine before i purchase it, the seller said that the engine is running and then it was tooken out after it had accident and it has been stood outside the car for less then a month
its a tough one dude...tbh you dont really wanna read too much into compression figures. Its only an indicator. Engines with oil seal failure can give you higher numbers, different brands of apex seals can give you different numbers as can things like side seal gaps etc etc. If it were me, Id have want to have seen it run..thats just me though. Another reason I wouldnt buy an engine based solely on some numbers is that it can have water seal failure...you can test for that too but its a bit long winded and the test isnt a 100% guarantee
alright so basically you would perfer to rebuild the engine instead to buy a second hand engine? coz i wanna get it running as soon as possible, some people selling the engine or block on its own and is running so seems alright for me,
Give a call to jason at Super7 Autose and see what he suggest..

I bought an engine that wasn\'t in a car, told it was ported. it wasn\'t ported and it wasn\'t even working.
So beware
I bought a complete drop in unit from Martin at Speedline for £1500 that is 100% complete with everything still there and was tested at ReWorx with high 7\'s on both rotars if that\'s any good to you? I bought it for a car that i have broken up so it\'s no longer needed and in my way.
Dave.

reall!? that scares me off now lol... unlucky mate so wt did u do with it at the eng?
I\'d want to see receipts from a previous rebuild, or speak to whoever serviced the car recently if they are a reputable rotary shop. With no history I\'d only pay as if it was a blown engine and I would budget for a rebuild.
lol at scarmongering. theres couple of dodgy people on ebay selling engines. engines from cash damaged cars are ok rite i mean itd been tough to have a big smash with a knackered engine lol
Yeah, but you are assuming that the engine really is from a crash damaged car... he\'s talking about one that\'s already been taken out: how would you know what car it had been in, or whether it was running at the time? Even if it was running it could have had water seal failure etc.

End plate had failed water seal sold the rest of the engine as the other plates and rotarys were fine. Small Claims resolved the rest :)
