Title: Suspension options FC - discuss
Post by: Koose on September 11, 2010, 10:36:08 AM
Hi guys

Whats available for our cars? The car is not a drift car.

It will go on track though.

I Refuseto buy BC,as working in a modified car parts shop, we were offered the BC contract, and i know the quality , longevity and how cheap the traders buy them in at.

So BC aside, what is available, and what is good /bad /cheap /expensive etc

Mark

there are loads of options: Tein have coilovers and also lowering springs, I had the Tein SS springs on stock shocks for a while, then I got a set of Koni adjustables with Pi springs, which I think are great (cheaper than coilovers too). Pretty sure HKS had a set of coilovers for the FC, not sure if they still make them or not.

I\'m my opinion don\'t bother with coilover unless you have a £2K plus budget and your prepared to look at Nitron/Ohlins/Aragosta etc etc.

For an AWSOME road/track set up get a set of RB anti roll bars, with end link kit, Sport Bilstein dampers and some thing like a Tanabe GF/ or Eibach spring set. Too many people fit coilovers and just leave them to take care of the body roll by stiffening them up. Not the way forward. Good quaility stiffer roll bars will take soo much stress off the dampers and allow them to work way more efficiently through the bends. thus giving you a better handling car.

Uprated dampers and springs :) make sure that the dampers are adjustable

dependent on what you\'ll put up with on the road tbh.

Personally i wouldn\'t bother with separate shocks and springs they wont give the the same height adjustability, ability to alter preload, and by the time you\'ve got adjustable top mounts you\'ll have spent the same amount as you would have spent on coilovers.

I\'m running kei office on mine and they\'re extremely good, though very stiff. In comparision to a car running uprated shocks and springs and even uprated anti roll bars, it feels a lot more stable, and gives me a lot more confidence. The stiffness isn\'t too bad, but combined with a welded diff is just a ball ache on the road.

If you don\'t mind something too stiff why not go HSD? Plently of people praise them against other brands, Havn\'t heard of many problems with them (pretty good seeing as most of driftworks have them) and they\'re a similar price to BC\'s. Also they\'re fully adjustable.

Dthebuk jus see there ya have Kei Office coilovers. I bought these second hand but the two rear dampers are fecked. Ya hardly know anywhere that would repair them as the company is not in business anymore.

Fair few coilover setups here on the used parts market, Koose ;)

You might wanna couple it with a set of uprated bushings.

the only reason to get them repaired would be if you could repair one. Repairing two will probably cost as much as buying two. Thats if you can even find a place to repair them. Your best bet would be to buy new. If you want something repairable, buy something uk based such as HSD

Just thought ya might know someone. Its a common fault in them, a lot a lads that I was talking to that had them said three rears went as well. The thing is when I bought them there was two new dampers with them but there not the right size of course. Got cheap so don\'t matter.

Havn\'t had any problems with mine other than the bone shattering stiffness. Makes the car handle beautifully though

Mine have been OK so far too. Very hard ride though. Still a very good setup for the track.
