Title: South African RX7 1981 12A
Post by: Frank on September 09, 2010, 07:54:39 PM
Hi there
New here - be kind folks..:3Confused

Series 2 SA22 cars are rare in South Africa. This one had been parked for seven years before it was restored. It has 95K on the clock and is still totally original apart from the obvious. It has all the Rx7 issues being rear disc brakes, minor oil leaks and a suspicious OMP.

Problem is - after market  parts are impossible to find here. To import is not cheap  either. Most mechanics who work on these cars are too far away to risk or want  to drive to. If you own one you must be prepared to fix  most things yourself.:reallymad:(

Researching this car - whist going over it with a fine tooth comb is rather intriguing  -  I had a similar one in 1997. I suppose that makes me an enthusiast of sorts!

:cool

Hi Frank,
Your car looks great!
Is your sunroof in two halves or am I seeing things?

Congrats Frank - that sure is a good looking beast.  Was it yourself that restored her?
Like the idea of the split roof - definitely after market accessory I\'d say.

Thanks guys,
I bought her through a small dealership in 2009. I had been looking for a decent one for two years - this after letting my previous one go in 97. The dealer (decent chap) came upon it in a complete but dusty, scratched and packed under condition in a garage. It belonged to folks in their 70s by now. A bit sad how the car and her twin ended up...:3Confused

To make a long story short he had it cleaned up and resprayed to sell.  It was rather bare when I fetched it but I received all the original parts with it including the rotary design rims. I don\'t know yet weather to have them refurbished and fitted again?

The split sunroof is interesting. :xconfused Looking at it again it seems aftermarket. It could be that the original owner had it fitted. That diminishes the car in the originality stakes but ;) ..who\'s counting?

I am interested to note a difference between the cars in America/Canada and the ones in Europe? The location of the side indicators seem to be the same for UK and SA models?

Cheers for now:cool

My 1st 7 (latter half of 80\'s) was an SA imported fom Japan (2.6GT) and the indicators were positioned forward of the front wheels and were triangular in shape - actually i quite liked it that way.
