Title: rx8 rims on a rx7 fd
Post by: playtime on August 30, 2010, 11:47:20 AM
Hi. Was looking through the pics of the FDs there, but dont see any with rx8 rims (the slightly angled 5 spoke 18" versions). Has anyone got any pics of these on a FD, as Ive been offered a set worth the money, but not sure if they would suit. Cheers in advance

There are a few running about on them, I believe it\'s a straightforward swap.  See 1 minute into this video.

I had them on mine, do I recommend them? Hmm...

No. No. No no no no no no no no. Just no.

Offsets are too weak and they\'re narrower than the standard 16" wheels, will really spoil the handling. But anyway, pics:

And now the same car with proper wheels:

Cheers fdash. Think ill skip on them lol. I picked up 7x17s this morning with et42 and they were even worse than the std 16s. Think its going to have to be 8.5x 18s at the very least with et35, but seem to be very rare, 2nd hand, over here :(

PS FDash, what size and et are you running with the new rims? Fill the arches really well :)

I\'ve got 18x8.5" ET30 with 225/40s on the front and 18x9.5" ET30 with 255/35s on the rear. No spacers, no rubbing, no tramlining, all good. :Thumbs-up

Ash, are you able to fit those 9.5\'s on the front?
Lookin at getin some new rims and was wondering if I could go 9.5\'s all round.
Thanks

et10-15 in a 9j/10j is what you want.

on 17" i have et15 8.5j in front, et12 9j rear. it\'s not that aggressive and i didn\'t have to do anything to the arches, although they do rub slightly

If you went to a weaker offset I\'d imagine so, but they sit pretty close even at 8.5". If I decide to tart up my callipers as planned this week I\'ll swap a rear to the front and see what happens. A lot of it will depend on tyre make/sizing too.

Wee update. Ive just bought some 8.5x18\'s (all 4 are 8.5x18), et35, all running 225x40. Look grand at the front, but sitting in a wee bit too much from the arch, for my liking at the back. Thinking option 1: 15mm thick spacers, or option 2: 255x35 tyres on the rear. Open to suggestions on what way to go here................

changing ya tyre wont make the wheel sit out further! if thats what ya ment?

spacers will be your only option unless you change the wheel for a different offset

lol. Sorry, not quite what I meant. A bigger tyre will stick out alittle more out from the edge of the rim, so thinking it will fill the arch slightly more. Was trying the little program link on the wheels / tyres section, and noticed the 255 tyre fitted, instead of 225 profile, was about 15 mm closer to the wheelarch, on the same rim, if that makes sense.
