Title: MOT FUN - Any good places near Cleckheaton?
Post by: leon on August 16, 2010, 10:15:22 AM
Well got the car to the MOT station on saturday its first outing after nearly 2 years of royal fail drama and broken parts.

Anyway long and short of it was that the test was abandoned... Reason being "Its too low, we cant get a jack under it." This made me smile especially when they refused for me to demonstrate how I can get a 1 tone jack under it.

Anyway the car did get an emissions test and failed. It has no cat and was done on the cat test, its a 1994 (I belive this car can be cat exempt?)

Results:
Fast Idle
Co - 3.85% - fail
HC 1809ppm - fail
lambda 1.07 -pass

Idle
co 3.66% - fail

Does anybody know a good MOT place in West Yorkshire (Near Cleckheaton) where they will be able to get a "low" car onto their equipment and where they will allow me to \'tweak\' the ECU and lean it out for the test - and also do it as a no cat test.

Heard a rumour that adding a little methanol to the mix works a treat but don\'t know in what mix...

Sounds like a rubbish garage anyway to be honest, probably did you a favour!

Why would they need to be able to get a jack underneath it for the MOT?

The garage I go to drive it on to flat ramps that are in the floor (so no ramp lip to worry about) and raise the car to look underneath, etc. If the cars too low for the rollers, for the brake efficiency test, they can perform the brake test on the road. They put a digital box resting in the passenger footwell which measures the braking force at a set speed for the test.

So in summary, they are muppets!

I tried the Meth trick on saturday just gone, Car failed only on emissions the trick did drop emissions like a stone but not enough for me (They put the car through on the UK spec Rx7 test and would not listen to me insisting it was an efini and they should try find it in the book.) It\'s now booked in with another garage who I know will do it right. Im slightly annoyed though I got the car back and thought id check the VIN turns out the car was built in 1993 and the guy who reged it in the UK did it as a 94.

Now my gut feeling was it should have passed if it was a 1993.

Didnt get a print out but:
HC was about 1000 - too high
CO was about 0.5% - too high
lambda was a little too high.

Maybe i should never have bought this car when it was 13 years old :D

Yep! Thought that would be the case, Now I either "prove" to the test station it is a 1993 or wait till saturday. :3Confused (And I hate messing people around, as i would have to cancel the new test)

Got a mail coming back from Vosa on what test it should have been done and a friend at a Mazda dealer is going to check the VIN and fax across a date made on headed paper that should do it? :wiggle

Now I imagine I would have to take the car back to get the pass cert? and oh heck does that mean it should have passed as a 1994?!

Go for it matey, just be sure that it is definately NOT a UK car, or you have slightly stricter marks to pass. As long as it\'s an import the above rings true - but it\'s all on that flowchart anyway :)

just seems they are a bunch of retards, its an import so can easily pass an emmisions test with no cat if you just turn the fuelling down at idle

Those results are with no cat.
