Title: No movement when stopped
Post by: ossie747 on August 16, 2010, 09:12:14 AM
Hi, I\'m sure you guys will give me the logical answer straight away.

When I come to a stop in my fb whether it be at a set of lights or on an incline, having applied the brakes I don\'t need to apply the handbrake because when I take me foot off the brake pedal the car doesn\'t move whatsoever. It doesn\'t seem to matter what gradient of a hill either but doesn\'t seem to affect the performance of the car.

Someone suggested the oil may need changing in the diff but being new to the happy ownership of fb\'s wasn\'t sure so thought I would ask the experts.

Brakes will be sticking on,calipers will need a refurb.

Yep, must be a sticking brake.....does one wheel feel hotter than the others after a run?

To be honest I\'ve not paid too much attention to it so far but I\'ll take a closer look now. Thanks for the advice.

Mine had the same at MOT time-turned out to be nearside rear caliper seized solid.

worth doing them all, FB\'s are 25 years old now minimum kits are cheap enough and its a pretty easy job ;)

Ps: Does anyone happen to know what the score is with loud exhausts when it comes to the MOT, i.e are there limitations and how are the emissions checked on these old beauties?

No emissions test, visual test only but you may need to remind the tester of this.

Re Emissions and Exhaust, if the tester argues about the emissions being visual only, tell \'im your mates have got the same data as him (but we\'ve looked through it)!

There was a very recent post in the 1st gen section from Captain Bizarro (Tim) about all this.....that\'s how we got to the bottom of it.

Loud Exhausts? Don\'t know. But it will be in the VOSA manual, link in the same thread as Captain\'s post above.

If the tester winces & puts ear defenders on,he\'s telling you it\'s too loud:evillaugh

Was thinking I might change the back box before the MOT for something slightly quieter anyway as the existing is turning too many heads.

I had a 79 rex which was loud,anything over 60mph was unbearable.
