Title: struggling to buy a rx. advice please.
Post by: chrisyboi on August 15, 2010, 04:16:02 PM
hello i am new but i have been looking for a fd for a couple of months but havent really seen one that i really like.

im in no ruch to buy one id rather wait unitl the right one came up.

im after one with subtle but good mods, im not after silly power just in the 300,s.

on question was what is the difference in fueling on one with a single turbo and one with twins? as iv seen a nice on with 330 bhp but its got a single turbo which puts me off abit?

and another i have seen is that lambo orange one but im under the impression that the rising in water temp means the engine is goosed?

basicly im just after advice into buying one. if anyone could shed some light

thanks

im not too sure about a budget really.  either way i want one with a recently re built engine that has been looked after so about 6k is reasonable i think.

that or buy one which need a re build

i\'d say find one with a nice straight chassis. most of the cars are getting really old now and it\'s a lot easier to repair a dead engine in a straight shell than the other way around.

Simples...
Buy the best, cleanest nicest condition one you can afford, id ignore miledeg to some extent as lots of been clocked.
And if your not spending 6k+ I persoanlly wouldnt bother. The biggest trap I see customers falling into is thinking they can buy a cheap one and spend the money on mods, 90% of the time you will recyifying faults, not just engine, but clutch, bushes, interiour, diff, gearbox etc etc.

I\'m sorry but your friend the importer would make no profit on your say so? I find that hard to believe.

Having had probably purchased the most number of RX-7\'s in the country since 1998. I can tell you now, buying a < 99 specification car that is freshly imported from Japan at £4-5k is simply asking for trouble unless of course you strike it lucky with a genuine one off bargain purchasing from a private individual in Japan.

As for >99+ Spec cars for 5k in Japan would still be very cheap and against the norm pricing of a good 1999 specification car. At 5k you would still need to pay export fees, shipping, duty, vat, registraton costs etc making the total bill to atleast £8000.

hes doesnt do it for a living, he used to do maybe 1 a month, buy it, drive it around for a bit then sell it, he still has all his trade account stuff and doesnt use it, so just like me who is always willing to help anyone into rotarys because its a nice thing to do.

If it costs 8k then fair enough, if thats what chrisyboi wants to pay he can have one, if he wants to pay less then can look for something earlier, its not a massive deal

From my experience, there is always a motive - monetarily or something similar so do excuse what I mentioned above.

A good 95-98 model RX-7 with history, low mileage, accident free shell (note - uncommon now) would cost around £6-8k landed and fully registered in the country. The attached car below belongs to a friend of mine - 1998, Type R, 44000 Miles, Compression tested in high 8\'s and handled flawlessly. He imported it from Japan and it did cost him around £7500, he could well have purchased one for less but with RX-7\'s - the price very much so is directly related to the condition both aesthetically and mechanically.

I would say a good 99 Spec model would be in the £9500 mark but I have not imported recently to warrant a definite reply.
