Hi guys,
I\'ve just fitted a Blitz twin cone induction kit to my 3rd gen. There\'s a wonderful whoosh sound as you accelerate (very quickly) but when you change gear or amble along at 40mph there is the sound of a cow from under the bonnet. I assume this is the standard blow off valve ?
Am I correct in this assumption and should it be blowing off under the above conditions ?
Any comments from you clever chappies would be appreciated.
Thanks
Phil
It\'s the airpump "mooing" through the filter.
I removed my Blitz filters after less than a week, couldn\'t stand the noise.
You could always remove the cat and airpump, no noise and a performance improvement.
Sorry to give you bad news :(
Richard
Thanks Richard,
My cat\'s already been removed but the air pump is still in situ.
Phil
If you have no cat, you don\'t need an airpump.
Others who have removed it may know for sure, but I believe you can just unplug it as a test before spending on new pullies and belt to remove it altogether.
Richard
lets av some pics Phil :D
Thanks again Richard.
Andy,
I\'ve taken some pics tonight but not sure how to post them, haven\'t even managed an Avatar yet.
Phil
need to upload them to webspace matey then link them, same with ya avatar :)
if ya need any help PM me :)
Richard\'s right, unplug the wire to the air pump and go out and see if the fresian (sp?) has disappeared. As you dont have a cat the a/p isnt actually doing any thing so you may as well remove it in due course. You\'ll need a pulley kit and some blanking plates I think. The thing weighs a ton :D
I have gutted my cat recently and still run the Airpump as normal. Pip at WGT did not recommend getting rid of the Airpump as it affects the way the car idles (with a standard ECU). If you were to still get rid of the airpump you would need a new larger pulley for the waterpump and a shorter belt (more expense). The standard airpump and its associated Air Control Valve do not really weigh that much anyway and the ECU will not be affected in anyway.
The “mooing†noise is quite normal with an induction kit, I think it gives my car character
:D
apparently you can get a little filter (K&N) to put on the end of the offending hose to quieten it down a bit.

Idle can go a bit fluffy but it never bothered me when I was in that situation - but each to their own. If you want to argue the toss then I\'d say aftermarket filters are a wate of time in the first place and you should buy an ECU first - which negates the problem when u do fit a filter kit (if u must - the mazda air box does the job best imo). And yep, you need a pulley kit as I said - and again, if u have the cash to waste on an intake kit then you probably have it for some shiny pulleys ;)
As for the a/pump not weighing any thing? the one I sent to some one cost me enough to post thats 4 sure! Good few pounds there...

True about the stock airbox, I changed the panel over to a K&N filter and it seems just fine. I did wonder about grafting in an additional air intake into the box from the front of the car, to increase the percentage of cold air being drawn in.
I run RB cat-back, Bonez cat and a downpipe (can\'t remember manufacturer), which when combined with a PFC and the stock panel fitted with a K&N seems to have provided a reasonably well balanced setup. I get a little hesitation around transition, but nothing too serious.
