Post by: Pantera Chris on July 28, 2010, 11:44:39 AM

Im currently running my engine in and can now take the car to 5k  revs. I havent particualry noticed the 2nd turbo coming in yet. Should  this be on full boost by 4k? Do you actually feel a kick in the back  when it comes in?

The car is stock apart from a Power FC and filters.

Thanks,
Chris

Yes and yes mate,

Stupid question but are you still running sequentially?

If you are you should feel the second one spool (theres a slight drop in boost) between 3.5 - 4k. Above 4k theres a definate kick in the back.

I\'ve got a great turbo operation guide for the twins if you want it? Tells youe xactly how they work throughout the rev range

Yes, running seq.

That would be good thanks. I will have just have to wait till I can take it to the redline (another 500 miles) to fully test I guess :)

Depends how you are driving it. The 2nd turbo needs a minimum boost pressure for the various solenoids to work to bring it into play. So if you are still running the engine in, and not giving it large amounts of right foot, you may simply not be generating enough boost to open the y-pipe flapper and get the 2nd turbo push. The 2nd turbo does pre-spool, but if the boost pressure isn\'t right, it does not join in the fun. Also, on FD\'s that I have had, the point at which the 2nd one kicks in is variable, 3.5-4.5k rpm roughly. So at 5k rpm it may be right at the point where you have got the 2nd one kicking in, but also just at the point you are probably lifting off \'cos the revs have got to around 5k. You really need to wait until the engine is run in and you can give it WOT to 6 or 7k (or red line!).

You can also control the transition using the Commander for the power FC - it should tell you what it is set to.
