Title: major electrical issues :( need help :(
Post by: MaLicE on July 26, 2010, 09:03:31 PM
ok im having serious issues!

i cant start the car at all, i mean it wont turn over it wont power up ecu!!! if i put the key in and switch it to the first click i get dash lights and beeper going, the radio turns on...

second click nothing changes, third click (starter) nothing everything turns off as you would expect... now i have checked all the wires on the back of the key switch... i have 6 wires:

blue - accessory
black and red - starter motor
blue and black - earth
green and black - permanent 12v
black and yellow - nothing
black and white - switched ignition...

now black and yellow should be switching on on the second click which powers up the interior fans etc... now if i provide a 12v to this i get the fans on but still no ecu (power fc) now i checked the ecu, stuck it on another car and put a map on it and it started the car...

i have checked the starter wire (red and black) there is no breaks, i checked the solenoid wire, again no breaks... i cant see whats wrong, i checked all fuses in the fuse boxs... but nothing is wrong!!

i have tried 2 engine looms... checked every connection over and over, the dash is now out of the car!! i have checked every loom behind the dash and as far as i can see NOTHING is wrong!!! now i have pulled out the fuse box from inside the car this is where the black and yellow wire goes in to (at the back of the box at the top...

now on the front of the box, above where the fuses go i have 2 spaces and im not sure if something should go there???

anyone got any ideas for me?? does the f100 or tns have anything to do with the ignition??? there is no alarm on it any more, had it removed as it was causing more issues...

please help :( i was going to take it to hayward, however i have issues getting the car there! so for now im attempting it myself... please help me :(

I had a similar problem with an Evo 6 a few years back, i say similar as it was a problem that would come and go. It started when i \'shocked\' my electrical system by hooking up a booster pack the wrong way around :2Rolleyes.
I eventually had the problem traced to an elctrical diode and rectified the problem by running a new switched live to the ECU.............not a perfect fix but it worked.
Dave.

Hello mate, have you stuck a multimeter on continuity on the ignition barrel to confirm the contacts are making inside between your common and the suspect terminal?

Where does the ECU pick up it\'s ground from? Is it from one of the pins- if so have you put a voltmeter on them to confirm voltage when you jumpered the barrel?

no i havent, will have a look tomorrow...

if i do a continuity test stick one probe on the constant 12v right then flick the switch round and check im getting a connection between them right??

Yeah thats right mate stick it on buzzer and check between your permanent feed terminal and the terminal that is giving you grief.

When you check the voltage at the ECU make sure you pick the ground up from wherever the ECU does otherwise if you put the ground probe on the door hinge bolt for instance, you will still show voltage and you\'ll end up going round in circles. Hope it doesnt seem like I\'m teaching you how to suck eggs because I\'m not just preventing you making mistakes I\'ve made on car electrics.:Thumbs-up

i am no electical guru.....

but, have you tried hitting the starter motor as you turn the key?

had a similar problem with my old fc. Either had to bump start it or do the above

I\'ve got an intermittent problem kind of similar that when you go to position 3 theres a massive click and everything turns off.

Turns out my Halfrauds battery +ve electrode is too small for the terminal and isn\'t making enough content for a clean firing.

might be worth checking out yours to be sure.

The clutch pedal has an inhibit switch.  The switch is known to break.  The plunger on it is plastic and if that does break the car will not start, it won\'t turn over nothing.  You might want to check it.

I assume the battery is fully charged and putting out enough cranking volts, you may have some charge but if the volts arent there then it wont even turn the starter motor over you will just get a click

Maybe the starter motor is duff.
I would be very suprised if all the things you are looking at are causing the prob, you have to look at what has been touched with engine being removed and new one installed.

not even getting a click blitz..... i tried it with the battery and a booster pack....

and if i bridge the starter with the solenoid it turns, also if i bridge the starter wire off the key barrel it turns too...
