Title: what HP diff
Post by: ray007 on July 26, 2010, 12:17:21 AM
Hi all

Thinking of going single on my FD3S, just wondering what kinda BHP at wheels can a standard diff take?

What aftermarket diffs are recommended? ill probably going for around 550bhp on the flywheel

thanks in advance for your advice

Agree with the above, your gearbox will be the first to go! if you have that side of things covered then the stock diff wont last to long if you have 450+bhp and doing frequent launches !!

lol...

ok, im gana be honest,

i have two rex\'s at the mo, and ones just a shell into which ill be installing a 1jz engine, 2.5 twinturbo from a soarer along with either an R154 or V161 gearbox, so thats the last of my worries.

Im just a little concerned about the diff! i have no idea of how good they are or how much HP they can take

Hey Ray, Dale here, the guy you picked the door etc from the other day.

If your gonna put the 1jz in there, I think it would worth putting an uprated diff in there due the level or torque that engine puts out. However second hand diffs cost around £100 mark, so you would have to weigh it up against the cost of an uprated unit say £600 mark new

I run a stock Gearbox on my drag car has not broke yet, the diff is the first thing to go in my experiance and other peoples experiance who actually have over 550bhp.

I run a Kazz 1.5 way diff now as I mashed my stock diff years ago at only 500bhp

we ran craig wins car on a std diff for two years of track days and time attack, it had over 500 @wheels,it only broke when we fitted 335,30,18 slicks !!!. i have broke one in mine but it was my fault by ....ing up a lauch at avon parksort out the axle tramp and that will give it a easier time as well .

I agree the stock tranny seems to hold fine, been running my stock box with over 500 rwhp for 2 years now. My differential went out very quickly when getting into the 450+ rwhp area. I swapped mine for an 87 turbo II clutch style differential. Been working great. I also run solid differential mounts, reinforced ppf, and a tranny brace.

Ok guys so what did would you recommend with the 1jz engine and r154 gear ox in my fd?

Are the re-amemiya type diffs as good as the kaaz diffs?
