I have finally got my twin plate clutch arrive in the post and with the help of the lil dude Kieron we\'re gonna try and put it on this weekend.
First off, has anyone tried removing a clutch and flywheel while the engine in in the car and the car up on axel stands?
Secondaly, does anyone local have the right sized socket to get the nut off?
and finally is it an easy job to swap things around?
Adam
I asked JM garage to do mine as he had air tools and the 54mm socket needed lol my engine hasn\'t been taken out ever, so he did it without a lift under the car :)
Its tight but do-able, Dont rush and drink plenty of tea. U need quite a lond bar as that nut is a ...... Just get it as high as you can and dont forget to line ur parts back up when you put your clutch back in, Got a socket but a bit far away, I got mine on ebay for £6 3/4" drive.
Keith.
Got 2 54mm sockets and a 58mm socket with a 1" drive for the cost of a 58mm socket yay for the mess up lol
Adam, hopefully you have not got the gear box out yet as you won\'t get the flywheel nut undone without a big 3/4 air gun with the vehicle just on axle stands as it won\'t be high enough to get a long enough bar to get it undone,
These nuts are done up to 360lbs of torque, so you will either need the car on a ramp to get a big breaker bar on it or as said above, an air gun,
With all this said are you sure that you have not already got a counter ballence weight with a light flywheel fitted as this was qute a modded car when you brought it.
"If" the car has a counterballence weight fitted you can then do this job on the ground because you won\'t have to undo the monster nut,
If you need more info, call me
Hope this helps
If you do need the socket and a 1" drive 2.5\' bar (you\'ll need to slip something over it to extend it) then I have them - just up the road from you.
That would be cool mate. I\'m about tomorrow evening if you are to comepick it up. I\'m guessing i\'d need a torque wrench to tighten it up to the right amount to? Do you have one of those?
To be honest Clive i\'m not 100% what i have on there at the moment but i\'m pretty sure it\'s a standard clutch/flywheel set up. Thanks for advice and i\'ll give you a call if we get stuck :o
Adam
Think you\'ll be lucky to find a torque wrench that\'ll do up to 360 poundfeet dude
I admire your pioneering and intrepid spirit, but I think you should take it to a shop :(

As Nik says - that\'s going to be some Torque wrench - basically - if you get a 6 foot extension on it and you can\'t move the nut anymore - that\'s about 300 ftlb\'s give or take ;)
PM me your address - I\'ll see if I can drop the socket and bar over to you. I think the problem you are going to have is getting that bar onto the socket with enough room to actually losen it. You\'re pretty much going to have to have the car over on it\'s side or get it up on a lifter to get underneath. I got mine undone out in the open - but with two of us trying to hold the engine still and swinging like monekys off it to get it lose. It\'s possible you might get it undone if you can lay your hands on a torque multiplier with the restricted room you have.
