Title: Leaning Out towards top end
Post by: bobster on May 23, 2004, 06:33:40 PM
Went for a spin with a wideband on yesterday after getting my new exhaust fitted yesterday. After about 6000rpm I am starting to lean out slightly.
Looking through the maps, I should be quite rich (what else would a rotary run;) ).
Any suggestions on where to start. I\'m hoping a new fuel filter should fix the problem.

That sounds normal why do you think you should be rich at top end ? My car for example needs a load more fuel at around 6,600rpm onwards.

If I recall
After 6000rpm they fell from 10.5ish to about 12.5-13 ish

I don\'t know your mods but if you are sure you should have better fueling at top end and the ecu is already setup to provide enough fueling. Then look at replacing your fuel filter firstr and foremost, then if need be fuel pump.

Bob it was nothing like as rich as that I\'m afraid, it\'s leaning out above 3.5k, it\'s just that above 6k it is dangerously lean (not that it\'s a whole lot better between 5 and 6k, but I figured you\'d have enough probs trying to curb your right foot at 6k).

Brian, the fuel map is rich enough for a 10.6 AFR on a ported engine top end and this engine isn\'t ported - it\'s just the fuel isn\'t making it through (and the injectors are no where near their limits).

first thing first get rid of your fuel filter I have seen some that I wondered how the car would actually run?

Besides the clogged filter, I would def check the pump voltage.  Low voltage to the pump gives your exact symptoms.

Does anyone have a part number for the fuel filter?

What fuel pressure was the other car running?

To be sure, why don\'t you run a T-Piece in the fuel line and check the fuel pressure itself.  Run a hose so that you can see the pressure from inside the car i.e. secure the gauge on the outside of the front windscreen when driving.

Or check the pressure on a rolling road via the gauge.

If everything else checks out - look at getting yourself an adjustable fuel pressure regulator, to up it a bit.

Stock fuel setup on both cars.  It\'s the same fuel map I was running on my car at that boost, we had just taken the car out so I could hack the excess fuel out of the map.
