Hi guys, currently own a FC3S 91 TII, have had it for roughly 18months now and this problem still persists to puzzle me til this day.
Ok the spec:
Series 4- J-spec rotor + housings, alternator, air pump, power steering,
Series 5- water pump, turbo, intercooler, fuel system, ECU, wiring looms etc, and all else i have failed to mention would be series 5 too.
Ok, the problem which i have found is that i am boosting at 0.62bar max, and it is constant, and hardly drops below that at full throttle. Ok so it may sound good, but what worries me is that i thought series 4 TII\'s run at 185bhp whereas the series 5 TII runs at 205bhp?? But i have had a modified stage 1 series 5 having problems to keep up to my standard car (to my knowledge), apart from that BMW M3? Calibra turbo? Escort Cosworth? and even a modified Scooby WRX.
What my problem with this is that what is causing this motor to run so quick? Is it normal for a motor like this with mixed parts to run like this? Or is it hiding a few goods which i cannot see by the naked eye? I also realise that standard 0-60 times are above 6 seconds, whereas i am experiencing mid to low 5\'s.
Although it may seem too good to be true, it actually worries me that there maybe something wrong with the car and i run the risk of pushing the Apex Seals closer and quicker to their death without the proper fueling and management!!
Any info would be great guys,
Patrick
My FC3S TurboII seems to run okay (just ask grinder how quickly we got round the roundabout at Mascrat(http://www.stopstart.freeserve.co.uk/smilie/burnout.gif)) Now I don\'t know what the normall boost pressure is, but mine runs at +22 mmHg (x10), WTF? I have no idea what this means or how to convert to psi or bar. However if the engine is really hot, this figure seems to get reduced, (I think it\'s the wastegate protecting it?).
+22mmHg x10?????????
geez, i think i maybe worth you checking your boost out, as there is a little calculator thing at //www.teamfc3s.org that coverts pressure, and it shows your boost is 0.3bar?? or 4.2psi......
and this seems suspiciously low to me, boost leak?? i dont know, well thats just what i think, i would have thought standard boost is more then that, or maybe you just need an aftermarket boost guage?? (DEFI DEFI DEFI DEFI :D ) as the standard one is pretty off reality.
any more info guys???? please help!! :rollin
well this is something not everybody know about. Using S4 Engine Parts combined with S5 parts, will bring your engine to about 240 BHP. This is coused by diferent port-size of intake ports. (I have not made this by myself, just was told by someone about this issue) Your figures are looking pritty good, but check your car is not running to lean. If your AFR looks OK, don\'t worry about your seals. Oh, just would like to know, if you are running mechanical or electrical oil- pump ? (S4= mechanical. S5= electr.) If mechanical just put some washer on the lever to increase the injected oil ammount.

Cool!! 240bhp from standard? or should i say not standard?! :D
i have also been told that the S4 block (rotors and housing) has a lower compression, thus causing for a higher boost capability, but would this cause the car to run on rich or lean side if no fuel mods have been done?
i am not really concerned about the bhp, more concerned about torque as i do often take my car for drifting events, and torque plays a big factor for events like this.
Iwan i do believe the oil pump is a mechanical item, but then again i am not sure, but what would it be if it were still the standard one, and where abouts on the block is it and how would i tell if it was a mechanical or electrical? i am in the process of planning for mods, therefore, i need to figure out what i have now to be able to upgrade and run the car safely.
Thanks huys, big help, any more info would be great,
patrick
Patrick,
Using the S4 rotors give you lower compression, the housings don´t. They enable you to run higher boost than S5 rotors, before you see knock. I believe the ports in the side plates are the same size in both S4 and S5, but the S5 UIM has a slightly shorter track, enhancing topend power.
If you have a mechanical omp, there is a rod running from the throttle linkage down to the omp. Electrical..none. This will also show if you have the S4 or S5 front cover.

240 BHP - sounds like a good figure to be messign around with :)
and sean - maybe a decent boost gauge should be next on your shopping list :) :) :)
thanks John, UIM?? sorry guys and dont mean to sound stupid here but what is that? and enhancing top end??
ahhhhh..................now that explians why it was still pulling slightly when i was doing 155mph!! :rollin :rollin :rollin i just ran out of road when i got to that speed!! :D
i think i might get the car dynoed and check it all out then, or maybe take it to some specialists,
any more info?
thanks guys,
patrick
Hello Mate,
UIM...Upper Inlet Manifold. Aluminium bit which the intercooler sits on.

cool, i will get a look at that tomorrow John, thanks matey,
any more info where i can tell whether i have S4 or S5 parts?? :wave
cheers, patrick
Hi,
Check the Air flow meter to see what ecu you have. If it is the big square type, you have the S4, where as if it is a round rugby ball shape, you have the S5. On the coolant pipe joining the top of the engine.. has it a capon an aluminum elbow, or is it only a plastic elbow? Cap= S4
Rod going from the OMP to the throttle linkage=S4
John
Well, i have had a good thorough look at my engine today, and it seems the oil pump is a S5 as i can see no rod that you guys have mentioned, AFM is definately a S5, and as for the coolant pipe at the top, its a S4, but the water pump i know is a S5 pump with a S4 housing, basically the somehow modified the S5 pump to fit the S4 housing,
All seems so strange but hey its giving me good figures! :p
