Kinda expert advice needed here - engine builder specific if poss....
A few queries that I want to confirm / deny:
1) First off, do Jap and UK cars have the accelerated warm-up system? Or is it US only for emissions purposes?
2) The purpose of the \'fast cam\' is to set the engine speed higher when cold. Is this separate from the AWS and if so, what is the purpose?
3) When the coolant reaches a certain temperature, the \'thermowax\' essentially melts and disengages the fast idle cam. At this point the \'normal\' cam takes over. Correct?
4) The TPS simply lets the ECU know where the throttle position is so it can regulate everything else accordingly. Correct?
cheers in advance

UK cars have AWS, jap cars don\'t.
AWS revs the car to 3000rpm on cold days to get the pre-cat warmed up quicker. Jap cars don\'t have the pre-cat in the downpipe.
Fast cam helps the car idle better when cold and warms he coolant a bit quicker- as you say, warm coolant melts the wax and disengages the cam.
And finally, yes, that\'s what the TPS does.
I presume the unasked question is \'what can I remove?\'
The Thermowax in the fast idle system expands with heat and pushes out a piston, which disengages the cam.

Ah, I wondered how melted wax would reform to push something back out!
Something knew every day, eh? :)

haha, cheers for that.
Nah, been having a few idle related issues when cold recently, wondering if i\'ve dislodged something whils tinkering.
