Well, after a grand day out at the Japshow at Santa Pod today, I was pulled by the Police and advised my RX7 is illegal and should be taken off the road, (although I was allowed to drive straight home) !!!
I was issued with a fine and advisory note to undertake modifications within 14 days.(http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/images/icons/icon8.gif)
Can you guess why its illegal ?
Chris
Because of the mirror finish ? Have heard this before.
Shaun
Oh no - I hope it\'s not the chrome. Saw it in the flesh for the first time today and loved it. :Ladys-man
Bugger to take a photo of though! (apparently!:Giggle)
Wish I had a picy from Goodwood of the Chome finish Veyron to show you! one rule for one and not others eh?:2Rolleyes

Hi Chris
Real sorry to hear this after such a good weekend:cool.
Is the car to go to a MOT centre to get clearence also Clive has asked what is actually written on the ticket
That not good Chris & hope you get it all sorted out :yes
Okay, I\'ve let this run for a short while, thank you all for your concern.
I was actually stopped for having window tints !!, oh and my rear number plate has 3D lettering, oh and there are no red reflectors on the back of the car.
The front plate was also highlighted as illegal, but I accept that as it is small and swings up at speed (oops).
So, a fine, notice to carry out the above rectifications in 14 days and have verified by an independant MOT station.
Oh well, a few more nights in the garage.
Chris
That\'s a bit tough Chris!
At least the plates are easily sorted but the window tint is a bit of a shame!
Bugger!
Ok, so side glass tinted too dark? Dangerous.
No rear reflectors? Dangerous
Illegal number plates front and back. Check.
Front number plate folds up on the road. Asking for trouble.
What is your beef exactly, Traffic Police doing their job?

sorry to hear this chris the modded cars make it easy pray for the bobby,s. but its nothing you cannot sort out, it seems you all had a good day out and there\'s some good pictures by AMH and the weather held for you all !
With the tinted windows issue,
is not about time that tinted window specialists only allow you to tint to the right spec ? that way this would not arise again ??
Car looks cool btw :Giggle
Out of interest I believe the tint rules are set on percentage of light that passes through - how did the police check this? Is it some sort of device they carry like a breatherliser(sp) ?

It used to be, I believe that it\'s now illegal to have any tint at all in the front windows. Since an FD
only has front windows, the only one that can legally be tinted is the rear screen. May be wrong...
i\'ve asked several police officers about tinting front windows and none of them know the answer!
they called in their college and they didnt know either!
I asked a window tinter, he said ANY tint (except from the very light from the factory) is illegal on the drivers windows, and a sun strip below the line of the sun visors is illegal.
But he said more often than not, you can get away with the first or second tint...not sure of the light level, but have it on mine, and is still enough to see in/out with out any problem....so nothing like dark, or blacked out

I was notified an average of 75% of light has to pass through the window. To check this a meter is used.
Three readings are taken.
I was concerned as the windscreen was advised as illegal !
When I questioned this as it was a factory fitted screen the meter was produced and three readings taken, the screen passed without problem. Phew!
And for the record, I am a supporter of the Police and the service they provide to the public.
Just thought I would share my experience.
Ah, cool, that matches what I\'d read here: http://www.tintedwindows.co.uk/ which is quite a good site as it does give the legalities and have simulated tint examples too.
Bit sad they were going to write up the windscreen when it was factory! Did they tell you what percentage the factory screen let through after taking the reading?
Out of interest what are the legality of new headlights ? The number of times I\'m completely blinded in the FB is silly. Thought about an anti-glare tint but do they exist ?

Yes. The screen was 74.5 nearest the graduated bit at the top, 75.5 in passenger area, nearer the middle of the screen (down from the graduated area) and 76 in the centre of screen.
Hope this is of interest.
was it Northamptonshire police that stopped you?
Quote from: mpk490p;702961was it Northamptonshire police that stopped you?
No, south Yorkshire.
But let\'s not start posting anything about different districts.
As I alluded to before my intent with this post was not to have a pop at the Police, only to share my experience and if that can help another member then that\'s all I intended.
Sorry to hear of your issues but as Tony said nothing that should be to hard or clostly(expect maybe the tints) to sort. I got pulled a couple of years back for having a 3/4 front plate and got the same as you an advisory note and 14 days to put it right.
at least they didnt say anything about the paint/chrome
it does look great :Thumbsup!
