Title: exhausts..
Post by: slater1982 on July 03, 2010, 11:39:36 AM
Hi ppl,

Right, i\'m wanting to put aftermarket exhaust on the rex, and at the minute its completely standard. Reading through here, i know that with a decat pipe i\'ll fail an mot, although not really bothered cos i can change it back to the standard come mot time.
So firstly, is there any gain to be had from a decat pipe, or just go with a cat back system?
Secondly, will i need to play with the fuelling? And have heard somewhere in the distant past that a fuel cut defender?? is needed, is this the case or willl the standard ecu sort all this stuff out?
And also, what do you guys recommend regards which ones are the best?

Thanx in advance people

If you are planning on sticking with the standard ecu for now then fitting a decat pipe is a no-no really mate as its a major player in the destruction of our engines due the improved flow and the standard ecu not providing enough fuel causing it to run lean-det-dead.

If you are planning on an apexi powerFC or similar then mapped on your car then a decat is a must for performance gains. I gained over 80bhp from a 3" straight thro system on a conservative map from wgt.

Choice is yours but to make use of any mods and tbh to really just get your rex running better/faster/safer then a pfc is the way forward.

A 3" cat back on the standard ecu for me, actually zapped power as the ecu saw increased air flow and retarded the timing to save my engine but it took a dyno to see the effect the increased airflow was having.

For what it\'s worth, there\'s a better than evens chance you\'ll fail an MOT even WITH the cat on!!!

Just get it off and free up some power!!

Im running a full turboback decat system on my FC (please make sure you change the ECU if you are decatting) my CO% is 0.18....air pump ftw :D
