Title: Door Handle
Post by: PDale on June 10, 2010, 06:19:19 PM
Does anyone know whats involved removing the driver side exterior door handle?

I can open the door from the inside but not the outside. If you pull the exterior door handle you can tell there isn\'t any resistance. So I\'m guesing the cable has come off or snapped?

Easy fix or PITA?

Had to take mine off few months back cause key snapped in lock

As far as I can remember you pop off the plastic cover on the inside & there are 3 or 4 bolts to undo & it pops off

If the bar has just popped off you may be able to get it back on without taking it off completly

it\'s normally the little metal clip that holds the plastic handle onto the cable mechanism. once you get the door handle off you should see what\'s happened right away - undo four screws to take it apart, hook it back together and away you go!

Thanks for the replies. Well I undid the 2 bolts and popped it out from the door and had a look inside.

The two metal cables were attached to the metal bar that has a spring, so they looked ok. Am I right in thinking that the metal bar with a spring is supposed to be \'springing\' out all the time until you pull the door handle up, which tightens the spring up, allowing the cables to move and open the door?

Is it just the spring that is knackered and I need to replace the entire handle or am I missing the point somewhere?

Hi
you might find this helpful, if you can understand my garbled post!

it\'s usually a plastic part that fails in the mechanism

ok guys, finally had some time to have a proper look at it this afternoon.

Undid the 4 little screws inside and took metal pin out and wiggled the handle off. The metal bracket that attaches to the handle, one of the two metal lugs had bent back and wasn\'t securing itself against the handle.

I bent it back to a 90 degree angle with some pliers, put it all back together and now it works fine!

Thanks to everyone for the advice.
