Ok, so last week a friend wanted to have a go and see what rx7\'s are like to drive, gave him keys & tell him to bang £15 in as it was on the light to make sure it didnt run out.
15 mins later he comes back and the car is missing on idle intermittantly, the knock light is also coming on now on boost occasionally and when backing off the throttle. Asking what petrol he put in he tells me \'normal unleaded\' :Grrr, so thinking this might be something to do with it i go and fill the tank with super & hope this will sort the problem. It does seem to as the knock light now isnt coming on as much and the missfire has died down a lot 9 but not gone).
After a day or so of this still being present decide to change the plugs as they hadnt been replace in a while and may have also finally given up ( coincidence ?? ). A new set of ngk \'9\'s are ordered and fitted ( whilst fitting i notice previousley 10\'s had been fitted all round ?? ), take car out for a spin seems to be still slightly missing again and now when the second turbo comes online it feels like a fuel cut is coming in ( lots of pops & bangs from exhaust & doesnt want to pull higher up the rev range )
Whilst on idle car no longer sounds smooth and more of an american muscel car note .... any ideas ?? :3Confused
Car is 93 k import with knight sports twins, apexi filters & ecu. Was rebuilt in 2005 by reworx just before i purchased it and has done 10-12k since then with only occasional use at weekends untill this year when i had been using it almost daily.

did your friend redline it as i did that to mine last year and blew a tip
sounds like a tip to me also...

I think you\'ll find how good a friend he is in the coming months.
Sounds like a tip to me too :(
loss of spark at high revs i think caused it thats what happend to mine and im sure he done the same to yours and his probably telling you he drove it nice and slowly but im not a mechanic so you might wana get a expert to check it
you were very brave to let someone drive your car without you being in with them!!
ugh this isnt sounding good :(, is that possible with the internals being relatively fresh ?
freshness has nothing to do with it, the engine could have 10miles on it but if it gets det then it will die very quickly
Quote from: chris p;697460gave him keys
Can\'t believe anyone would just hand over their keys like that.

definetly......
so im guessing compresson testing is the next step ?
francovel was it just the tip u blew or did it cause major damage ( ill be no doubt pulling it out and seeing if i can replace it myself)
yeah he has driven lots of other high performace cars before ( hes 37) guess it was just an unlucky decision by me :(
there seems to be more and more fd\'s coming out in the NE that i have never seen before.
do you have a boost gauge fitted?? check to see if its fluctuating around on idle.
another thing is not to let the fuel light come on, the tank isnt the best design and the fuel sloshes around picking up air. will be ok if driving steady.

yea mine was fduked my revs were everywere it always wanted to cut of but i wanted a rebuild anyway, age dont matter my friend ive had so many of my friends say to me when im driving \' take it to 9000rpm and im like no then they say but the rx8 can and im like this aint a rx8 though\' so i think when people test drive a rx7 they redline the sh£t out of them and drive them badly cause they think they can. but i think rx7s are like hot women anyway as they always suck your money just like mine as ive just found out my altenator went this morning, i need new brakes bla bla bla list goes on
like i said get someone that knows what there doing and have them check your car out as i and the others could be wrong, good luck with what ever happends...

yeah ive had mine for 5 years now i just rarely used it untill last year when it became a daily drive, yes it has the defi boost oil & oil temp gauges fitted and the boost one is now very jittery (cant really think of a better word to describe it ) where it used to be very smooth. Had a word with carl at haywards yesterday and he also is 90% sure its shot a tip. Not sure what to do now tbh .....
yeh, sorry to say but its sounds like its broken a tip.
